Three Videos Explain US and China Consulate Closings (Updated)

Three good videos to help you understand the recent forced closing of China's consulate in Houston. In retaliation, China ordered the U.S. consulate closed in Chengdu.

Update, July 27: China takes over closed U.S. Consulate in Chengdu days after ordering it shut, as relations continue to plummet - CBS News. "China maintains consulates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York along with its embassy in Washington. The U.S. has four other consulates in China and an embassy in Beijing, keeping the sides in parity in terms of diplomatic missions."

A Look At The Closed Chinese Consulate In Houston (Plus Goofy Protesters)

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, the Trump Administration ordered the General Consulate of China in Houston to be vacated. Smoke was seen that afternoon as consulate workers burned documents in their courtyard. I went to the consulate to see what was happening on July 23. (See video below.)

A small group of anti-American protesters showed up.
Photo: Chicago News Bench
As I was about to leave, a small group of communists arrived. They were demanding that the consulate be allowed to stay open. Which is, if you think about it, a futile and stupid demand to make.

Why? Trump isn't going to see them and say, "Hey, well, if they're demanding it then I better call President Xi and tell him to keep it open."

And Xi isn't going to see the protesters and suddenly decide to defy the U.S. by not closing the consulate, which would risk the defiant occupants-turned-squatters being arrested by federal agents. The arrogant ignorance of these protesters is truly fantastical.

Watch Party Host Guide for Obama's Speech to Congress

Good Lord, not only do liberals want the government to run their health care, and just about every other aspect of their lives, they even need instructions on how to host a simple television viewing party. Organizing for America (OFA), the unofficial perpetual propaganda machine for Barack Obama, has issued the instructions for people who are hosting "Watch Parties" for the big speech to both houses of Congress tonight (7:00 p.m. CDT). It is truly laughable. Think about it: You want to watch an event on TV. You want to have some friends and fellow zombies over to watch it with you. Simple, right? Not if you're a liberal, apparently, bent on forcing socialized health care on your neighbors. Apparently, turning on the television, putting out a bowl of chips and then discussing the event is so complicated for liberals that OFA felt the need to issue its "Watch Party Host Guide." (Available as PDF here.) The Guide starts with this: THANK YOU FOR SIGNING UP TO HOST A PRESIDENTIAL HEALTH CARE ADDRESS WATCH PARTY. Hosting a watch party is simple and easy. But it’s a great way to be part of history and build our movement for change. After the President’s speech, join Organizing for America members and former Obama for America campaign manager David Plouffe for a special conversation on the next steps in this fight. Below are some tips that will help make your event a success: There are tips for before, during and after the speech. As you read this, imagine how stupid someone would have to be to actually need these "tips," especially tips #1, #4 and #5. Here are the "before" tips: 1. CHOOSE A LOCATION: This can be your living room, a community center, or anywhere people can gather and watch TV -- ideally with a speakerphone that you can use for the conference call after the speech. 2. REGISTER YOUR EVENT ON MY.BARACKOBAMA.COM: If you haven’t already, go to MY.BARACKOBAMA.COM/HostSept9 and enter your zip code to register your event. 3. REGISTER FOR THE POST-SPEECH CONFERENCE CALL with David Plouffe by entering your phone number at MY.BARACKOBAMA.COM/CallRSVP. Please register by 10 p.m. EST Tuesday night to ensure you reserve space on the call. 4. INVITE FRIENDS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO JOIN YOU: This watch party is a great opportunity to reach out to anyone you know who has questions about the President’s plans for reform. 5. SET UP YOUR SPACE: Make sure you have enough places for people to sit. Refreshments are not required, but some snacks and drinks are a nice plus. Here are the "during" tips. 1. WELCOME your guests and ask them to sign in using the sign-in sheet on the next page. 2. ASK EVERYONE TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES and invite them to share why health insurance reform is important to them. 3. WATCH the President’s address. The speech is scheduled to begin at 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time, but check your local TV listings for time and channel. 4. JOIN THE ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA CONFERENCE CALL: Shortly after the President finishes speaking, the Organizing for America conference call will begin. If you have registered for the conference call, be ready quickly! There is no number for you to dial; we’ll call you when the conference is starting. If your phone has a speakerphone feature, turn it on so your guests can listen in as well. 5. DISCUSS: After the call, ask guests to share their thoughts and reflections on the President’s address. Based on what you learned on the conference call, share ideas and discuss next steps in your community. These people need to be told to "welcome" their guests? They need to be told to introduce their guests to each other? They need to be told to "watch the President's address?" (Isn't that the primary purpose of the "watch" party?) They need to be told to "discuss" the speech? There is only one "after" tip: LET US KNOW HOW IT WENT: Within 24 hours of the conclusion of your event, please go to MY.BARACKOBAMA.COM/WatchPartyFeedback to enter the information from your sign-in sheet and let us know how your watch party went. Your feedback is crucial to helping us build and improve. OFA's Watch Party Host Guide is woefully incomplete. There are no "tips" for sharing the dope. Pipe? Hooka? Rolled? Can alcohol be served in addition to the drugs that many parties will feature? Nothing about vacuuming the carpet after the party. No advice about opening and closing the door to let guests in and out. It might be chilly in some parts of the country tonight, yet OFA gave no tip about putting on a sweater. OFA tells party hosts to introduce guests to each other, but says nothing about showing them were the toilet is. For those who will drive to a watch party, there are no instructions for getting into their car, starting the engine, pulling into traffic, then parking at the event. I predict disaster for many of the watch parties, and I blame it on the dangerously incomplete instructions from OFA. Watching Obama's Health Care Watch Parties, Sept. 9

"President Obama is delivering a major address on health insurance reform to a special joint session of Congress," writes Jeremy Bird, Deputy Director of Organizing for America (OFA).

We all knew that already, of course, but Jeremy does tell us something we didn't know: OFA is astroturfing big time to get a bigger television audience for Obama's speech on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m. (CDT)

In a mass email, OFA said it has "organized special watch parties that night for all Organizing for America supporters, their friends, neighbors, and families -- and a local volunteer has decided to host one in your area." The email that I received has a time stamp of Sept. 8, 9:27 p.m. (CDT).

OFA even provides a "Watch Party Host Guide," (available as PDF) which makes for some very funny reading. It could have been given the title "Basics of Hosting a Party for Idiots."

OFA's Host Guide offers sophisticated advice such as "SET UP YOUR SPACE: Make sure you have enough places for people to sit. Refreshments are not required, but some snacks and drinks are a nice plus." If you haven't learned this aspect of throwing a party by the time you're finished with your freshmen year of college, then you have no business throwing a party.

More great advice: "WATCH the President’s address. The speech is scheduled to begin at 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time, but check your local TV listings for time and channel." Uh huh. The whole purpose of these "watch parties" is to watch the frikking address, yet OFA somehow felt it was necessary to include that in its instructions.

OFA's top dude is David Plouffe, formerly Obama's campaign manager and currently - in effect - still his campaign manager and perpetual propaganda perpetrator. Make no mistake about it: Obama's presidential campaign did not end when he won last November. Without skipping a beat, and with Plouffe's help, the campaign instantaneously switched its goal from winning in 2008 to a never ending, omnipresent campaign to win in 2012. Most politicians at least pretend to stop campaigning during the first half of a term in office. Not Obama, who won't be content with a full house in Congress listening to him. He wants ratings. He wants big ratings, in no small part because he is desperate to sway public opinion. So far, his only swaying has been negative

After Obama's speech, notes Jeremy Bird, "everyone at these parties will be able to take part in an important conference call with former Obama for America campaign manager David Plouffe about the work we'll still need to do to help pass real reform this year."

Translation: Stand by for marching orders. And who am I to stand in the way? Let's help OFA spread the word, shall we? You can find a watch party near you anywhere in the country by clicking over to the OFA web site at http://my.barackobama.com/WatchParties? Obama's School Speech and the Cult of Personality

Watch recorded video of the Obama School Speech HERE (below). I watched Barack Obama's speech to school kids today. It was bland. It was boring. After much public outcry, the part where he was to ask kids to help him was removed. The final version was pretty tame, and the outcry was, well, somewhat overblown. However, I had at least four problems with the speech: Problem #1: Rock Star Intro The speech opened with Sec. of Education Arne Duncan introducing some kid who then introduced Obama. The problem with that is the rock star nature of the presentation. Rather than give the boring, bland speech from his desk, the White House felt it necessary to have a rousing introduction with a roomful of vetted friendlies giving him a rousing ovation. Now, that's clever politics. It is also inappropriate to the stated intention of the speech. Problem #2: Cult of Personality The White House knew exactly what they were doing when they set up Obama's rock star reception. The subliminal message to the kids - especially those who will be old enough to vote in 2012, is simple: Barack Obama is your Great Father. Der Uber Fater. Your Hero. Your Great Leader. A pop icon. Why else would the White House have not done the traditional address from the quiet Oval Office? Problem #3: Overblown Production Obama presented a very tame motivational speech kids, which could more easily (and less expensively) have been done from the Oval Office in the White House. Instead, Obama had to travel to Wakefield High School in nearby Arlington, Virginia. That required the usual heavy Secret Service details, a lot of security advance work, setting up a remote video production operation, local police work, and streets tied up for the motorcade. All that bother and expense to tell kids what kids should be told by their teachers and parents every day. Problem #4: The Entire Speech Was Hypocritical Actually, this is not a problem, per se. It does, however, show us the hypocrisy of Obama and of the Democrat Party. In his speech, Obama repeatedly told school kids to be responsible, to work hard, to never give up, to be self-reliant. Nice words, which I agree with, but none of those values are encouraged by the Obama or the Democrats in deed. Ever since the New Deal of President Franklin Roosevelt, Americans have been told more and more that they are entitled to government care and coddling. Many of the kids who watched the speech today were born into an entitlement subculture, created and nurtured by the Democrats, that conditions them to expect free government cheese every day of their lives. I had to chuckle many times as the most radical Leftist ever to sit in the Oval Office presented a very conservative message of self-reliance and hard work, and he did it with a straight face. Peraica Takes off the Gloves (Video, Part 2)

Part 2 of my six-part series, "A Conversation With Tony Peraica." On May 29, I interviewed Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica in his law office on Chicago's south side. The result was 63 minutes' worth of incredible video. In Part 1, he shared family stories, memories of his youth, and more. This installment, Part 2, is very different from the first. Here, Peraica takes the gloves off when speaking about fellow Cook County commissioners and other politicians and calls the Democrat nomination of Todd Stroger "fixed." He describes fellow commissioners Forrest Claypool and Larry Suffredin as hypocrites. Oh, there's more, and you can see the full video below. (See all six videos in the series.) Hiptics Predicts Trouble for Democrats

Less than 100 days into his first term as president, people are already asking if Obama might be just a one-termer. People - Democrats and Republicans alike - are upset with Obama for a list of reasons. Hiptics.com ("where hip-hop meets politics") has an interesting take on this, written by Hiptics' top dog Chris Franco ("Cfro"): Things I learned Tuesday night from President Obama’s press conference: Obama and congressional Democrats are angry that greedy Wall Street executives took $165 million in bonuses that the president and congressional Democrats gave them. We have made them give it back, but they have to keep the trillion-dollar bailout. Apparently, our education system is worse than we thought. Neither the president nor Democrats in Congress actually read the bailout-bonus bill. Granted, the next presidential election is still a long way off, so Obama can coast a while longer. Hiptics reminds us that "Obama isn’t on the ballot next year, but Democrats in Congress are. You can make money betting they will lose more than 25 seats, but not as much money as by purchasing toxic assets with taxpayer dollars." Cfro forecasts doom and gloom, both for the Democrats and caused by Democrats: Next year, when this experiment in European-style socialism isn’t working, the Democrats up for re-election will panic and make the spending this year look like an appetizer. To appear responsible, they then will raise taxes on “upper-income taxpayers” to the stratosphere, paralyzing investment and the economy. In other words, Hiptics is hip to the reality of economics. You tax the wealthy business owners and they just pass the cost on to their less-than-wealthy customers. In other words, higher taxes is the evil side of trickle down economics. Just ask David Manning, who breaks it down in plain language in a video he presented recently. I like that a site such as Hiptics has combined excellent entertainment industry coverage with sharp political insights. They are presenting reasoned political insight to an audience that might otherwise ignore it. The entertainment stuff, while very well done, is almost like bait to lure young readers to their site, where they are then presented with other interesting things to read. For me, the political writing at Hiptics lured me in, and I've been exploring the world of hip-hop through them. That bait worked. I'm hooked. Burris Update - Still Stubborn

Embattled Roland Burris, junior U.S. Senator from Illinois, just won't quit. Tomorrow he goes back to Washington, where he will probably be scolded and questioned by Illinois' senior U.S. Senator, Dick Durbin. Despite loud calls to resign from fellow Democrats, fellow Senators, U.S. Representatives, newspaper editors and others, he's hanging in. The Blagojevich-appointed senator, whose word can no longer be trusted, is the subject of this video from Fox. CNB RSS Feed

Blago Spoof: Grand Theft Illinos

A friend of mine, who shall remain unnamed, sent me this bit of political spoofery. It already had everything in it, including the clever text, but I couldn't resist inserting Blagojevich's face. With apologies to the makers of "Grand Theft Auto," I also touched up the color a bit and enhanced all the lights on the pursuing police car. Private kudos to my unnamed friend for a fine bit of artistic commentary. Click image to make it embiggered. Subscribe to Chicago News Bench

MUST READ: Is Fitzgerald Going Easy on Obama?

A must-read post by Christopher J. Adamo hints that Obama is being given more slack than he deserves. The giver of slack: Federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. With a speed vastly exceeding even Armitage’s confession of guilt, Fitzgerald has, without any two-year investigation of Blagojevich’s every acquaintance going back to kindergarten, already pronounced Obama entirely innocent and clear of any suspicion. The ugly picture painted by this affair reveals the decline and likely extinction of “old justice” in which right and wrong played the supreme role, as compared to its “new law” substitute, in which the legal system has become the ultimate tool by which the state manages the people. Covering For Obama

An excellent post at Chicago Bungalow, titled "Media Reinvention of Ayers, Obama's Chicago Connections," gives good analysis of the way in which most of the Big Media cover up, twist and alter the facts about Barack Obama's past. The old media," writes CB, "has done its best for some time now to 'educate' us on the nature of Obama's Chicago connections. The list is growing." "Educate," as in - you know - re-education camps.

Anti-Schakowsky Sentiment a Sign of the Times

Follow along, Screwed-Americans. Here in Northern Illinois, there is justified anger toward Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, who voted for the bailout earlier this week. Members of Congress face the wrath of the people, Left and Right, Democrat and Republican, for selling us out. Once again, the taxpayers are screwed. Below, we see an email chain that was sent out to a group this week, beginning on Wednesday and going through this morning. I know that the people involved are liberal Democrats (I've removed their names to protect their privacy). This bodes ill for Schakowsky, a nominally liberal Democrat herself, and for all other Representatives and Senators, Democrats and Republicans, who felt that the taxpayers should pay for the grotesque errors and greed of Wall Street... and of the criminal negligence for more than 13 years by both houses of Congress. Re: Jan Schakowsky voted for the bailout On 10/1/08 8:27 AM, "Xxx Xxxxxxx" wrote: I will never vote for her nor work for her again Vote in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll http://www.usalone.com/blogvoices.php?Cheney%20Impeachment%3F ---------------------------------------------- BENCH NOTE: I have to note the sadly funny, pitifully knee-jerk inclusion of the "Cheney Impeachment Poll" by one of the emailers. I mean, for God's sake, Cheney will only be in office for a few more months. These emailers are bitching about Cong. Schakowsky selling them out. Why isn't there a National Schakowsky Impeachment Poll? Or a National Barney Frank Impeachment Poll, a National Harry Reid Impeachment Poll, and so on??? Who am I voting for? Cynthia McKinney (Green Party; if they get 5 percent of the vote nationwide I don't think my vote would matter for Obama) the Green Party will become an established party with a place on the national ballot. Surely they deserve as much a place as the Socialist Labor Party and the Socialist Workers Party! And her issues are right on; I've heard her on the radio. ---------------------------------------------- BENCH NOTE: Whoa! Gotta interject again! These people are bitching about Schakowsky selling them out but apparently do not understand the situation. If they did, they would not be calling for people to vote for the Socialists or the equally socialist Greens. Good Lord, do they not understand that one of the major causes of the current economic crisis is the socialist demands on the banks to loan billions to the subprime market? Sure, get Obama in there, uh huh. Are these people completely ignorant of the facts? Obama took over $120,000 in donations from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae! Names like Johnson, Gorelick and Raines figure prominently in the scandals - and in Obama's campaign. As Investors Business Daily wrote on Sept. 22, "Though some key Republicans deserve blame as well, it was a concerted Democratic effort that made reform of Fannie and Freddie impossible. The reason for this is simple: Fannie and Freddie became massive providers both of reliable votes among grateful low-income homeowners, and of massive giving to the Democratic Party by grateful investment bankers, both at the two government-sponsored enterprises and on Wall Street." ---------------------------------------------- Friday, October 3, 2008 9:09 AM From: Xxxx Xxxxx To: [email group] On its merits, the Bail-Out plan is a bad bill, no question. Some government action is surely called for, but this is wrong-headed and still basically a give-away to rich speculators. That said, the House progressive caucus split on the vote and had previously sent a letter to Pelosi, with Schakowsky signing on, calling for the bail-out to be paid for by the speculators that caused the mess, as well as measures to help foreclosures and a rescue of 'Main Street'. Those positives were not in the House bill, nor the Senate version expected to pass the House today, due to strong-arm and scare tactics. So ... Wall Street will get its bail-out, as expected. That will not stem the tide of foreclosures or lay-offs or the health care crisis or the many other "main street" needs that were apparently 'too small' to fix. It's time for a series of peoples assemblies to develop what a "Peoples Bail-Out" would look like. We can insist that such a package be brought up in the lame duck session, after Nov. 4, or in the first 100 days of the Obama administration ---------------------------------------------- BENCH NOTE: What we really need is the FBI to arrest half of the members of Congress. Obama the Blockwart

Some good. Some bad. Not all "community organizers" work for the general good. Hitler, for example, was a Blockwart (German for "block warden," or "community organizer"). Hitler later used other Blockwarten to perpetuate his evil. It cannot be denied that the Nazis organized a community. Today a community, tomorrow the world, perhaps. Hitler's oratorial skills and organizing abilities helped him to take advantage of social and economic unrest, just as many (not all) "community organizers" do today. Other examples of people who organized communities in history: Gangster Disciples ("GDs") - Chicago based gang, estimated by FBI to rake in around $100 Million per year in nationwide narcotics sales. According to knowgangs.com, the GDs have tried more than once to legitimize their image by becoming, yep, community organizers: "In the 1990s the Gangster Disciples entered into politics through the formation of the 'Growth and Development' movement. Gangster Disciples began blanketing the city of Chicago attempting to register voters from the inner city. They then 'encouraged' the newly registered voters to vote for candidates loyal to their cause. While incarcerated, the Black Gangster Disciples will unite with allied gangs under the guise of the Brothers of Struggle (BOS). The gang continues to be involved in large scale drug trafficking, murders and white-collar crime." [Source] Benito Mussolini - Mussolini's skills as an orator and organizer helped him to take advantage of social and economic unrest. Gengis Khan - Organized his community in Mongolia, got on their horses, and went forth to reorganize, rape and pillage other communities. Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, the Black Panthers - Worked for civil rights but believed in doing so violently. They rejected Martin Luther King's nonviolence credo and worked for equality in education, housing, employment and civil rights - by preaching hate for and violence toward white people. Sadly, the Panthers also used murderous violence and larceny on their own community. (See: Ah, those Black Panthers! How Beautiful! by Sol Stern) Ku Klux Klan - Leaders of the racist KKK were always organizing, or attempting to organize, their communities. Some were successful, others not. There are tens of thousands more examples, good and bad. I highlighted a few bad ones here just to illustrate that the term "community organizer" is meaningless if it is not put into context. Emil Jones: Good Riddance to Bad Trash

Former sewer inspector Emil Jones has announced his intention to retire from the Illinois State Legislature. For many of us, Jones can't leave too soon. John Ruberry writes that "Jones' retirement is not immediate. He will remain on the November ballot, so he can hand-pick his successor. And if Jones follows tradition, he'll probably pick a relative." John, of Marthon Pundit, was right-on, and indeed updated his post later today with this: "Surprise, surprise. Jones wants some guy named Emil Jones III to succeed him. You can't make this stuff up." MEANWHILE, a revealing and must-read post on Daily Kos indicates that Jones pal Barack Obama might give him a plum position in Washington if Obama continues to fool enough voters: My own encounters with Emil this year center around Obama's presidential campaign. We were in the same office in both Iowa and Wisconsin, and while I think he traveled with different aides to the two states, it was amazing how they (Emil's aides) pushed the same lines. The one that was the most memorable (and startling, given what I know about Barack) was that, when asked what job Emil would get in an Obama Administration, the answer was always the same: "Anything He Wants." Headline of the day: "Go GOP Go!!! Drill, Drill" at Backyard Conservative. BC's Anne Leary links up to stories about the struggle to get dictator Nancy Pelosi to allow a Congressional vote on the question of drilling for oil domestically. Great links and quotes to be found there. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease,” Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) told the crowd. “It is time for you all to squeak.”

Obama: The Company He Keeps

Judging a book by its cover is not a good idea. Judging a man by the company he keeps, on the other hand, can give great insight into the man's character. Barack Obama hangs with some real scum bags, as Marathon Pundit points out: Obama has some new friends on Barackbook, including a man frequently blogged about here, Illinois State Senate President Emil Jones. Former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson, who had to step down from the Obama vice presidential vetting panel, has signed up, as has Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi. He's a Barackbook friend of Bill Ayers. No doubt Tony Rezko would have signed up by now if he hadn't been inconvenienced by a federal court recently.

Rogers Park, the Mayberry of Chicago

About a year ago, the Sun-Times ran a story with a ridiculous headline that proclaimed Rogers Park to be the "Venice Beach of Chicago."

Wrong, way off.

Rogers Park is the Mayberry of Chicago. It is a backwater neighborhood, avoided or ignored by most of the rest of Chicago, especially the local mainstream media. A small-town mentality keeps Rogers Park and its "leaders" in a not-ready-for-prime-time state of mind. ("Oh!" you scream at your computer screen, "how can that be?!?!")

Politicians who understand the game of politics public life realize that harsh criticism is just part of the terrain they choose to inhabit. Here in Chicago's 49th Ward, however, we have petty amateurs such as Jim Ginderske, an unlicensed electrician who is busy muscling committee chair positions away from other self-proclaimed, unelected "community leaders."

Imagine Mayberry's Howard Sprague with Machiavellian fantasies, and you get Jim Ginderske. He recently exposed himself in a July 2nd interview with the News-Star newspaper. He was asked about a community group and their involvement with the currently controversial attempt to install a Boys and Girls Club in the soon-to-be-opened Gale Community Center (emphasis added):

"I would have invited them, but I didn't think they were interested in representing the community," Ginderske told the News-Star, "They've taken every opportunity to be as critical of the alderman as they can. That's OK during an election season, but when the election is over it's time to work together and they've made it clear that they don't want to work with anybody."

In other words, "I'm in charge. Shut up and do as you're told." Ginderske believes that between election cycles we should all just shut up and follow orders. This, then, is the small-town mentality I referred to. Moore allows this in part because it is expedient and in part because he is deeply in debt to Ginderske politically. But, imagine a senator or the mayor of a large city saying that criticism between election cycles is not acceptable.

Meanwhile, the mean-sprited "mayor of Rogers Park," 49th Ward Alderprince Joe Moore, hides from the mainstream press as much as possible. He prefers the comfortable environs of the hacks who frequently pretend to interview him on local cable access shows. Moore is still not used to the Internet, much less the no-longer-new phenomenon of web logs ("blogs").

Even most of the so-called "artists" here are back water hacks. Oh, I'll earn the wrath of a lot of hacks with this, yes. But it's sadly true. Somehow, by some grand mistake, Rogers Park has gotten a reputation as an "artist community." There are some good, productive artists here, to be sure, but not enough for the neighborhood to have a rep as some kind of artist colony. (I produce more visual art in one week than most of the "artists" in Rogers Park produce in half a year. No brag, just fact.)

Moore's office staff frequently blame local bloggers for problems in the neighborhood, even though we simply point out the problems. One example: Anne Sullivan, a Moore staffer, recently told a group of people that bloggers blew a police investigation. This came as a surprise to 24th District Police Commander Caluris. It came as a surprise to the bloggers, too, who had no idea what she was talking about.

We'll continue to examine the small-town, back water, insular, not-ready-for-prime-time atmosphere of Rogers Park in the coming months.

Savagery in Africa

Residents of Chicago's 49th Ward know political corruption and horror. But not even Alderman Joe Moore is as bad as Robert Mugabe, strongman of Zimbabwe. This African nation has been a hellhole for decades. It is a basketcase nation on a basketcase continent. The Economist writes today that "Zimbabwe needs its neighbours to help rescue its people from hell." One can only hope that the Zimbabweans don't hold their breath. African nations are not know for helping their neighbors. SINCE Robert Mugabe lost the first round of a presidential election at the end of March to Morgan Tsvangirai, he has stopped at nothing to steal the second round on June 27th.... Several million famished Zimbabweans depend on foreign aid to keep them alive, yet he has banned most foreign agencies from operating around the country, partly to prevent them witnessing the horrors he is inflicting on those he suspects of disloyalty, and partly to use food to coerce people into voting for him. Juicy: Obama's Overpaid Fat Cat Advisor

Hypocrite Oback Barama has tapped yet another wealthy fat cat as a high ranking advisor to his campaign. James Johnson will assist in the the search for a Veep candidate to run alongside of the junior senator from Illinois. In another startling example of poor character judgment (Rezko, Wright, Pfleger, etc.), His Holiness Oback Barama has chosen a man of questionable character. NOTE: You will be hearing a LOT about this in the days and weeks to come. Juicy bits from the L.A. Times: Two degrees of separation: The Wall Street Journal reports that a very special friend of Sen. Barack Obama is also a very special friend of embattled Countrywide Financial co-founder Angelo Mozilo. And: About James Johnson: He's part of the permanent government of this country, a long-time Democratic fixer (Mondale and Kerry campaigns), former CEO of Fannie Mae, and as such a big buyer of Countrywide loans. He's a guy who sits on a bunch of corporate boards, etc. And this: Outrage: "That reeks most high," said Bonnie Russell, a public relations specialist and vocal critic of Mr. Mozilo, according to the Sun. "Where's the 'change to believe in' if they're playing the same old game using the same old players?" More juicy bits: The American Thinker asks, "Why does Barack Obama have trouble finding untainted members for his three person panel vetting vice presidential candidates?" Good question... Still more juice:
