Update 2: WLS's Don Wade Gets Chemo, Radiation After Brain Surgery

UPDATE, Dec. 14, 2012 - Sorry to see that Don Wade and Roma have decided to not return to morning drive duties at WLS-AM 890. It's understandable, though, as the stress would be difficult for Don, who is still on the mend after surgery for a brain tumor. It's the end of an era for Chicago radio.

Oct. 13, 2012 - WLS-AM (890) morning talk man Don Wade, 71, "will undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments following his recent surgery to remove a growth from his brain, according to a statement released Wednesday," reports Robert Federer at TimeOut Chicago. He will get a six-week course of chemo and radiation, to begin the week of October. 14.

Previous Post, Oct. 2, 2012:
Don Wade had "succesful" brain surgery on Thursday, Sept. 27.  The surgery reportedly went well for Don, 71 - the male half of the Don Wade and Roma show - and he is now recovering at home. He was released from the hospital on Saturday, Sept. 29. Don had a seizure on Sept. 13, and the surgery was performed to remove "a growth," possibly a brain tumor. (See previous report.)

"Don came out of it really well," said the Wade's agent Eliot Ephraim, reports Robert Feder at Time Out Chicago. The Don Wade and Roma show is broadcast live from 5-9:00 a.m., Monday-Friday. Send  get-well wishes to Don by email to getwelldon@gmail.com or by slowmail:

WLS Morning Man Don Wade To Have Brain Surgery

Don Wade and Roma (wlsam.com)
UPDATE, OCT. 2: Don Wade is recovering at home after successful brain surgery. More...

Sept. 25, 2012 - We are praying for the speedy recovery of WLS's Don Wade, the male half of the extremely popular Don Wade & Roma Show in Chicago, to pull through his health nightmare. After suffering a seizure on Sept. 13, Don will have surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. The surgery is scheduled for this Thursday. Don Wade is 71 years old.

TrueNewsUSA noted yesterday that "Don Wade, the popular conservative Republican leaning host of the morning show on WLS AM 890, will be off the air for at least a month, to receive treatment for a growth on his brain, the station announced on its website."  Don and wife Roma have been hosting the show for more than 20 years on WLS 890 AM.

Here is an excerpt from a statement released yesterday by WLS Radio:

"Don Wade had a seizure while traveling last week. After a series of tests, doctors discovered a growth on his brain. He is having surgery this week to remove the growth. Recovery from the surgery will keep Don off the air for at least four weeks. Don and Roma remain positive and optimistic..."

Send well-wishes to Don and Roma by email to getwelldon@gmail.com or by U.S. Post to:

While Don Wade is out on medical leave, the show will be hosted by self be-clowned Bruce Wolf and his anal retentive, pompous sidekick, "Cicero" Dan Proft. Why WLS allows its airwaves to be tainted by the likes of an oily weasel like Proft, who "allegedly" bullies women, is a mystery. Apparently, the management at WLS has no problem with those issues, or with the possible ethics problems of one of their talk show hosts "raising campaign funds for a second statewide political bid for governor while he is promoting himself on Chicago radio."

Is Alderman Joe Moore a "Tool of Hamas?"

Some of the anti-Semitism sweeping Europe and North America has struck in Chicago in recent days, especially on the city's north side. In light of that, a flashback to May of 2008 seems appropriate. 50th Ward Alderman Bernard Stone (photo, right) called 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore (photo, below left) an "ignorant cry baby" who is "a tool of Hamas." Stone made his remarks in a live telephone interview with morning hosts "Don and Roma" on WLS 890 AM (photo, below right). FLASHBACK to May 15, 2008: Alderman Bernard Stone called Alderman Joe Moore an ignorant cry baby who is a tool of Hamas. Speaking live by phone on WLS 890 AM this morning with morning hosts Don Wade and Roma about the humiliating defeat of his two-year old foie gras ban, Moore said that the Chicago City Council has "lost even the pretense of a democracy." Moore went on to embarass himself for nearly 10 minutes. Hear the full Moore interview (6.6 mb mp3 file.) IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING MOORE'S PHONE INTERVIEW, 50th Ward Alderman Bernie Stone was interviewed.Stone, on the phone, said Moore was a "cry baby" who doesn't know proper procedure for City Council meetings. Stone said that had Moore followed procedure, he could have spoken, but Daley called the vote without Moore doing what was required. But that's not all that Stone said.Moore is a "tool of Hamas," Stone said. Stone said the particular anti-war resolution that Moore was proposing would serve as a propaganda tool for Hamas, which is sworn to destroy Israel. The end result of the exchange between Moore and Don Wade, then Stone and Don Wade, is that Joe Moore was painted as a boob who does not understand City Council procedures, is a cry baby who is whining about losing a battle, and he's a useful idiot for anti-American interests. MOORE MAKES FOOL OF SELF ON RADIO

Alderman Joe Moore put another nail in the coffin of his political career this morning. (Are you paying attention, Howard Dean?)

Speaking live by phone on WLS 890 AM this morning with morning hosts Don Wade and Roma about the humiliating defeat of his two-year old foie gras ban, Moore said that the Chicago City Council has "lost even the pretense of a democracy." Hear the full interview (6.6 mb mp3 file.)

The 49th Ward Alderman complained that Mayor Daley did not turn on his microphone in yesterday's council meeting, thereby shutting him down. "How did the Mayor cut off your microphone?" Wade asked Moore.

Moore said that a technician only turns on Council members' microphones when they are called on by the Mayor. Moore's microphone never went on, he said, "because the Mayor never recognized me."

He also complained that Daley did not follow parliamentary procedure. Moore then went off on a tangent, starting to tell Don and Roma about his resolution that calls for the United States to "never invade Iran."

"Excuse me," said Wade, "what is the City Council of Chicago doing, voting on whether or not the United States of America is going to invade another country?"

"Well, I'll tell you exactly why," said Moore, and he then rattled off dollar figures related to the war effort in Iraq.

"Alderman, Alderman, stop," moaned Wade, exasperated, trying to interrupt. Moore kept babbling on. "Please," said Moore, "it isn't the purview of the City Council of Chicago to decide whether we invade another country."

Roma changed the subject suddenly. "So when are you going to run for Congress or for Senate?"

Moore danced around that question. "I think my Congressman's job is safe," he said, "and the U.S. Senators' jobs are safe as well." And then he veered right back into the antiwar resolution. "To suggest that we should embark on yet another war….is a folly."

And then a surprise came for the audience.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING MOORE'S PHONE INTERVIEW, 50th Ward Alderman Bernie Stone was interviewed.

Stone, on the phone, said Moore was a "cry baby" who doesn't know proper procedure for City Council meetings. Stone said that had Moore followed procedure, he could have spoken, but Daley called the vote without Moore doing what was required. But that's not all that Stone said.

Moore is a "tool of Hamas," Stone said.
He said the particular anti-war resolution that Moore was proposing would serve as a propaganda tool for Hamas, which is sworn to destroy Israel.

The end result of the exchange between Moore and Don Wade, then Stone and Don Wade, is that Joe Moore was painted as a boob who does not understand City Council procedures, is a cry baby who is whining about losing a battle, and he's a useful idiot for anti-American interests.

For Alderman Joe Moore to complain about a lack of democratic procedure in the City Council is the height of hypocrisy. Moore is notorious in his 49th Ward for closed zoning meetings, often ignoring the wishes of constituents, and for alleged voter fraud and allegedly shaking down local developers.

FLASHBACK: Mayor Daley Calls Alderman Moore Incompetent

Agar the Magnificent

Jerry Agar is a rising star. You may not know him yet, but he's a guy to watch. He follows the popular Don Wade and Roma on WLS-AM 890 here in Chicago (from 9 to 11 a.m.), but that blow torch gets his voice out over most of the Midwest. Agar also does fill-in duty for national talk show hosts, too, such as a recent stint filling in for the nationally syndicated Mark Levin Show. This morning, Agar talked about the ongoing battle to keep the Children's Museum from moving into protected Grant Park. On his own blog, Agar writes that he and his production staff "attempted to get the Chicago Aldermen to state their position on whether or not the Children's Museum should be allowed to relocate to Grant Park." They called each Chicago alderman more than once, and you can see the results at Agar's blog. He urges his listeners and readers to "Call the aldermen yourself, especially those who didn't call us back and give your opinion." IT'S "BURMA," NOT "MYANMAR" Prior to Agar this morning, Don Wade talked about Burma, and why those in the American media insist on calling it "Myanmar." We shouldn't, said Wade, because the name was changed by executive fiat nearly 20 years ago by the military junta, without it being voted on. That's the same group that's denying international aid from coming into Burma to help millions of people suffering from the effects of the recent cyclone that killed over 100,000 people. According to the CIA World Fact Book, "Despite multiparty legislative elections in 1990 that resulted in the main opposition party - the National League for Democracy (NLD) - winning a landslide victory, the ruling junta refused to hand over power." The opposition parties in Burma still call the country "Burma," not "Myanmar," and "Burma" is the accepted colloquial name used by most Burmese people. The name "Myanmar" has been recognized mainly by a few neighboring countries, but mostly by Communist countries such as China and Russia. "Burma" is still the name officially recognized by most Western democracies, because they know that "Myanmar" is a name imposed on the country by a vicious, tyrannical military junta. To call it "Burma" is to symbolically oppose those tyrants. So why do the American media call it "Burma?" My own theory: To sound hip and worldly. Think National Public Radio, for example. How many times have you heard an announcer on NPR pronounce "Mexico" as "May-hee-koh," or "Chile" as "Chee-lay?" Now, how often have you heard an announcer on NPR refer to Germany as "Bundesrepublik Deutschland," or pronounce "France" as "Frahnce?" (And by the way, I'll start pronouncing "Mexico" like a Mexican as soon as everyone in Mexico starts calling us "The United States" and not "Los Estados Unidos.") They try so hard to sound worldly, but media do it selectively. The communist nations call it "Myanmar," so NPR and other media trendyites think it's cool to do so as well. But what these media idiots do not understand is that calling the country "Myanmar" is to give a little bit of legitimacy to the military dictators there - the ones the same media are reporting about now, about the injustices and horrors being inflicted on the Burmese people. So quick to be trendy, so slow to be correct, that's the mainstream media for you. RELATED: WLS 890 AM Chicago
