Stealing the Vote

Frightening statistics for you to chew on as we get closer to the Presidential Election. Hans A. von Spakovsky writes this in National Review: Amid all the talk of new voters becoming involved in the election, hopefully one group of voters will not vote in November — non-citizens, many of whom are illegally registered to vote all over the country, particularly in the southwest. Although there is no reliable method to determine the exact number registered aliens, there is evidence that this is a significant and growing problem. This, of course, is just fine with Democrats, who hope (correctly) that the majority of illegal aliens will vote for them. von Spakovsky cites Chicago as an example of this huge problem: After a grand-jury investigation of the 1982 Illinois governor’s race resulted in the conviction of aliens for illegally registering and voting, the U.S. Attorney estimated that there were 80,000 non-citizens registered to vote in Chicago. In 1985, the district director of the Immigration and Naturalization Services testified in the Illinois legislature that 25,000 illegal and 40,000 legal aliens remained registered in Chicago. The grand jury found that aliens registered so they could “obtain documents identifying them as U.S. citizens” and had used their voter registration cards “to obtain a myriad of benefits, from social security to jobs with the Defense Department.” .... Similar accounts from other states such as Utah and Arizona demonstrate that this is a widespread phenomena. FULL ARTICLE... Remember, they're just here to work.

Vatican As Hostile Nation

The Vatican is a country, a nation. Its official name (in English) is the "Holy See." Like every other nation, the Vatican has borders. The Vatican defends its borders, which it has a right to do. But the Vatican is telling another nation, the United States, that it should not defend its own borders: A top Vatican official called the Bush administration's plans for hundreds of miles of new security fences on the United States-Mexico border "inhuman." When he was asked specifically about President George W. Bush's plan to sign legislation approving the construction of 700 miles of security fences along the border, Cardinal Martino offered praise for the Catholic bishops in Mexico and the United States who have spoken against it. He called the plan "an inhuman program, which is what the construction of that wall and all others is," according to Reuters. Full Story... Cardinal Martino, who heads the Vatican's Council for Justice and Peace, is a hypocrite. And people are worried about presidential candidate Mitt Romney because he's a Mormon? What about the Catholic Rudy Giuliani? I must have missed all the stories about the Mormons (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) calling for the U.S. give up the right to defend its own borders. If you have a copy of any of those news stories, please forward them to me. Now hold on. I am NOT anti-Catholic. Get me to a Friday fish fry and I'm a happy guy. I am criticizing the Vatican, not individuals who are of the Catholic faith. So cool down. Digger wrote this outstanding headline recently: Vatican Cardinal Decries Border Walls While Standing Behind Vatican Border Walls. An excerpt from Digger's posting: These people want no borders. They do not believe in any nation defending itself - except Vatican City. They would allow terrorists, drug runners, criminals, fraudsters or anyone wanting to do harm to a country to be free to enter it and do so. Here's where the hypocrisy comes in. Cardinal Martino (a prince of the nation of the Vatican), tells us we should not enforce our borders with a wall. But the Vatican has walls. They have the Swiss Guard, which enforces their own walled border. And there are stories such as this: The Vatican's attorney general Nicola Picardi released the astounding statistic at the start of 2007: The tiny nation's justice department in 2006 had to contend with 341 civil and 486 criminal cases. In a population of 492, that measures out to 1.5 cases per person -- twenty times the corresponding rate in Italy. By this measurement at least, crime is soaring in the Vatican in spite of a security force that would put a police state to shame. The seat of the Catholic Church has one Swiss guard for every four citizens, not to mention museum guards and police assigned to the Vatican by Italy. Full Story... Digger, then, asked a reasonable question. Why is it okay for the Vatican to hide behind its walls, with a police force to guard it, but the Vatican can tell us that we cannot have a wall on our southern border? And while we're asking questions, why are so many Liberals so eager to quote the Vatican as an authority on this issue? Will those same Liberals start quoting the Vatican as an authority on abortion issue?

Why Can't U.S. Do This?

TOKYO - Japan hopes to thwart potential terrorists from entering the country by fingerprinting and photographing all foreigners aged 16 or over on entry starting next month, an official said Friday. Only some permanent residents, diplomatic visitors, and children under 16 will be exempt from the measures after the system goes into effect Nov. 20, Immigration Bureau official Takumi Sato said. Enough to Make You Sick

Democrats - and some Republicans, to be sure - are being very hypocritical about the current "scare" over tuberculosis (TB). A case in point: U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa, who is pretending to be a tough guy. Harkin, you see, is going to roll up the sleeves on his fitted shirt and ask tough questions about the TB guy that almost got away. Oh yes, tough questions. It's all make believe. It's a put on, a sham, an act for the idiots who voted for him. Harkin, who is so very upset over a single individual who entered the country with TB, is also man working very hard on laws that make it easier for thousands upon thousands of TB cases to walk right into the country, completely undetected. Harkin's voting record on immigration, however, is a bad joke. He has voted time after time after time in favor of amnesty in some form or another. He has voted against increased funding for border patrols. One example (out of many): Sen. Harkin voted against the Ensign Amendment (SA 1219) to H.R. 2360, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill. The Ensign Amendment transfers appropriated funds from the Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the purpose of hiring 1,000 additional Border Patrol agents. The amendment failed, vote of 38 to 60. (Source)

Senator'furious' over TB case by BOB DEANS in Washington, ALISON YOUNG in Denver A "furious" Sen. Tom Harkin is planning to ask tough questions today about how an Atlanta man was able to travel abroad while infected with a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis, his spokesman said. Julie Gerberding, director of the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Fulton County health director Steven Katkowsky are to testify before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that oversees funding for the CDC.

Harkin (D-Iowa) chairs the panel. At the same time, Gerberding's chief aide on global migration and quarantine issues, Martin Cetron, is scheduled to testify before the House Committee on Homeland Security.

Somebody needs to sit Senator Harkin down - strapped to a chair, if need be - and ask him a lot of "tough questions." Why, for example, his voting record on immigration has been one long train of ignoring the health threats and security threats to this nation, even after 9/11 and even with full knowledge of the health risks that accompany unregulated immigration.

Of Security and Lunacy, a Must-Read

Jim Pinkerton, columnist for Newsday, wrote an must-read op-ed. Weak on security By James P. Pinkerton Here are two reasons the American people don’t trust the federal government to keep them secure — and why the immigration deal is likely to fail, cracking up on the rocks of public mistrust. Consider the case of Andrew Speaker, the tort lawyer turned TB carrier. Diagnosed in January with a dangerous, drug-resistant form of tuberculosis, the Atlantan was warned against flying but flew around the world anyway, potentially jeopardizing millions.... So here’s a question: Why does DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff still have his job? His one talent seems to be as a Washington operator, keeping the lid on embarrassing inspector general reports. You Are Paying $800 Per Day

County health chief: Fly illegals back home Think of your mother, your brother, your neighbor. Imagine that they need long-term health care. Now imagine that there is no bed available for them, because their own tax dollars - and yours, friend - are paying for luxurious, long-term care for people who broke the law to get into this country. How would you feel? Oh, you may say, people are people and we should help everyone. News flash, pal: We cannot afford to help everyone. Rich as this nation is, we do not have a giant farm full of free-range golden egg geese. This story from the March 25 edition of the Chicago Sun-Times is disturbing on several levels: - Your tax dollars are paying to support people who should be getting this kind of service from their own nations' tax dollars; - They are, in effect, being rewarded for having broken the law by entering the U.S. illegally in the first place; - They are taking away beds that may be needed by people here legally - those of us born here or who entered legally through the system; - You may one day not get a bed because someone who is here illegally has that bed. Excerpts from the Sun-Times story: Dr. Robert Simon, chief of Cook County health services, says the county should fly illegal immigrants living at Oak Forest Hospital back to the countries they came from. "We're giving luxury service in a setting like a park," Simon said in an interview Friday, referring to the acres of grass and trees on the sprawling campus. "We've got undocumented aliens that are living there like that." The hospital is home to 20 to 30 illegal immigrants who are profoundly disabled, Horacio Esparza of the Progress Center for Independent Living estimated. Esparza shows a total disregard for legal residents who have profound disabilities. Should we send legal residents with similar medical challenges to Mexico or Belize or China or any other country for treatment if a bed is not available here? "This isn't just transportation," Esparza said. "There's services. There's medical issues. They are from rural areas in their countries. There's no accessibility, no medical treatments. That's totally not acceptable." And what about legal residents "from rural areas?" The county does not receive any state or federal reimbursement for patients who are not citizens or legal residents. "What I'm saying is, our primary concern has to be to the taxpayers and the citizens," Simon said. "There are people that have been there for 10, 20 years," Simon said. "You as a citizen are paying for that at $800 a day." There is a limit to kindness. It is usually recognizable when blood starts spurting from your own veins.

The Final Days of Freedom, continued

Judicial Watch has obtained details of SPP border management and travel recommendations. They released them today. High level officials from Mexico, Canada and the United States are crafting policy recommendations under the auspices of the Security and Prosperity Partnership that could have a significant impact on the lives of American citizens. And, to date, there has been very little oversight,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The ‘One Card’ concept is a new wrinkle which cries out for further investigation.” Full Article... Nifonging the U.S. Border Patrol

Yes, I'm using "nifong" as a verb, in the same way one might say that a politician has been "borked." Remember those two U.S. border agents who allegedly shot a Mexican drug dealer in the butt while he ran back into Mexico? Seems they are being nifonged. Briefly: Nifong is the slimy prosecutor who tried to lynch those Duke lacrosse players without even hearing their side of the story. (He is now being prosecuted for a number of reasons, all connected to his mishandling of the case.) A similar injustice may be landing hard on two U.S. Border Patrol employees. In a shocking revelation by Jerome Corsi at WorldNetDaily on February 6, it is reported that a "Department of Homeland Security official admitted today the agency misled Congress when it contended it possessed investigative reports proving Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean confessed guilt and declared they 'wanted to shoot some Mexicans' prior to the incident that led to their imprisonment." This was, we now know, a fabrication. It was a lie, undoubtedly motivated by politics. It's a nifong. The story continues: "The admission came during the testimony of DHS Inspector General Richard L. Skinner before the Homeland Security Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, according to Michael Green, press secretary for Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas."
