Joe Wilson, Model Congressman

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, South Carolina, is the guy who yelled out "liar!" during Liar Obama's speech full 'o lies on Wednesday night. The only thing Wilson did wrong, in my humble opinion, was to apologize for speaking truth afterward, and for that, no apology is due. Wilson's apology: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.” My interpretation of Wilson's apology is simple. He's sorry that he lost his cool. He is not taking back the meaning of what he shouted. He shouldn't. Furthemore, he should have demanded an apology from Obama and the leaders of the Democrat Party for their dispicable behavior since early August, when people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid called Americans opposed to health care reform brownshirts and accused them of being thugs and Nazis. Video: British MPs Have More Backbone Than U.S. Members of Congress Wilson's emotional outburst was the culmination of many weeks of observing the abuse and lies thrown against conservatives in the health care debate nationwide. He has studied the issues. He has read the proposed legislation. His outburst was not some sudden, whimsical idea that popped into his head. He - like millions of us - has known for a long time now that Obama and his party henchmen are indeed lying. When Wilson shouted "lie!" he shouted out truth. For that, Joe Wilson is a model member of Congress. I wish there were hundreds more like him. Video: Fist fight in the Russian Duma That won't happen, of course. Now, moron commenters like "Juliet" are calling Wilson a "dispicable racist." I cannot see anything racist in what Wilson shouted last night. Sure, it could be called rude, but racist? Shame on you, Juliet, you owe Rep. Wilson an apology. Video: Fist Fight in Ukraine Parliament If the Republicans sitting quietly in the Congress last night had any courage, every one of them would have been shouting "liar!" about every two minutes or so. Obama's speech was full of so many inaccuracies and outright, intentional disitortions of truth that I won't even attempt to list them here. You can see links to those who have listed the lies, however, here. Video: Brawl in Taiwan's Parliament Those of you who follow the parliamentary sessions of other nations know that the U.S. Congress is remarkably civil. Sometimes I think it is too civil. When a member stands before the Congress (and this goes for the U.S. Senate, as well), spouting lies and untruths, somebody should stand and call that member out. Perhaps shouting "liar!" is not the best method, but legislators should call for points of information or use other methods of objecting at the moment the lie is mouthed. A man accused of mass murder has the right to object in a court of law. Why shouldn't a member of Congress have the ability - or courage - to object on the floor of our top legislative body? I don't advocate fisticuffs for the U.S. Congress. However, a bit of honest passion and displays of moral outrage, combined with red-in-the-face, veins-about-to-pop screaming now and then would be rather refreshing. It would certainly help C-SPANS sorry ratings, and would also make more Americans actually take an interest in what happens in Congress. But let's get back to Wilson and Obama. The best way to sum this up is with something I found at Hot Air: The culprit was South Carolina rep Joe Wilson, who felt moved to act when [Obama] told what was, in fact, a lie. Although certainly not his biggest of the night: Where this jackass gets off lecturing Americans on civility after his cretinous cronies spent a month demagoging the hell out of every protester in sight is beyond me. You’re Mr. Clean, aren’t you, champ? And bottom-feeders like Harry Reid are your hatchet men. Nice work if you can get it. Cool Hats & Shirts for Cool Conservatives Leave a Comment...
