Locals Living Near Area 51 Brace For Possible Invasion

It started as a joke on Facebook. But suddenly it exploded with over 1.5 million people "signing up" to "storm Area 51" in Nevada "to see them aliens."

The Facebook event, called "Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us," says this: "We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Let’s see them aliens."

The "naruto run," explains The Guardian newspaper, "refers to the particular, oft-memed, ostrich-like sprint of a popular Japanese anime character."

CBS8's I-Team filed this excellent video report about how local residents are preparing for up to a million people invading their neighborhood in the shadow of the secret facility. Not everyone is thrilled. Some who live near Groom Lake are apprehensive.

The US military is also apprehensive, points out The Guardian:
The US Air Force, however, is not amused, with a spokeswoman telling the New York Times “any attempt to illegally access military installations or military training areas is dangerous”. “No trespassing” signs in the area reportedly state that the use of “deadly force” against intruders is authorized.
Even world-famous Area 51 whistle blower Bob Lazar is urging people to stay away and not to invade the top secret facility. He says there are no aliens and no alien technology at Area 51, as reported by AVClub.com.

Clinton Publicly Discussed Area 51 Eight Years Before Obama Joked About It

December 9, 2013 - The media today is busy claiming that Barack Obama is the first president to publicly mention Area 51. Lazy reporters and lazy editors let this story go out, but is it true? Sort of, but technically no.

Obama joked about Area 51 during a tribute to actress Shirley MacLaine at a reception last night (Sunday, Dec. 8) to honor recipients of Kennedy Center Honors. MacLaine was one of the honorees. Obama referred to Area 51 by saying that newly elected presidents are asked "what's really going on in Area 51?"

Area 51 is a secretive military facility at dry Groom Lake in Lincoln County, Nevada (map). It's been rumored for decades that the military keeps UFOs and even extraterrestrials at Area 51. Also called Homey Airport, it is officially part of Edwards Air Force Base.

"When I wanted to know, I'd call Shirley MacLaine," Obama joked. MacLaine is known for her deep interest in the paranormal, including the possibility of UFOs and extraterrestrial visitations. She writes about it on her website. "I think I just became the first President to ever publicly mention Area 51," Obama added.

The media ran with it. Bloggers ran with it. Some treated Obama's mention of Area 51 as though a great state secret had just been revealed. PBS ran a story today with this misleading headline: "The Secret's Out: Obama Acknowledges Existence Of Area 51."

But Obama revealed no secrets at the Kennedy Center on Sunday night, and the PBS story even noted that the CIA "confirmed the existence of Area 51, officially known as the Nevada Test and Training Range and Groom Lake" this past August.

"Mr. Obama did mention Area 51 - but said not a word about the kind of work that goes on there," wrote Knoller, "It's still highly classified." He got that wrong: As noted above, CIA admits it exists. In fact, a 1992 CIA report was declassified in August, 2013. That report not only mentioned Area 51, it even said where it is.

Obama may be the first sitting president to publicly mention Area 51, he is not the first president to do so.

Former President Bill Clinton discussed Area 51 in 2005 during a public question-and-answer session in Hong Kong, and you can watch that video here.

Mark Knoller at CBS News wrote an article titled "Is Obama really the first president to publicly mention Area 51?" Knoller wrote, "President Obama was right Sunday when he said he was likely the first U.S. president ever to make public mention of Area 51 - the off-limits military base near Groom Lake, Nev., at which top secret and sometimes mysterious and suspicious activities are carried out."

Knoller was technically incorrect to say Obama was right. But I give Knoller credit because, unlike most of the mainstream media - and far too many bloggers - he at least questioned the veracity of Obama's tongue-in-cheek claim to be the first president to publicly mention Area 51. Knoller mentioned Clinton three times in his article, he somehow missed Clinton's 2005 Hong Kong mention of Area 51. Maybe he was unaware of that, or maybe he chose to ignore because Clinton was no longer a sitting president in 2005. But the last time I checked, former US presidents retain the title of "President" after they leave office.

All in all, it was a fluffy, fun and insignificant thing that Obama said. It was, admittedly, funny. At least he didn't threaten to invade Area 51 as President Dwight Eisenhower is said to have done.

Multiple Videos Show UFOs Over Chicago On July 4, 2013

July 5, 2013 - Several videos (below) have come to light that show UFOs moving slowly through the sky over Chicago on the night of July 4.

Chicagoans called local authorities about the mysterious bright objects that floated slowing over the Windy City. They were not fireworks.

A report today by WGN says that "Peter Davenport, the director of the National UFO Reporting Center, said the center [has been] overwhelmed with calls from across the nation with reports of seeing the same figures: a cluster of orange, red or yellow lights." WGN has a video there, but we have several more below.

Nobody is saying these were spaceships from another galaxy, and nobody really know what they are. But then, that's why they're called "unidentified flying objects."

Humansville UFO, 2009

I thought this might be a joke at first. "Humansville" seemed to be the giveaway, but a quick search shows that there really is a place in Missouri with that name. I mean, today is, after all, the birthday of H.G. Wells (Sept. 21). Did they have mysterious visitors on September 17? MUFON Log Number: US-09212009-0002 Submitted Date: 2009-09-21 00:33 "...it appeared to be a triangular shaped black craft with 3 white lights, one near each corner. The lights slowly pulsated simaltaneously, dim and then bright. The craft seemed as if it could be a mile to 1/2 mile a way and appeared to be about the size of a football field." Full report at UFO Stalker.) This is not the first time that a UFO report has come out of Humansville. Real UFOs? Video "Sighting" (Uh Huh...)

"30 Minutes Of Real UFO Footage - UFO Sighting August 13th 2009" is the title of the video, posted to YouTube on August 13. Real? Or fake? It looks good, but just one thing bothers me: We hear "witnesses" in the video, who are either some of the most sedate people ever to exist or are lousy actors. If this video is authentic, at least one of these people should be saying something like "Oh my GOD! Shouldn't we call the Air Force or something!?!?" or "Holy crap, this is the most incredible thing I've ever seen!" Nope, they just calmly urge us to go to their web site (which I will not plug here). You be the judge. Are YOU a citizen of the United STRAIGHTS of America? Leave a Comment... Chicago UFO Mystery Solved

Were those UFOs over Chicago's northside? We were all excited about the possibility that a fleet of UFOs had been accidentally photographed from the Howard Street CTA train platform in Rogers Park. Readers wrote in. Some disputed it, and said that the "UFOs" in the photo were just reflections of ceiling lights in a window. One reader wrote in and emphatically said they looked just like a sighting that she, her husband and daughter saw recently. One way to solve it: Go to the scene and see it for ourselves. So we did, and here are the photos we took. (Click on images to enlarge them.) First, take a look at the original photos that were taken on Feb. 8, and posted on Flickr by "Quality": http://www.flickr.com/photos/79822180@N00/3264107213/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/79822180@N00/3264932544/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/79822180@N00/3264933262/ The photos below prove that the "UFOs" were indeed reflections in a glass window. The top shows reflections: Ceileng lamps and a trash can. The photos posted by "Quality" did not make it clear that the photos were taken from an enclosed pedestrian overpass, which goes over the tracks in the station. The second photo, however, shows where the photographer must have been standing. Here, we see the trash can reflected in the top photo. The third photo gives a fuller view of the enclosed pedestrian overpass where "Quality" took his/her photos. No doubt about it: The hanging ceiling lamps were reflected in the window. In the fourth photo, we can see the pedestrian overpass. In the fifth photo, another view of the inside of the overpass. Notice the ceiling lamps and trash can. So, no UFO sighting after all. Nevertheless, it was worth pursuing. Plus, we love to prove ourselves wrong. When we're wrong, that is. CNB RSS Feed

UPDATED X2: UFO FLEET OVER CHICAGO? FEB 8, 2009!

UPDATE 2/13/2009: Chicago UFO Mystery Solved WERE THOSE UFO'S OVER CHICAGO? Photographs taken during broad daylight show what look like saucer shaped objects in the blue sky. At least 19 of the objects can be seen in one of three photos posted on Flickr. The pix were taken on February 8, 2009 from the elevated train platform at the Howard Street CTA Station, on the far northeast side of Chicago, on the Evanston border, looking south-southeast. I am very familiar with that train platform, and looking at the photos I am confident that the white objects in the sky cannot be reflections. The images above are cropped excerpts from one of the photos. I enhanced color and contrast on the left image (color); the right image is black and white with a red filter applied. The photographer would have been standing on an open platform, not in any enclosure, so there would have been no window between the camera and the sky. In other words, the white objects are not reflections. I first became aware of the photos today on a friend's blog. She posted the photos, but for some reason chose to use the possible UFOs as a humorous point in an unrelated story. The photos, linked to Flickr, are attributed only to "Quality," who has no profile posted. The links to the photos on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/79822180@N00/3264107213/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/79822180@N00/3264932544/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/79822180@N00/3264933262/ POSTSCRIPT: A reader wrote the following note, followed by my reply. Hi Tom, I guess my skepticism always comes to the fore, when it comes to UFO's :) I know the military always experiment with new types of aircraft, and undetectable secret 'things'!! There just has to be a rational explanation!!! It would be interesting to find out what 'they' are, though. More for curiosity, than a belief in aliens :) Dear Reader: I mean, you could be right that they are not what they appear to be. They might be specks of dust or something on the lense. As for a "rational explanation," what is irrational about the possibility of extraterrestrial beings? Very rational scientists agree on the possibility (probability, really); SETI spends millions of dollars every year listening for intelligent signals from other worlds. A possible rational explanation is alien craft. But then, another rational explanation could be dust specks. We don't know, and that's what the "Unidentified" part of "UFO" means. The "Octopus" UFO

An intriguing UFO mystery in the UK has people buzzing. Hundreds of witnesses claim to have seen flying objects "with tentacles" fly through a wind farm near Louth, Lincolnshire, and one of the wind turbines suffered a badly damaged blade. Some witnesses have said an octopus-shaped UFO was seen flying through the air hours before the turbine was destroyed. One woman said she saw an object fly towards the wind farm, while others described the lights as being linked by "tentacles", leading locals to dub it the octopus UFO. (Source: Telegraph.co.uk) As an expert stated, a "UFO" simply means a flying object that is unidentified. "UFO" does not necessarily mean "extraterrestrial" craft. Some members of the British Ministry of Defence, it is reported, say the mysterious objects might have been drone stealth bombers. But then again, they might have been extraterrestrial craft from Alpha Centauri. I'm just saying. Subscribe to Chicago News Bench

BRIT GOVT TO RELEASE UFO FILES

"MORE than 11,000 UFOs have been sighted in the past 30 years," says The Sun (U.K.). The Sun reports that British government will begine to release its top-secret UFO-related documents and files gradually, over the next four years. Contrast that to the still-tight manner that the U.S. Government treats its UFO files. FULL STORY... RELATED: AIR FORCE: ROSWELL UFO CASE CLOSED

AIR FORCE: ROSWELL UFO CASE CLOSED

The Air Force Times has a great article today about one of the greatest stories in modern American folklore: The Roswell UFOs. Now, whether it really happened or not, and whether or not you're a believer, the Roswell story is fascinating. Fascinating because, well, what if it's true? And if it's not, it's still fascinating to ponder how such a story originated, and then become known by virtually every American and tens of millions worldwide. The report from Air Times begins: June 24, 2008 - Eleven years ago, today, the following story appeared in Air Force Times. For years, people had wondered if U.S. government, and specifically, the Air Force had hidden secrets of a UFO crash in New Mexico. What, the Government hiding secrets? Oh, come now. The article continues: The Air Force wants its June 24 report disproving UFO sightings in Roswell, N.M., to clear up any possible mystery on the subject: The 231-page “Roswell Report” is subtitled “Case Closed.”

Fun stuff, whether you believe or not. FULL ARTICLE...
