EU President Calls Obamanomics "Way to Hell"

The whole world will love us after Obama becomes president? HA! The world is laughing at the fool Barack Obama and his idiot Treasury Secretary, too. PARIS — The European Union’s crisis of leadership during the economic downturn was thrown into sharp relief on Wednesday, as the current president of the 27-nation bloc labeled President Obama’s emergency stimulus package “a way to hell” that will “undermine the stability of the global financial market.” Full Story at New York Times... EU Hypocritical On Iran Stoning Executions

Iran executed three people by stoning them to death, a painful and barbaric method of killing. The cowardly, hypocritical fools who run the European Union have issued yet another useless condemnation of the practice. The stoning victim is buried to their neck or shoulders, and stones are then thrown at them. The law actually requires that the stones be of a size capable of inflicting pain but not big enough to kill immediately. In other words, Iranian law requires the torture of those being executed. This is part of shariah law, the laws commanded by Islam. The myopic bureaucrats of the European Union are condemning the stoning executions, as well they should. However, even as the EU condemns a barbaric aspect of shariah law, it is allowing shariah to creep into its own culture and society. The "Islamization" of Europe is well under way. For the EU authorities to condemn Iran, while allowing the expansion of shariah law within Europe, is akin to a man scolding his neighbor for beating his wife even as he himself turns a blind eye to his own wife's abuse of their child. Following is part of a report from Iran Visual News Corps (“IranVNC), an independent online multimedia and interactive news agency with content available in both Persian and English. They are based in Washington, D.C. According to official confirmation and reports from other credible sources, three people were subject to execution by stoning in the city of Mashhad in the week beginning 21 December 2008. One of the three is reported to have managed to escape the stoning pit and survived. The other two were less fortunate and were stoned to death. The European Union requests that the central authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran investigate this issue, and ensure that the practice of execution by stoning is effectively and permanently terminated in the country, in compliance with the International Covenant of Political and Civil Rights, which the Islamic Republic of Iran has signed and ratified, as well as the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons From Being Subjected to Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, as adopted by the UN General Assembly Resolution 3452 of December 1975, which Iran has approved. FULL REPORT... Fools. Asking Iran to "investigate this issue" would be like asking a bank robber to please investigate his most recent heist. "Get back to us with the results of your investigation, won't you Mister Bank Robber? Thanks so much." It is Iran's own laws, based on Islamic religioius doctrine from 1,400 years ago. It is Iran's official policy that people be executed in such medieval ways, so to ask Iran to "investigate this issue" of stoning people to death is ignorant stupidity or, at best, empty posturing. The stoning continues in Iran. The EU wrings its collective hands, but the people of Europe had better get used to it. Today Tehran, tomorrow Brussels. Why We Need More Oil Production

Russia is holding Ukraine hostage to energy blackmail. All of Europe is ultimately threatened by this, and the US has lessons to learn from this. Russia cut off all gas via Ukraine to Europe last week. The EU, which gets a fifth of all its gas supplies via that route, has found itself playing arbiter in a bitter power-play between two ex-Soviet states still acting out a separation. (Reuters) "Energy independence" is something every American can agree on, but just how we achieve it provides a point of disagreement. One camp wants to expand our domestic oil drilling and/or build new nuclear power plants, while the other major camp prefers to abandon petroleum and focus on "alternative" energy sources such as wind, solar, and so on. What the latter camp just doesn't seem to understand is this: It will take decades to bring wind, solar and other alternative sources to a point where they can efficiently replace so-called fossil fuels. With our own off-shore oil available sooner, complimented by shale oil from our friend Canada, we have the opportunity to increase our own petroleum availability and thereby reduce our dependence on unstable, unfriendly nations such as Saudi Arabia and the rest of OPEC. There is nothing short of war that would prevent OPEC from blackmailing the US, in the way Russia is now blackmailing Ukraine, if they wanted to. While we probably cannot become completely independent of other nations for oil in the near future, we can at least reduce the damage that a blackmail action would cause. And, yes, conservation and wiser use of resources is something we should include in the whole equation. To try to replace fossil fuels with alternatives too quickly would be counterproductive. Think of it this way: When the very first trains were being built, the materials for the trains and the factories that made them were transported by horses and wagons. Suppose that there had been an anti-horse movement back then. Suppose that those in that movement said, "Look, we must abandon horses as a source of power because they crap everywhere, causing a stink and increasing the possibility of disease being spread. Furthermore, the horses eat grains that could be used for human consumption." Had such a movement been successful, how would the heavy materials been transported to build the trains? How would be have successfully replaced horse-drawn wagons with the next phase of transportation? We face a similar question today: How can we build solar panels, wind turbines, electric cars and other alternative energy devices if we stop using petroleum as a power source? Not only that, but a lot of the components of those devices are made of plastic and other petroleum products. Petroleum powers the vehicles that haul the parts to make the factories that make those devices. The factories are powered by petroleum. The devices are then transported to market by petroleum powered vehicles. To completely abandon petroleum too soon would be, if you'll pardon my expression, putting the cart before the horse. Ironically, we must increase our domestic drilling for petroleum and production of petroleum products in the short term in order to successfully take us to the next phase. History repeats itself metaphorically. Fossil fuels, whether coal, natural gas or petroleum, are what will make it possible for us to one day abandon those resources as primary sources of energy. Let us make maximum use of it now, while we still have it, to evolve to a higher state of energy production and usage. Subscribe to Chicago News Bench

BRITISH MP ARRESTED: WITHER, MAGNA CARTA?

THE STALIN'S SHADOW IN LONDON: Is this the beginning of a political purge a la Stalin and Lenin? Some say the arrest of British MP Damian Green could signal the beginning of political persecution. Green, a member of the Conservative Party, was arrested for actions connected with his position as an official whistleblower, charged with "leaking" information improperly. The BBC reports: "Conservative sources said a police investigation into a high-ranking politician would have to have been cleared at "the very top" and have described the actions as "Stalinesque".(Source: BBC) The "very top" is Prime Minister Gordon Brown, a member of the liberal Labour Party. The United Kingdom, birthplace of the Magna Carta, that beautiful document that has inspired democratic movements around the world and across centuries for more than 700 years, is becoming a dictatorial anti-free speech tyranny. In 1956, Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister during WWII, described the Magna Carta as "a law which is above the King and which even he must not break." Today, Brown is being accused of abusing his power, and, indeed, the Magna Carter itself. The Magna Carta says, "No freeman shall be taken, imprisoned,...or in any other way destroyed...except by the lawful judgment of his peers, or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to none will we deny or delay, right or justice." The Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution was inspired by that. It says, "No person shall...be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." The flap over Damian Green's arrest is especially band for Brown in the wake of recent polling that shows public confidence in him has sharply dropped. This is tyranny with a smile, but it's a crooked smile with very sharp teeth. You may say I am exaggerating. If so, then so is Iain Martin, writer for the respected Telegraph newspaper in the UK. Martin writes that the arrest of Damian Green is "seriously sinister" and will likely cause a constitutional crisis (emphasis added): This entire episode is quite chilling and the implications of his arrest in connection with information he gathered from a whistle blower (information which was true) are horrendous for parliamentary authority. The encroachment of the Executive and the police on the business of an MP going about his business, who was working to put legitimate information in the public domain, is seriously sinister. (Source: Telegraph.co.uk) Another respected newspaper, The Scotsman, offers the headline, "'Stalin-style' arrest of Tory MP by terror police sparks fury." There are many others who see Stalin's shadow in this story. Bloomberg.com reports that an email from the Conservatives denounced Green's arrest for activities related to his job as the Shadow Immigration Minister (opposition spokesman for immigration): “Mr. Green has, on a number of occasions, legitimately revealed information which the Home Office chose not to make public. Mr. Green denies any wrongdoing and stands by his actions.” (Source: Bloomberg.com) Gordon Brown, of late, has been writing letters to contestants on ITV's X Factor. According to The First Post, "Gordon Brown has been writing individual letters to all 12 of the finalists of ITV's The X Factor. In what could be interpreted as a craven bid togarner favour with the general public, Brown not only wishes each contestant good luck but also offers some criticism of the programme's devisor and notoriously tough judge, Simon Cowell." Will Mr. Brown write a letter to Damian Green, wishing him good luck? Perhaps he will, if his behavior continues to grow more bizarre by the week. RUSSIA'S FIGHTING WORDS

Cold War, Part II. More fallout from Russian aggression in Georgia. Reactions to reactions to reactions. Duck and cover, comrades. Russian news agencies Wednesday quoted a top military officer as warning that Russia could target U.S. missile defenses in Europe with ballistic missiles.... If only President Truman would have let General Patton march to Moscow in 1945, everything would be hunky dory today... Head of strategic missile forces General Nikolai Solovtsov said that Russia could make use of some “counter measures” if the United States goes ahead with plans to place missile defense components in Poland or the Czech Republic, as this could pose a strategic threat to Russia. MORE from Pat Dollard... According to The Hindu newspaper (India), former Soviet slave nations are freaked out by Russia's recent land grab in Georgia. Vladimir Radyuhin writes this for The Hindu: Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Poland had agreed to host the U.S. missile shield as “revenge” on Russia for its military action in Georgia. Washington and Warsaw signed an agreement to base 10 missile interceptors in Poland on August 14, two days after Russia put down Georgia’s military offensive in South Ossetia. MORE at The Hindu... The Hindu also notes: Washington quickly dismissed the Russian draft as a ploy to divert attention from Moscow’s failure to withdraw its troops from Georgia. Mr. Lavrov said the plans of the U.S. and NATO to rearm Georgia showed they had not learnt any lessons from last month’s events. Fingers are pointing, the blame game is on, nothing will be resolved. Various staff writers at spacewar.com touch on that: Washington insists its shield -- endorsed by all 26 NATO member states earlier this year -- is to fend off potential missile attacks by what it calls "rogue states" such as Iran. Moscow says the system is part of an effort to encircle Russia and undermine its nuclear deterrent. MORE from spacewar.com... The reality is that tensions are high between the US and the former USSR. It is also reality that nations such as Poland, brutalized and held in bondage for many decades by Russia (witht help KGB agents such as Vladimir Putin) have asked the US for new weapons systems to ward off possible Russian attacks like we saw recently in Georgia. It's hard to blame those nations. They spent most of the 20th Century under Moscow's iron thumb. They are not eager to repeat that experience. You might want to look around your neighborhood and make a note of any remaining fallout shelters. You know, just in case. Russia as Teacher

Russia, says Alexandros Petersen in the EUObserver today, has taught the West three valuable lessons. Or, at least Petersen says, there are lessons to be learned. However: The West should resist Russia's lesson plan with a multi-pronged strategy of its own. George Bush, Gordon Brown Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy should show solidarity with democratic Georgia by travelling to its capital, Tbilisi, on a very public visit. European Super State

Creepy. Hitler could only dream of this kind of power. And not a shot was fired (unless you consider two world wars and all the wars before them to get Europe to this point). All hail the new Holy Roman Empire! EU leaders have signed a treaty in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, that is expected to greatly alter the way the 27-nation body operates. The treaty creates an EU president and a more powerful foreign policy chief. The document, signed at a ceremony at the city's historic Jeronimos Monastery, also scraps veto powers in many policy areas. Full Story at BBC...

E.U. Reviving the Nuremberg Laws

On this day in 1946, twenty two Nazi leaders were found guilty at the Nuremberg trials for, among many other crimes, the mass extermination of millions of people based purely on their race or ethnicity. The "liberals" of Europe, apparently, are not able to learn from history. Reports "Gates of Vienna" blog, "It appears that a modern EU version of the Nuremberg Laws is being formulated in Europe. A 21st century bureaucratic Brussels equivalent of the Ministry for Racial Purity is under construction." "But this time Europe is following the American model, instead of the Nazi one: instead of the purity of the Herrenvolk, a fair distribution of racial spoils will be the goal."
