Aldous Huxley is best known for his book "Brave New World." Huxley was an intellectual who gave a lot of thought to social trends and how they would affect our freedoms. Video length is 44 minutes. This speech focused especially on the control of a population. This extraordinary speech was made by Huxley on March 20, 1962 at the Berkeley Language Center, where he spent the spring semester at the university as a Ford research professor. (Transcript at Public Intelligence.) By the way, you can read "Brave New World" for free at http://www.huxley.net/. |

(Video) Aldous Huxley Speech, "The Ultimate Revolution"
Do You Understand the American Form of Government?
This well-produced video clearly explains the political spectrum and the differences between Right and Left - and how that affects the American form of government. It's more than that, really: As the YouTuber who posted it wrote, the video is "an explanation of the various forms of government, and why America is not a democracy." Joe Wilson, Model Congressman
Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, South Carolina, is the guy who yelled out "liar!" during Liar Obama's speech full 'o lies on Wednesday night. The only thing Wilson did wrong, in my humble opinion, was to apologize for speaking truth afterward, and for that, no apology is due. Wilson's apology:
“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”
My interpretation of Wilson's apology is simple. He's sorry that he lost his cool. He is not taking back the meaning of what he shouted. He shouldn't. Furthemore, he should have demanded an apology from Obama and the leaders of the Democrat Party for their dispicable behavior since early August, when people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid called Americans opposed to health care reform brownshirts and accused them of being thugs and Nazis.
Video: British MPs Have More Backbone
Than U.S. Members of Congress
Wilson's emotional outburst was the culmination of many weeks of observing the abuse and lies thrown against conservatives in the health care debate nationwide. He has studied the issues. He has read the proposed legislation. His outburst was not some sudden, whimsical idea that popped into his head. He - like millions of us - has known for a long time now that Obama and his party henchmen are indeed lying. When Wilson shouted "lie!" he shouted out truth. For that, Joe Wilson is a model member of Congress. I wish there were hundreds more like him.
Video: Fist fight in the Russian Duma
That won't happen, of course. Now, moron commenters like "Juliet" are calling Wilson a "dispicable racist." I cannot see anything racist in what Wilson shouted last night. Sure, it could be called rude, but racist? Shame on you, Juliet, you owe Rep. Wilson an apology.
Video: Fist Fight in Ukraine Parliament
If the Republicans sitting quietly in the Congress last night had any courage, every one of them would have been shouting "liar!" about every two minutes or so. Obama's speech was full of so many inaccuracies and outright, intentional disitortions of truth that I won't even attempt to list them here. You can see links to those who have listed the lies, however, here.
Video: Brawl in Taiwan's Parliament
Those of you who follow the parliamentary sessions of other nations know that the U.S. Congress is remarkably civil. Sometimes I think it is too civil. When a member stands before the Congress (and this goes for the U.S. Senate, as well), spouting lies and untruths, somebody should stand and call that member out. Perhaps shouting "liar!" is not the best method, but legislators should call for points of information or use other methods of objecting at the moment the lie is mouthed. A man accused of mass murder has the right to object in a court of law. Why shouldn't a member of Congress have the ability - or courage - to object on the floor of our top legislative body?
I don't advocate fisticuffs for the U.S. Congress. However, a bit of honest passion and displays of moral outrage, combined with red-in-the-face, veins-about-to-pop screaming now and then would be rather refreshing. It would certainly help C-SPANS sorry ratings, and would also make more Americans actually take an interest in what happens in Congress.
But let's get back to Wilson and Obama. The best way to sum this up is with something I found at Hot Air:
The culprit was South Carolina rep Joe Wilson, who felt moved to act when [Obama] told what was, in fact, a lie. Although certainly not his biggest of the night: Where this jackass gets off lecturing Americans on civility after his cretinous cronies spent a month demagoging the hell out of every protester in sight is beyond me. You’re Mr. Clean, aren’t you, champ? And bottom-feeders like Harry Reid are your hatchet men. Nice work if you can get it.

Have You Read the Illinois Constitution?
The Illinois Constitution is undergoing close scrutiny just now, in preparation for a possible Constitutional Convention. Such a convention would certainly produce changes in the constitution, which would affect the way we live and work in all of Illinois. Activists Al Salvi and Bruno Behrend have some information about the possibility of a convention.
An Illinois Constitutional Convention?
Few Illinois citizens are aware that the most important vote they can cast this coming November is whether or not Illinois will hold a Constitutional Convention. This is a once in a 20-year opportunity for Illinois citizens to amend, or completely rewrite, the ground rules between citizens and their government.
The preamble to the Illinois Constitution:
We, the People of the State of Illinois - grateful to
Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty
which He has permitted us to enjoy and seeking His blessing
upon our endeavors - in order to provide for the health,
safety and welfare of the people; maintain a representative
and orderly government; eliminate poverty and inequality;
assure legal, social and economic justice; provide
opportunity for the fullest development of the individual;
insure domestic tranquility; provide for the common defense;
and secure the blessings of freedom and liberty to ourselves
and our posterity - do ordain and establish this Constitution
for the State of Illinois.

An Illinois Constitutional Convention?
Should There Be A Constitutional Convention?
(Thanks to Al Salvi and Bruno Behrend for this information)
Few Illinois citizens are aware that the most important vote they can cast this coming November is whether or not Illinois will hold a Constitutional Convention.
This is a once in a 20-year opportunity for Illinois citizens to amend, or completely rewrite, the ground rules between citizens and their government.
HowWill a ConventionWork?
If 60% of the people vote “yes” on the question of whether to have a convention, the next session of the legislature will provide for the election of 2 delegates from each Senate District, (118) along with the funding and the location of the Convention. Once convened, any changes approved by delegates are then presented to the voters for ratification. The changes will be ratified if approved by a simple majority. Feudalism in Illinois
Friend Bruno Behrend has a thought-provoking post at his "Extreme Wisdom" blog, in which he reflects on the sad, sorry state of politics in Springfield. Titled "Feudalism and Illinois Political System," it's a fun read. Bruno hosts a talk show on WKRS AM 1220 every weekday from 10:00 to Noon.
Obviously, we’ve come a long way since Medieval times, but here in Illinois, we seem to be reverting to Feudalism. Over at Rich Miller’s CapitolFax, there is some commentary on the potential of both Bill Daley and Lisa Madigan running for Governor. How droll. READ THE FULL POST...
BRIT GOVT TO RELEASE UFO FILES
"MORE than 11,000 UFOs have been sighted in the past 30 years," says The Sun (U.K.).
The Sun reports that British government will begine to release its top-secret UFO-related documents and files gradually, over the next four years.
Contrast that to the still-tight manner that the U.S. Government treats its UFO files. FULL STORY...

AIR FORCE: ROSWELL UFO CASE CLOSED
The Air Force Times has a great article today about one of the greatest stories in modern American folklore: The Roswell UFOs. Now, whether it really happened or not, and whether or not you're a believer, the Roswell story is fascinating. Fascinating because, well, what if it's true? And if it's not, it's still fascinating to ponder how such a story originated, and then become known by virtually every American and tens of millions worldwide.
The report from Air Times begins:
June 24, 2008 - Eleven years ago, today, the following story appeared in Air Force Times. For years, people had wondered if U.S. government, and specifically, the Air Force had hidden secrets of a UFO crash in New Mexico.
What, the Government hiding secrets? Oh, come now. The article continues:
The Air Force wants its June 24 report disproving UFO sightings in Roswell, N.M., to clear up any possible mystery on the subject: The 231-page “Roswell Report” is subtitled “Case Closed.”
Fun stuff, whether you believe or not. FULL ARTICLE...

The Autocrats of Springfield
Oh, those "Democrats." So un-democratic. Not only are they fond of disenfranchising their own party voters in primary after primary nationwide, they use autocratic strongarm tactics in the Illinois Legislature:
Rep. Keith Sommer, R-Morton, said he didn't think much of the process that House Democrats used Wednesday to pass the budget plans, giving lawmakers - especially Republicans - little chance to review them.
"This resembles the government of Burma," said Sommer, referring to the country also known as Myanmar. "They know best what to do. They want no outside help. And yet they're tacking on billions and billions of dollars in costs to the taxpayers, with no way to pay for it." STORY AT PJSTAR...

Toni Duncan Getting It Done! (Joe Moore Slacking)
"Thanks to the sensible, understanding workmen this morning, the seniors in wheelchairs can safely get across," Toni writes. Will Alderman Joe Moore take credit for yet another good thing that he had nothing to with? According to Toni, "the ward office had absolutely nothing to do with the patch on the former Hole On Howard." (FULL POST...)
Gee, this reminds me of a pile of gravel next to a bus stop, in front of some stores, that Alderman Moore's office has known about FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. The excuse: It's Streets and San's responsibility. Yes, but it's an alderman's job to liaison with Streets and San (and other other city bureaus) TO GET THINGS DONE. But that's not Joe's style. He's too busy campaigning in other states for Oback Barama and working on his run for Congress in 2009.
IMPEACHING BLAGOJEVICH
Skewered and about to be roasted. How will Blago flunkies like David Fagus spin this?

BREAKING: HAITIAN GOVT FALLS
Why? Well, basket-case-nation Haiti is a failed nation, yes. But the main catalyst for its government's collapse today was the high price of food, especially rice.
(Let's hope the geniuses in Washington are paying attention and consider stopping the outrageous use of corn to make fuel for our automobiles, which is driving up the cost of corn and other crops!)
PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - Haiti's government fell on Saturday when senators fired the prime minister after more than a week of riots over food prices, ignoring a plan presented by the president to slash the cost of rice. Sixteen of 17 senators at a special session voted against Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis, an ally President Rene Preval placed at the head of a coalition cabinet in June 2006 that was meant to unite the fractious Caribbean nation. Blago, the Druggo and Rezko
Oh oh. Governor Blagojevich seems to have been hanging with a bad, bad crowd. Star witness Stuart Levine tells court about snorting crystal meth all night long. Is Blago's nose clean?
Daylong, drug-fueled parties at the Purple Hotel in Lincolnwood and sometimes in Springfield. Snorting crystal meth and "Special K." Stuart Levine, the star witness at businessman and political fund-raiser Tony Rezko's corruption trial, told jurors Monday the drugs would make him "euphoric" and lower his inhibitions as he partied all night with five other men....
...The 62-year-old Highland Park businessman has pleaded guilty to corruption and fraud involving state boards. Rezko, 52, of Wilmette, is accused of scheming with Levine to split kickbacks tied to those boards. MORE at Sun-Times...

David Mamet Is Right
Are you a Liberal struggling to get straight? If you're still taking suffredin for your neurological disorder, there is hope. After a reader read the piece by play write David Mamet recently, she wrote a critique of Mamet's thought process. She didn't like it. She said he was wrong. But she was wrong. Mamet's piece in the Village Voice, "Why I Am No Longer a 'Brain-Dead Liberal," tells how he went from Loony Left to Rational Right (my terms, not his).
Mamet wrote, "What about the role of government? Well, in the abstract, coming from my time and background, I thought it was a rather good thing, but tallying up the ledger in those things which affect me and in those things I observe, I am hard-pressed to see an instance where the intervention of the government led to much beyond sorrow."
But our dear reader, God bless her, is still struggling. I present her comments with respect and compassion. She has yet to enjoy the breakthrough that Mamet has. Her comments, paraphrased, with my responses. Our reader offered three "easy counterpoints" to Mamet's profoundly correct statement:
Public education, says our reader, is "not great but has improved the economic prospects for individuals" not born into privilege.
Dear reader, the current dropout rate in Chicago's public schools is about 50%. You call that improved economic prospects? Perhaps it is, if you consider the job opportunities for parole officers and rising numbers of prison employees. But half a century of an inverse relationship of money spent to quality education outcomes says that Mamet is correct here. Public education is Government education. That is, the public schools are owned and operated by the Government. Can you honestly look around today and say that kids are getting a better education K-12 than kids did 40 or 30 years ago? What was the dropout rate for high schools in 1970? Or 1960? How about 1950? Point to Mamet.
Social Security, says our dear reader, is another panacea of wonders from the Government. "Old age used to mean bone crushing poverty," she wrote. She said that Social Security is "under funded," but that "the alternative is a horror IMO."
Oh, dear. Social Security is not under-funded, it is over-abused by the Federal Government borrowing from it to pay for things that it shouldn't, which is a violation of President Roosevelt's promise to each of us. Furthermore, there is massive SS fraud, from citizens as well as from illegal immigrants. Sorry. Mamet scores here, too.
Public Health, says our still-struggling reader, "eradicated disease and improved life expectancy."
Not quite, friend. Health advances have been driven by Private Enterprise. The Govamint did not invent all those life saving drugs, the life saving medical equipment, the brilliant medical techniques, the quick ambulances that speed people to hospitals. That was - and is - doctors, researchers and private investors. Sure, Government has gotten involved, but screws things up at least as often as it helps. Want a working example of how your "Public Health" works? Ask Larry Suffredin, Todd Stroger, or any health industry employee along the US-Mexican border. Mamet is right here, too. Also: One in four teenage girls in the U.S. has a sexually transmitted disease. That is stunningly sad. How has your "public health" helped? Years now of the lunatic cry against abstinence and politically correct health programs have gotten us to this point. "Eradicated disease?" Don't make me laugh, I'm too busy crying.
So, in general, what my friends to the Left fail to acknowledge is that the Government is a capital taker, and not a hell of a lot is given back. The Government does not facilitate opportunities for the masses. It hinders it in the balance. The best thing the Government can do to facilitate opportunity is to get out of the way. That's not to say some oversight isn't needed, but look at the way an alderman or state representative can stand in the way of a perfectly legitimate business opening.
The Government does not protect individual rights. The People do, by being vigilant and shaping the Government to their will. The People have forced the Government, on occasion, to protect rights and so forth, but remember that it was the Government that allowed and reaffirmed slavery (through several Supreme Court rulings). It was Government, Federal and states, that allowed institutionalized segregation after the Civil War. The People forced the Government to change, and to subsequently criminalize segregation, not the other way around.
Government does not encourage risk taking or investments; taxes stunt growth and discourage creation of new jobs and businesses. The new Heartland clinic in Rogers Park, for example, did not encourage "risk taking." It encouraged a small group of underemployed political hacks to demand free money from Auntie Jan Schakowsky, who then demanded the money from the Treasury. Were these guys "risk takers?" Hardly. They were pilferers, stealing from your purse and my wallet.
Ask the hundreds of thousands of Cook County residents who will drive out of Chicago and/or Cook County this weekend to buy stuff so they can avoid the high taxes here. Ask them if they feel Government is looking out for their best interests. Then ask the hundreds of people in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood, whose homes are about to be seized by eminent domain abuse, or the folks in Lincoln Square who nearly lost their businesses to the same.
Over-regulation by the Government discourages or squelches opportunity. As for the predictability of the future, that's amusing. But you're right here: Look at the basket case called Michigan and we can accurately predict Illinois's future if the Daleys, Strogers and Blagojeviches continue with their policies. Pretty frightening, but yes, quite predictable.
So, yes, Mr. Mamet is right. Right on all counts.
