In Debate, Mandela Barnes Dismissed Union Members in 49 Other States (Analyzing the Lie)

I couldn't let this go without comment. In last night's election debate (October 13, 2022) between U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R) and challenger Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes (D), Barnes began his opening statement with a lie.

"My story is a Wisconsin story, only possible here, being raised in a union household."  (Emphasis mine; video below.)

Mandela Barnes: "Only in Wisconsin"

WAIT, WHAT? Let's get this straight. NOWHERE ELSE in America, but "ONLY IN WISCONSIN," can someone be raised in a union household? Really? Is it possible that there are no "union households" in other states? Well, no, it's not.

Barnes's lie might seem like an innocent exaggeration. But it's not, really. It shows a willingness on his part to distort the truth, to fabricate his own version of reality, and to knowingly mislead voters. Perhaps the most disturbing thing about it is that some Wisconsin voters heard that lie, raised their clenched their fists in the air over their couches, and screamed, "Yeah, man, only in Wisconsin!"

According to a January 2022 report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

"In 2021, the number of men who were union members, at 7.5 million, changed little, while the number of women who were union members declined by 182,000 to 6.5 million. The unionization rate for men decreased by 0.4 percentage point over the year to 10.6 percent."

Crowd laughs as Chicago Teachers Union president talks about killing the rich

Jan. 9, 2013 - Karen Lewis, president of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU), thinks killing rich people is funny. So funny, in fact, that she recently joked about the prospect of union members killing the wealthy.

Karen Lewis, CTU Prez
(Chicago Magazine)
Her audience, a bunch of like-minded socialists, thought it was funny too. And why not?
A good class warfare joke about murdering the rich is always welcome at these kinds of gatherings, nyet? Da!

Lewis delivered her speech to the Illinois Labor History Society “Salute to Labor’s Historic Heroes from the History Makers of Today,” on Dec. 2, 2013. It attracted attention this week after video of the event surfaced online, says the Daily Caller. "Lewis earned scattered applause from her audience by noting that, approximately 100 years ago, pro-union activists were ready to murder their rich bosses."

Lewis did not disappoint the crowd of class warriors. "She threw gasoline onto the fire of class warfare," notes EAG News, "and even mentioned mob killings of wealthy Americans." EAG quoted Lewis:

“… Do not think for a minute that the wealthy are ever going to allow you to legislate their riches away from them. Please understand that. However, we are in a moment where the wealth disparity in this country is very reminiscent of the robber baron ages. The labor leaders of that time, though, were ready to kill. They were. They were just – off with their heads. They were seriously talking about that.” Some in the audience laughed and clapped at her remark. She was just joking, the Liberal apologists on the Left will say. Uh huh, joking about murder.

"He who jokes confesses," says an old Italian proverb.
Lewis's joke about killing the wealthy strikes a chord deep within the hearts of her supporters. Deep down, some of them actually do want to kill the wealthy. A lot of people who support unions really want to kill the rich.

And you can bet your rear end that there are plenty of CTU members who would actually kill the wealthy if ordered to. Of course, they would not kill the wealthy union bosses like Karen Lewis, who pulls down Big Bucks as CTU's pampered president.

Stalin Kill The Rich
Is this Karen Lewis's
spirit animal?
Lewis became CTU's president in June of 2010. "The previous CTU president pulled down nearly $300,000 a year in base salary and compensation," reported TownHall last year. "Local union watchdogs reported that top CTU officers and staff with six-figure salaries and bonuses also received:"

In addition, top CTU officials received "... a monthly expense account for each administrator -- officers, coordinators and field representatives -- of $1,500; a car allowance of $7,000 per year (whether or not you have a car); 85 percent of car insurance and expenses paid; parking allowance; cellphone allowance; life insurance paid with union dues; and among other perks, a 53rd week of yearly pay for "working" over the Christmas holiday."

The TownHall report also said, "records show that [Lewis] made more than $71,000 for half a year's work in 2010 -- along with compensation from the Illinois Federation of Teachers in 2011 totaling at least an additional $64,000 on top of her unknown base salary and benefits."

Hope. Change. Murder.
EAG asks, "Big salaries with an average income in the $70,000 range. Generous benefits and pensions. Limited work days and nine-month work years. What are these people complaining about?"

Union leaders like Karen Lewis really don't give a damn about the quality of the education your kids are getting in the public schools. All of their agitation and protesting and striking is not "for the children." It's for them, it's for power, it's a means of advancing their socialist power agenda. Well, and a touch of personal greed for all the goodies they can soak the taxpayers for, too.

Lewis's fat salary is probably just barely enough to support her obvious gluttony. A raise might be in order for her, if only to protect the lives of others. After all, if she runs out of food she is likely to eat some of her fellow rich folk.

Updated: Union Thug Who Attacked Steven Crowder Was Looking For a Fight, Stalked Him In Crowd

Union Thug Tony Cummings Attacking Steven Crowder
Dec. 11, 2012 - VIDEOS BELOW - Violent union members in Lansing, Michigan attacked Right-To-Work advocates on the grounds of Michigan's state capitol today after the state legislature passed a right-to-work bill(Videos below.)

A large mob of union members and sympathizers were in a violent frenzy as they surrounded a large tent set up and occupied by Americans For Prosperity (AFP), along with conservative humorist and pundit Steven Crowder. Leftist louts forced their way into the tent, dismantling it and threatening those inside.

Union Thug Tony Cummings Attacking Steven Crowder
With no regard for AFP's free speech rights or personal safety, the union gangsters shouted obscenities and, ultimately, physically attacked. Some milled around in a zombie-like daze, passively watching their union brethren violate the civil rights of fellow Americans. Not satisfied with simply bringing the tent down, union thugs destroyed the tent by cutting it to shreds with what appeared to be large box cutters.

The first video below is "AFP MI Tent comes down at Right To Work Rally," and it shows the zombie-like crowd of union thugs attacking the tent, spewing obscenities and just itching for a fight. Some lunge at the AFP members, while others attack the tent.

The second video, "Steven Crowder's attacker VERBALLY attacks him a hour earlier," shows Crowder being verbally assaulted by union punk Tony Cummings, without provocation, who physically attacked Crowder about an hour later (see the third video below). It is obvious from watching the second video that Cummings was looking for a fight. It was so obvious, in fact, that a union-appointed security "marshall" (in an orange vest) intervened and told Cummings to back off. That just seemed to further upset Cummings. At 3:03 in the video, Cummings lowered  his IBEW sign so that it would interfere with a photo opportunity of some guy posing with a smiling Crowder. When Crowder turned to ask Cummings to stop doing that, Cummings grinned weirdly and said, "Don't f-ck with me."

The third video below, "Unions Assault On Camera," clearly shows the assault on Crowder by a union goon that we think is named Tony Cummings. At least, that's what his jacket said. Also on his jacket was an IBEW union patch. Gateway Pundit wrote that Local 876 is located in Grand Rapids, MI but Chicago News Bench took a moment to look it up and found that the 1,480-member IBEW Local 876 is actually located in Edmore, MI, about an hour from Grand Rapids [see map].

"The protesters shouted 'scab' and 'Walmart tent' as they advanced," Lee Stranahan wrote at Breitbart.com. "The tent had been used by AFP to house members who were reportedly threatened at last week’s demonstration," he added.

“This is what democracy looks like,” they chanted as they destroyed the tent.

Union thugs and the progressives who support them think "democracy" is the act of violent suppression of  the opposition and destroying their property, even going so far as to physically assault people.

You can see Crowder being punched in the second video. "Crowder," reports Breitbart.com, "peacefully confronted union protesters today in Lansing, Michigan when the mob turned violent. Crowder was punched multiple times and, at one point, when his back was turned to the crowd as he was leaving a confrontation, he was pulled by the collar of his coat back into the mob to be assaulted again." That can also be seen in the video. "Union appointed 'Marshals' (not actual law enforcement) would break up the assaults but never asked the union members to leave the protest for their behavior."

It is not known where the "real" law enforcement was taking their union-mandated coffee break, but none are visible in these videos. Crowder's assailant, Tony Cummings, was apparently not apprehended and remains at large. It was truly a sad day for America, as Obama-supported violent thugs had a violent hissy fit because, suddenly, their fellow Michiganders can no longer be forced to join a union in order to have a job.

Right-To-Work Law Passes In Michigan, Violence Simmers

union thugs
"Hey hey, ho ho! Your right to work has got to go!"
Dec. 11, 2011 - The Republican-led Michigan House chamber today approved the first of two right-to-work bills that address public-sector unions by a vote of 58-51. As many as 10,000 pro-union, anti-choice activists protested outside the capitol building in Lansing by waving signs, shouting vulgar slogans, and using violence against those who support the right-to-work legislation.

There was some violence-tinged rhetoric from Democrat legislators inside the House chamber. Just before the vote was taken, “There will be blood,” said Representative Douglas Geiss, a Democrat from Taylor, reports Bloomberg News. Geiss made that disturbing remark during the pre-vote debate. After the vote, a 55-year-old UAW member protesting outside said that the right-to-work law will "create civil war."

Police had to control angry union thugs who became violent, Bloomberg News says. "Supporters and opponents clashed, with protesters tearing down a tent set up by Americans for Prosperity, overturning tables and stamping on signs. Police on foot and horseback charged through the crowd pushing them back with batons."

A second bill that deals with private sector unions still needs to be acted upon. The Senate approved both last week. "If enacted," says The Washington Post, "Gov. Rick Snyder says he will sign them into law as early as Wednesday."

Former community organizer Barack Obama visited Detroit on Monday and made some predictable pro-union remarks.

“What they’re really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money,” Obama told unionized workers at the Detroit Diesel plant. But of course, as usual, Obama got that backwards. What the right-to-work laws do make it possible is for someone seeking work to get it without being required to join a union. That means workplaces will no longer be, in effect, a members-only environment. People wanting to work at Detroit Diesel, for example, will no longer be forced to shell out a chunk of their paycheck as union dues to maintain the union bosses' six-figure salaries. It means, contrary to what Obama said, that people who would otherwise not be allowed to work will be able to, thereby acquiring to the right to work for money - rather than remain unemployed.

The stupidity of Obama's remarks were nailed by an op-ed in The Detroit Free Press :
Where Obama faltered on Tuesday was with his too-cute applause line, “What they’re really talking about is giving you the right to work for less money.” That’s a reference to data, oft-cited by unions, showing that most right-to-work states have lower incomes than the U.S. average.

Unfortunately, the personal income and employment trends for Michigan are more troublesome for those who argue that states with more union members do a better job of protecting workers’ jobs and incomes.

In the year 2000, Michigan ranked 16th among U.S. states in personal income per capita. Now it’s in 36th place. During many of the past dozen years, Michigan had the nation’s highest jobless rate. We’ve improved a bit the past couple years, but only to 6th worst with a 9.1% rate.

Michigan, therefore, is hardly a poster child lately for correlating higher unionization levels — 17.5% here vs. 11.8% nationwide — with high incomes or job security.
The Left and their union allies believe that individual freedom to work without being forced to join a union is bad. Your right to not have a chunk of your paycheck stolen by a union of which you are not a member is bad. The mainstream media today is trumpeting the 'outrage over right-to-work.' Think about that. Outrage. Over people's right to work without a union forcing them to join or pay dues."  If you favor the right of people to work without  being coerced into joining a union, the union thugs and their supporters on the Left will threaten you. Post continues below the video....

James Hoffa, Teamsters union president said, "We've got a war on workers, and we've been talking about this a long time. It was in Wisconsin, it was in Ohio and now it came here. They want a fight? We'll give them a fight. We're going to kick their ass, and we'll win this battle here. Rick Snyder campaigned as the nerd, now we know he's a weak nerd, and you know what, he's for sale. I got news for you, Governor: Michigan is not for sale. You can't buy Michigan."

Leave it to a union boss like Hoffa to use a crude reference to physical violence. The governor is "a weak nerd," he said, but Hoffa just got his own ass kicked hard and handed to him by Gov. Snyder and the Republicans in the legislature.

Right-to-work will allow new employees, such as teachers for example, to be employed without being coerced into paying union dues to fat cat union bosses. If you believe the idiot-oriented propaganda from the Left, that's a bad thing for the children. The Left's greed is always so conveniently about the children. But even the children know that the unions are not fighting for them; the unions are fighting to preserve their own political power and finances.

In Michigan, the Right-To-Work legislation was brought about largely by the excesses of the unions themselves, notes Breitbart.com. "The use of members' dues proved that the feelings of many former labor union loyalists were correct; Big Labor had become largely about fighting contentious political battles and less about the welfare of the rank and file. Money that could have gone to training or even just back in the pockets of labor union members was wasted; the initiative lost in a landslide. Even more embarrassing, the 58% - 42% loss came amid Democratic gains at every level in the 2012 elections in Michigan."

"Expect the Unions this week to make a mighty noise and expect the silent majority to stay home," Breitbart.com continued. "Make no mistake, though; in November, the people of Michigan spoke loudly and clearly; they want the right to work without the union middlemen taking their cut."

Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis Wants To Eat Your Children

UPDATE, MAY 7, 2013:
Kill The Rich, Jokes Chicago Teachers Union President

Not really Karen Lewis,
but a close facsimile
Sept. 10, 2012 - The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) went on strike today,
for the first time in over 25 years. More than 26,000 teachers today inconvenienced about 400,000 school kids, putting many in danger of street violence.

This fat pig of a union bully doesn't give a damn about the kids in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). She doesn't care about their parents, either, many of whom had to scramble today to make arrangements for safety of their children.

Here's a special note for you hypersensitive liberals out there who think I'm being rude by posting this image of the vile and grotesque Karen Lewis, or by calling her names. I've got two things to say to you: (1) Fear no art, and (2) Karen Lewis herself has a long history of publicly slandering and viciously mocking people she disagrees with.

I'll hand you over momentarily to Michelle Malkin, who has some amazing videos of Lewis "bragging about smoking weed in college, cracking homophobic slurs about Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s lisp," and more. In other words, Karen Lewis is not only a big fat loudmouth, she's a cruel big fat loudmouth. Karma, baby.

Here's a video of Lewis telling the audience that she's "too fat to go to jail." She's speaking at the Northwest Teaching for Social Justice conference in Seattle on October 1, 2011. While all the teachers union toadies in the audience applauded and laughed at just the right moments, normal people will find it disturbing that this is the kind of disgusting, vile people we have in charge of our kids' education.

My friend Lennie Jarrett made a good observation today at Champion News. He notes that Lewis claims that the CTU is not in the fight for merit pay proposals.

"For those that don’t know," explains Jarrett, "merit pay is based on educational outcomes of the students, not the years of employment or the number of degrees have. By not being interested in educational outcomes of the students, Karen Lewis is telling Chicago parents education doesn’t matter, we just want your money."

Education be damned. Safety of the kids, many left to roam Chicago's dangerous streets unattended, be damned. Taxpayers be damned. Fat cat union thug Karen Lewis just wants more cheese on that.

The strike was called after more than five months of negotiations finally failed late Sunday night, when Lewis announced in a press conference that CTU would man pickets lines instead of classrooms.  Mayor Rahm Emanuel told reporters today, "Don’t take it out on the kids of Chicago if you have a problem with me." His comments were obviously aimed at Lewis and the CTU.

The situation, by the way, has created some odd political bedfellows. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have publicly condemned the strike - and given public words of support to Mayor Emanuel, Obama's former White House Chief of Staff.

Romney said, "It was a strike of choice … it’s unnecessary, it’s avoidable and it’s wrong," reports The Washington Times.

"We know that Rahm is not going to support our campaign," Ryan said today, "but on this issue and this day we stand with Mayor Rahm Emanuel."

"This does not have to divide the two parties," said Ryan today. "And so, we were going to ask, where does President Obama stand? Does he stand with his former Chief of Staff Mayor Rahm Emanuel, with the children and the parents, or does he stand with the union? On issues like this, we need to speak out and be really clear." Ryan was addressing the fact that Obama has so far not taken a stand on the strike action - and the White House has indicated that he won't. (More about Ryan's comments at ABC News.)

A lot of Republicans, if not all of them, support Emanuel in his fight against the greedy CTU. (One cannot help but think that Wisconsin's Gov. Scott Walker must have hiccups from laughing.)

To you libs who are "offended" by this, just please shut up. Until I see a flood of your letters and comments condemning Lewis for her offenses, I will just laugh at your own hypocrisy.

UPDATED: Over 1,000 Occupy Protesters March Toward CPAC Meeting in Washington

UPDATE: Earlier today, a large group of Occupy protesters were on their way to interrupt CPAC in Washington, D.C. From all accounts, there were hundreds. Somehow, the protest seems to have evaporated into a disorganized, very weak and failed attempt. See our full update here: "Occupy CPAC Fails To Occupy CPAC (LOL)"
----
February 10, 2012 - 2:30 PM ET - At least 800 to 1,000 Occupy protesters are walking toward the CPAC gathering in Washington, D.C. at this moment. Watch it live below. Many of the "Occupy CPAC" goons were actually paid to march and cause trouble.

CPAC is the "Conservative Political Action Conference," is an annual gathering of conservatives. It is being held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in D.C., Feb. 9-11.

Recent reports that Occupy and union thugs were planning to cause trouble for CPAC this week seem to now be proven correct.  Watch "Occupy CPAC" protesters live below (via Ustream) and watch CPAC live at cpac2012.conservative.org. Video: Jimmy Hoffa Jr. Declares Class Warfare Against Tea Party "Sons of Bitches"

September 5, 2011 - Detroit -Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. called Tea Party people "son of a bitches" in a Detroit rally today. He made the remark as he stirred up the crowd prior to Barack Obama's Labor Day speech. "President Obama," he said, "this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of a bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong," Hoffa added. (Watch the video below.) UPDATE 9/6/2011: Bastard Obama Won't Apologize For Bastard Hoffa's Offensive Labor Day Speech Perhaps Hoffa doesn't understand that, with his words today, he has effectively declared war on many Teamsters rank and file members. Those are the ones whose paychecks are regarded as open cookie jars by union leaders, and not just the Teamsters. A call for violence: As I've written before, I am hearing calls for violence on the streets of Madison, Wisconsin. Several self-described "progressive liberals," who did not know they were speaking to a Tea Party conservative, told me that union leaders in Milwaukee have said privately that "violence would be justified" in their fight against Gov. Scott Walker. Other folks have said that they themselves would be "okay with violence" in "the struggle for collective bargaining rights." Liberals have been violent on a massive scale in the past. Why should we believe that they would not be so again? The folks I have spoken with are itching to rumble.
One must wonder about the hints of violence in Hoffa's remarks today. When he said "Let's take these son of a bitches out," did some lunatic take that the wrong way? After all, in the wake of the Giffords shooting earlier this year, Democrats went balistic (no pun intended) over "vitriolic rhetoric" of conservatives. They rushed to link such "vitriol" to a motivation for the attack on Giffords. So, today, we hear the leader of the Teamsters offer his union members up as conscripts in Obama's "army," for the purpose of "taking out" the opposition. "Alright, alright, Jimmy Hoffa Jr. was not calling for blood in the streets," wrote John Romano at the Yes But Whatever! blog, " but his rhetoric will surely be worrisome to many. It hasn’t been a year since Gabrielle Giffords was shot and the media attacked Sarah Palin for using a target graphic in a campaign ad for Congressional candidates her PAC backed in 2010. Where is the new era of civility that the Democrats called for?" Good question. Where is the civility, Mr. Hoffa? You can bet that no Democrats, and certainly not Comrade Obama, will call Hoffa's words "vitriolic." In fact, Obama let it slide. "Naturally," wrote Warner Todd Huston today, "the Constitutional Professor in Chief said nothing about Hoffa’s disgusting display. But that shouldn’t be surprising. Obama himself has been known to employ all manner of violent tinged campaign rhetoric. He likely saw nothing wrong with Hoffa’s words nor those of the race-baiters in Congress from earlier." In fact, after Hoffa made his vitriolic speech, Obama told the crowd that he was proud of Hoffa. Civility, anyone? Hoffa's words are a tinny echo of a call to "get a little bloody" made by Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA) in February, 2011. "I'm proud to be here with people who understand that it's more than just sending an email to get you going," he said. "Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary." (Watch a video here, and see a couple of videos about union violence below.) So here's to the Little Guys, the unions members who are abused by their own union leaders for the sake of enriching themselves and bastards like Hoffa. More and more union members are fed up with those corrupt union leaders, and it should be no surprise to anyone that union membership is down. Nationally, less than 7% of private sector employees are union members. While unions were beneficial and necessary in the past to help fight workplace abuse, the tables have turned. Long gone are the days of sweat shops, and we have a five-day work week. Thanks are owed to unions of the past for those advances. Today, however, it is the unions themselves that are the abusers. Teachers Unions Explained By Dogmatic Cartoon Character

Have you ever had a conversation with a braindead liberal who just keeps repeating dogmatic slogans to you? Sure you have, and this animated video (below) depicts a funny conversation like that, between an ideologue who supports the teachers unions and a slightly befuddled tax payer. The tax payer asks some intelligent questions about why the unions deserve more money, and the socialistic knee jerk answers given by the union drone are hysterical. Uploaded to YouTube by Battlefield315, who wrote, "A supporter of the teachers unions is questioned about her belief that the unions need more money and power." That's an understatement. For a lot more videos of this type, visit Battlefield312.com.

Union Rally Crowd Smaller Than Reported

February 26, 2011 - Chicago - CNB - Between 400 and 500 people attended a rally organized by unions and socialist groups at Noon today. The event took place at the James Thompson Center downtown. The well-attended event was peaceful but boisterous, with enthusiastic supporters of public sector unions chanting and cheering speakers. See our slideshow below.

An attendance of 500 is good, especially considering the damp, cold weather that included some snow. Nevertheless, some feel it necessary to exaggerate the number.

Bob Roman, writing for the DSA Labor Network's "Talking Union" blog, wrote that there were 2,000 people in attendance. My own count, as indicated above, was between 400 and 500. My photo here was taken just before Noon. Roman wrote, "By the time the rally began, the plaza was nearly full, and organizers announced about 2,000 people were present."

It's not clear from Roman's post whether he was actually at the event. If he was, he's mistaken about the numbers. If he was not there, then he's accepting the false crowd estimate of "the organizers," and equally mistaken. Granted, more people poured into the plaza after I took this photo, but nowhere near 2,000. Roman is "editor of New Ground, the newsletter of Chicago Democratic Socialists of America."

The SEIU's Violent Love Song

What a great article by Warner T. Huston: "Union Admits It Hates Voters And Loves Communist Imagery With Help of Dropkick Murphys Band" at Publius' Forum today. Warner writes that "a bunch of drunken morons calling themselves the Dropkick Murphys have added their off key voices to American union thuggery by writing a protest song that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has glommed onto." Couple that with a dangerous statement by idiot Congressman Michael Capuano (D-MA) the other day. In a public speech, he said, "Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary." Nice, huh? You can watch the nice Democrat say it in the video below. It's yet another example of the Left's own violent speech being ignored by the MSM. The SEIU thugs love to rumble. Will Dick Durbin wring his hands over this musical incivility? Will Sheik Obama denounce this glorification of violence? Jesse Jackson?

Obama Worried About 'Assault On Unions,' But FBI Worried About Union Ties To Terrorists (Updated)

February 17, 2011 - Oh, this is rich. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wants to take away the "right" of public employees to collective bargaining. The state's legislature will be deciding the issue today. Update, 12:12 p.m. CST: WSJ.com reports that Wisconsin's Democratic legislators "were not present at the start of the state session to vote on the bill." Comrade President Barack Obama, has called Walker's actions an "assault on unions." I'm waiting for someone to characterize the unions' actions as an "assault on taxpayers." Obama is a puppet of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), whose leaders in Chicago are being investigated for links to terrorist organizations such as Iran-backed Hamas and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Greg Sargent, at WaPo's Plum Line, noted that WTMJ-TV (Milwaukee) has an interview with Obama online. Sargent wrote that Obama said "adjustments to new fiscal realities" need to be made, "but insisted it's important not to 'vilify' public employees and described them as 'our neighbors, our friends'." Apparently Comrade Barry does not consider ordinary folks who don't work for the Gubbermint to be neighbors or friends. Has Comrade Barry said anything about the suspected connection of Chicago's SEIU Local 73 to murdering terrorists, people who plan assaults on our neighbors and friends? "Chicago SEIU Local Leaders Probed for Terror Links" is the headling of a February 15 article by Carl Horowitz at the National Legal and Policy Center: "Last September 24," wrote Horowitz, "FBI agents raided residences in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan of more than a dozen radical activists in an effort to connect them to the Hamas (Gaza and the West Bank) and FARC (Colombia) guerrilla movements. Two of the occupants were SEIU Local 73 chief steward and executive board member Joe Iosbaker and former local board member-steward Tom Burke. Neither they nor anyone else has been arrested. But as the case unfolds, questions have arisen over the extent of involvement, if any, by the Chicago-based radical network that nurtured President Obama's political ambitions from the Nineties onward." CPAC Names Its 2011 Ronald Reagan Award Recipient

February 12, 2011 - A former conservative powerhouse in Washington state politics was named the 2011 Ronald Reagan Award Recipient today by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C. The recipient is the former Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) executive vice president Tom McCabe, who sat on today's "Bleeding America Dry: The Threat of Public Sector Unions" panel at CPAC. Tom McCabe made a career of fighting heavy state regulation as the executive vice president of the BIAW. just confirmed in a news release that executive vice president Tom McCabe is leaving after 21 years fighting state regulations. A BIAW press release about McCabe's departure in December, 2010 noted this: McCabe built BIAW’s workers' compensation retro program into the largest of its kind in the state, refunding $360 million from state government back to builder businesses over the past 20 years. Under McCabe, BIAW became a powerful political force for conservative, pro-business candidates and causes. BIAW hired McCabe the same year the disastrous Growth Management Act became law in 1990. Over the next 20 years, McCabe directed a lobbying team that prevented the passage of any legislation that negatively targeted the building industry. Source: TheOlympian.com (also see "Tearing down the builders" at SeattleWeekly.com). A press release about McCabe's award was issued at 1:00 p.m. today: For Immediate Release: February 12, 2011 TOM MCCABE NAMED 2011 RONALD REAGAN AWARD RECIPIENT BY AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE UNION Washington, DC -- Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Chairman David A. Keene last night announced Tom McCabe of Olympia, Washington, as the 2011 recipient of the Ronald Reagan Award, an honor given annually to a conservative leader fighting in the trenches for the principles embodied by Ronald Reagan. The award was presented during the conference's annual Ronald Reagan Banquet for which Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels was the keynote speaker. In presenting the award, Chairman Keene said, "Tom McCabe, during his tenure as the Executive Director of the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) for more than 20 years, built the organization into a force for free enterprise and conservative principles. Unlike most business associations across the nation, BIAW has been, under Tom's leadership, steadfast in its dedication to the defense of small business and entrepreneurship against the onslaught of the labor unions, trial lawyers, liberals and environmental extremists." McCabe worked in the Department of Veterans Affairs during the Reagan Administration. In 1989, he and his wife Susan moved to her home state of Washington. In 1990, McCabe was named Executive Director of the BIAW and, over the next 21 years, created the premier business trade association in the state by adhering to the simple truths of promoting freedom, free enterprise, lower taxes and less regulation. "Tom's strength of character and dedication to conservatism made him a target of the liberals and the Democratic left who always oppose conservatives and even some Republicans who have attacked Tom and BIAW to please the left in furtherance of their own political ambitions. The Ronald Reagan award is given each year to a conservative warrior and we are proud to present this year's prize to such a warrior -- Tom McCabe," Keene concluded. The American Conservative Union is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization. The American Conservative Union Foundation’s annual CPAC meeting is the largest gathering of conservatives annually. Testifying to the exponential growth of the conservative movement, this year’s conference has proven to be the most highly attended in its decades-long history with fifteen percent more attendees than last year and twice as many exhibitors. With forty percent of registrants being first time attendees, this year's CPAC will emphasize the development of a younger generation of conservatives. Contact: Anne Marie Frawley (202) 489-7559

Pervert Does Tricks in Teamsters Truck

January 19, 2011 - Chicago - Does the International Brotherhood of Teamsters know that one of their trucks is allegedly being driving by a pervert who may be flashing people while playing with himself? They might want to read this report in Oak Lawn Patch today: A man driving a black truck removed his clothes and pleasured himself while driving down 95th Street, an Oak Lawn police report said. Police responded to an “indecent exposure” call around 4 a.m. Jan. 9. A woman phoned police and reported a white male stripping off his clothes and flashing her. She was able to provide police with the license plate number, and police traced the registration to the Teamsters in Springfield. Full article here... That would be the Teamsters Local 916. Perhaps Tony Barr, President of the local, could look into the situation. One has to wonder if the driver was on the clock, and if so, did he have permission from his union steward to strip naked while on the job. There is no confirmation to the rumor that the organization will be changing its name to International Brotherhood of Perverts anytime soon. SEIU Endorsements Tell Us Who NOT To Vote For

The Tea Party Patriots Chicago put together a good list of SEIU-endorsed candidates running in Illinois. As right-minded folks know, the corrupt SEIU's endorsement is a sure indication that a candidate is not fit for office because they are in the pocket of the union leaders and their wallets. Here is the list, which originally appeared today under the headline "at the Tea Party Patriots Chicago website as written by "Pat": Although I wanted to write a piece on who the candidates are and what they stand for, I have not had the time available to dedicate to such a task. So instead I thought of a way to generate a list of people we should be weary of. I grabbed a list of candidates who the SEIU has endorsed. This is the same SEIU who held rallies to raise our taxes. Therefore it is easy to assume that any candidate that the SEIU has endorsed will in fact have trouble with fiscal responsibility. Why Is Peter Roskam Kissing Union Ass?

Peter Roskam seems confused. He represents the 6th Congressional District in Illinois. He calls himself a Republican and he's running for re-election. Did he think it would be a wise move to support currently proposed legislation for a bailout of troubled union pension funds? In theory, the bill could add $165 billion to the of American taxpayers' already heavy burden. The bill is being introduced by Senator Bob Casey, (D-Pa.), who says it will save jobs and help people, and Roskam supports it. The bill in question will essentially let multi-employer union pension plans, like the Teamster's plan that is currently causing UPS so much trouble, segregate out the workers of defunct companies and get the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp to pony up for their benefits. Media Matters says that the bailout won't cost $165 billion, and they're right; that's the total liabilities of the plan. Theoretically, it could cost $165 billion if every single employer went bankrupt, but that's not a very likely scenario. More at The Atlantic... NetRightDaily reports that "Americans for Limited Government (ALG) has sent a letter to 9 House Republicans urging that they withdraw their support from legislation providing a taxpayer bail-out of labor union run pension funds. Among the union pension funds in critical danger are those run by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) and more than a hundred other union-run funds." Roskam is one of the nine Congressmen to get that letter. Read more at NetRightDaily.com Roskam has a reputation as a good conservative, so his support of Casey's union bailout bill seems bizarre. Roskam has a good "general favorability towards Republicans" according to National Journal Online's 2009 Vote Ratings with score of 76.0. That's "good," but it's far from perfect. (Compare it to Mark Kirk's 60.7 rating.) (Hat tip to TeaPartyElections.)

Chicago Aldermen, SEIU Bullying and Wal-Mart

Chicago, the city that works - sometimes, and in spite of itself. Peter Bella writes about the ongoing nonsense and power plays regarding a proposed Wal-Mart store in Chicago's historic Pullman neighborhood on the south side.

Mayor Richard Daley, to his credit, would like to see Wal-Mart (or any big retailer) build in that impoverished neighborhood. It's what some call a "food desert," with few good places to buy food or, for that matter, much else. That goes hand in hand with a lack of places at which to work. Some Chicago alderman and the unions that pull their strings would happily allow people to continue to struggle with no jobs or adequate shopping opportunities rather than allow a Wal-Mart into the hood. They demand, as Bella notes, a "living wage" of $11.03 per hour. (Has anybody ever offered a reasonable definition of "living wage?")  Even minimum wage is better than no wage at all, but the union bosses and corruptocrats in City Hall would apparently prefer no wages for people in Pullman.

"Earleir this week," writes Bella in his column at Chicago Now, "Alderman Solis, the Zoning Committee Chairman demanded Wal-Mart negotiate with SEIU and other unions over wages and benefits. Solis does not know how things work. How can unions negotiate when there are no employees they represent?"

The answer is actually simple. The union bosses don't give a damn about the employees they claim to represent. If they did, they'd push in favor of Wal-Mart, let some unemployed people start earning something, and then - later - negotiate upwards on their behalf. The bosses, however, live pretty high on the union dues that are ripped out of every member's paycheck. The lower the wage, the lower the dues. Even a union boss understands the law of diminished returns.

John Ruberry at Marathon Pundit notes that "Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) has been trying to bring the retail giant--as well as hundreds of jobs--to the historic Pullman neighborhood. Daley wants an up-and-down vote on proposed South Side store" and that currently the unemployment rate in the Chicago metropolitan area is 11.3 percent.

Six years ago, the Chicago City Council actually did approve a Wal-Mart for Chicago's 37th Ward on the city's west side. Alderman Emma Mitts fought hard to get that store for her constituents (it opened in July, 2006).

Of that 2004 vote, Alderman Helen Shiller (46th Ward) said after that "We are dealing with a huge company with a long history of predatory practices," and said that Wal-Mart does not provide its employees with adequate health care. "They count on the city to provide assistance to their workers," she said. "We are creating more loss than gains." (MSNBC...)  Shiller doesn't seem to understand that (a) the city itself has a long history of predatory taxation practices or that (b) many unemployed people are already count on the city for assistance. A pawn of SEIU herself, Shiller either cannot grasp or will not admit that at least some of those who would be employed by Wal-Mart could depend less on the city for assistance if they had an income, however meager. The real predators are the union bosses and the aldermen they support with campaign contributions and political workers.

Wal-Mart contributes to politicians, too, but they need to counter the opposition. Anti-Wal-Mart spinning by its opponents in public office and in the media is often reaches the deep into the depths of idiocy.

An absurd example of this comes from the University of Illinois at Chicago in a January 8, 2010 news release. The headline of the release boggles the mind: "Study: Chicago Walmart Does Not Boost Employment or Retail Sales." This flies in the face of reality. It smacks of the Big Lie so favored by Joseph Goebbels, who said that "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."  What thinking person, however, can actually believe that new retailer with a store over 100,000 square feet and needing many new employees to staff it would not boost employment opportunities?

Yet UIC would have you believe that big lie. That January, 2010 news release claimed that "The opening of a Walmart store in Chicago's Austin neighborhood in 2006 has not increased retail activity or employment opportunities, according to a study by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Loyola University Chicago."

Really?  It hasn't increased employment opportunities? For anybody? Has that Wal-Mart remained unstaffed with no employees in the several years it has been open? How has the store functioned without employees? Half an ounce of critical thinking shows the absurdity of the UIC "study." 37th Ward Alderman Emma Mitts disagreed with the UIC study, noted Chicagoist, "saying on WTTW's Chicago Tonight that 'people see what they want to see,' and that she hadn't heard anyone in her community complaining."

The actions and words of the SEIU and their puppets on the City Council indicate that they really don't give a damn about the people they "represent." The propanda work on their behalf, by many in the media, is shameless. The losers who buy into the Wal-Mart hatred are simply pitiful.

Does Sen. Heather Steans Hate Children?

Adam Robinson is the Republican candidate for Illinois State Senate in the 7th District. He is running against incumbent Heather Steans (a Democrat). He wrote the following piece about school choice - and Steans' opposition to it.

State Senator Heather Steans
Votes Against School Choice
- by Adam Robinson

On Thursday, March 25, the Illinois Senate passed a bill that would offer tuition vouchers to 22,000 elementary school children enrolled at the worst performing schools in Chicago’s public system. The bill (SB 2494), drafted by Democrat State Senator James Meeks (D-Chicago), enables families to use these vouchers at any parochial or private school that admits their child.

At its core, this bill is about giving parents in neighborhoods with perpetually failing elementary schools a choice in how their children are educated. The result: parents get choices, kids get a better education, and CPS is held accountable for their inability to deliver a quality product.

To call this bill a landmark would be an understatement. For years, Chicago Public Schools have failed the communities in which these “bottom 10%” schools operate. Should the bill pass the Illinois House, these 22,000 Chicago children – mostly from poor families – will have access to a better education and the brighter economic future that improved schooling can bring. Notably, these goals will be accomplished without spending one dollar more in tax revenue than was already allocated by the General Assembly.

Said Meeks of the bill, "It was for the bottom 10 percent of failing schools. Who could begrudge students in a failing school a chance to get out if they want to get out?"

Who would deny 22,000 children and their parents the right to a quality education?

Incumbent State Senator Heather Steans, that’s who.

Despite overwhelming and bipartisan support for SB 2494, Steans voted against it, casting a vote for maintaining the status quo and for keeping kids in failing schools.

With her “no” vote on SB 2494, Sen. Steans has turned her back on the 22,000 kids in these failing schools, and has instead opted to side with the teachers unions in an attempt to preserve their support. Steans has said that she voted against the bill because she claimed it underfunded Special Education programs, but pardon us if we don’t believe a word of it, Senator.

Why the skepticism over her reason for voting “no”? Could it be the $5,500 in campaign cash she received from the Illinois Education Association’s political action committee? Or maybe the $3,500 in cash she pocketed from the Illinois Federation of Teachers? Perhaps it was the $1,750 in contributions given to her by her friends at the AFL-CIO? Or maybe it was the $6,000 in contributions received from AFSCME?

Steans raked in $16,750 from teachers unions since 2008, giving her 16,750 reasons to vote against the 22,000 kids who are stuck in Chicago’s worst elementary schools. That’s 16,750 reasons to tell parents, “tough luck, folks,” while preserving the sources of all that campaign cash.

When he faced the ire of these same teachers unions after introducing this bill, what did State Senator James Meeks do? He mailed them their money back. All of it. That’s called principled leadership.

What did State Senator Heather Steans do? She chose the unions over the kids, and voted against school choice. That’s called selling out.

If you believe, like I do, that parents - not a massive state bureaucracy – are best able to choose the education that meets their child’s needs, then join me and my fight for positive change and common ground reforms that empower and improve our communities! Just head to www.ElectAdamRobinson.com to get involved and show your support today. I can’t do this without you!

SEIU Boss Urges "Old School Ass Whipping"

A disturbing video shows how the SEIU threatened homecare providers in Fresno, CA to vote their way and even change their ballots in a union election several months ago. An SEIU-UHW boss is caught on video telling members that they need to "bury" the NUHW, the competing union (National Union of Healthcare Workers), and to "drive a stake through the heart that is thing that is NUHW." And how to do that? Lean on the membership, threaten their job security, and generally scare the hell out of them. It should be remembered that SEIU is joined at the hip with ACORN, which is heavily supported by the likes of Barack Obama. (See related videos and articles underneath this video.)
