WLS Morning Man Don Wade To Have Brain Surgery

Don Wade and Roma (wlsam.com)
UPDATE, OCT. 2: Don Wade is recovering at home after successful brain surgery. More...

Sept. 25, 2012 - We are praying for the speedy recovery of WLS's Don Wade, the male half of the extremely popular Don Wade & Roma Show in Chicago, to pull through his health nightmare. After suffering a seizure on Sept. 13, Don will have surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. The surgery is scheduled for this Thursday. Don Wade is 71 years old.

TrueNewsUSA noted yesterday that "Don Wade, the popular conservative Republican leaning host of the morning show on WLS AM 890, will be off the air for at least a month, to receive treatment for a growth on his brain, the station announced on its website."  Don and wife Roma have been hosting the show for more than 20 years on WLS 890 AM.

Here is an excerpt from a statement released yesterday by WLS Radio:

"Don Wade had a seizure while traveling last week. After a series of tests, doctors discovered a growth on his brain. He is having surgery this week to remove the growth. Recovery from the surgery will keep Don off the air for at least four weeks. Don and Roma remain positive and optimistic..."

Send well-wishes to Don and Roma by email to getwelldon@gmail.com or by U.S. Post to:

WLS-AM190
Get Well Don!
North State Street, 9th Floor
Chicago, Illinois 60601

While Don Wade is out on medical leave, the show will be hosted by self be-clowned Bruce Wolf and his anal retentive, pompous sidekick, "Cicero" Dan Proft. Why WLS allows its airwaves to be tainted by the likes of an oily weasel like Proft, who "allegedly" bullies women, is a mystery. Apparently, the management at WLS has no problem with those issues, or with the possible ethics problems of one of their talk show hosts "raising campaign funds for a second statewide political bid for governor while he is promoting himself on Chicago radio."

Does Dan Proft NOT Know Our National Anthem's Lyrics?

September 1, 2010 - Everybody at the big fundraiser for Joel Pollak today sang the national anthem, even the wait staff.

Dan Proft, 2010
Well, almost everybody. Dan Proft, a well-known politician, didn't seem to know any of the lyrics. Shame on him, on the eve of the 196th anniversary of the writing of the "The Star-Spangled Banner." Francis Scott Key began writing in on the night of Sept. 13, 1814 and finished it the next day.

There were 400 people there who paid good money to hear Joel Pollak talk about his campaign against Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (9th District, IL), as well as to hear the dynamic Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). Ryan recently endorsed Pollak in his bid for Congress.

Prior to Pollak and Ryan being introduced, a great welcome speech was given by Leah Reicin, Hadassah National Board member and Youth Aliyah Chair. Reicin was a plenary speaker at the 2nd Annual United Nations Youth Assembly recently. While she was speaking, some of the protesters who were outside decided to come inside and crash the fundraiser (more on that here). She was aware of the momentary scuffle but didn't miss a beat and carried to introduce soprano Magaly Cordero (photo, right), who sang "The Star-Spangled Banner," our national anthem.

We all know that song. It's the one they sing before somebody yells "play ball!" at a ballgame. It's that song that many of us have trouble learning, but all of us know by time we've had our first beer at the ball park. Sure, most of us only know the first verse (there are four verses), but by golly we sing it as best we can and with chests swelling with pride.

Not Dan Proft, not today, not at the Pollak luncheon, not at Table 39.

Why, then, did Dan Proft not sing one single lyric of our national anthem? Sure, he put his hand over his heart as is the respectful custom. But as 400 people around him, including everyone at Table 39, sang every word of the anthem, Proft's lips did - not - move. Not once.

It was weird. Proft is a guy who paints himself as Mister Conservative and Holier-Than-Thou, and to listen to him give a speech you'd think he was some kind of super patriot. Why, then, did he not sing along with everyone else? Did he never learn the song? Did he forget the words? He has an acceptable, if tinny, speaking voice, but perhaps he's embarrassed that he cannot carry a tune. That's just a theory, of course; I've never heard Dan Proft attempt to sing.

No, wait just a cotton pickin' minute... There was that weird song and dance act he did back before the February 2010 primaries in Illinois. (What was that about? I forget.) Anyway, as a service to Dan Proft, here is the karaoke version of The Star-Spangled Banner. I suggest that he download it to his iPhone and carry it with him to the next ballgame.

Happy Father's Day, Dan Proft

Being a father is a sacred trust and a blessing from God. Being a father is not just a joyful responsibility. Actually having a father and knowing him, having him be a part of your life, is also a blessing. What a shameful thing it is for a man to ignore a child that is his. Dan Proft knows this first hand, so we wish him a special "happy Father's Day."

One of Dan Proft's favorite sayings is, "We need to invest in families." I'm sure he means time and love, in addition to other peoples' tax dollars. Proft frequently says that we should all "respect life." He means that he's anti-abortion, of course, but I'm so sure that he also means that children who are already born and leading their young lives should be respected, too, and that their fathers should be there at every step of the way. To merely allow someone to be born and then to abandon them, after all, is not very respectful.

Dan Proft is the guy who placed sixth in the Illinois Republican primary for governor back in February. He claims to a "conservative" and is even referred to (although often with snickering) as "the ultra-conservative Dan Proft." Proft calls himself an "unapologetic conservative." As such, I'm sure, he knows and cherishes the meaning of being a good father. He was an adopted child, after all, and therefore knows first hand just how horrible it is for a child to not have one's real father in his or her life.

"Our most important right is the right to life," Proft said on his campaign website. "A respect for life means more than defending the unborn, it requires us to serve those born to disadvantageous circumstances and to find them loving homes for them. Thirty-seven years ago, I was adopted by parents who made the choice to welcome me into a loving, caring home. There are many children today who need stable homes, and those children, and the families that welcome them will have no stronger advocate in the governor’s office than me. According to the Dave Thomas Foundation, 60% of Americans have been personally touched by adoption. I am glad to say that I am a product of that happiness today."

As a student of social trends and current affairs, Dan Proft must be well aware of the fact that growing up without a father is one of the leading causes of juvenile deliquency and, later, a life of crime and/or academic failure. That's not to say, of course, that all fatherless children turn out bad, but the fact is that a disproportionately high number of them do.

Proft promised that - if elected governor - a Proft Administration would "Defend life from conception to natural death." I'm oh-so-sure that he must have also meant that a good father would do that for his own child, and not just leave that sacred duty to the government - or anybody else.

I'll bet that Dan Proft, as a Christian and a conservative, remains celibate and would never think of sleeping around. No sir, not Dan Proft. He's pure as the driven snow, you know, and that's why you should hang on his every word, whether he's speaking at a VFW hall or as a regular commentator and talk show host on WLS 890 AM.

Proft noted that it "is entirely natural for parents to want the best education possible for their children." Not just education, of course. I'm very certain that Dan Proft means that parents want the best of everything possible for their children. I'm sure that if he had a beautiful young daughter he'd want the best for her. Proft would want to see her grow up, to make sure she's studying, getting along well with other kids, dreaming the right kind of dreams, setting the right kind of goals. If Dan Proft had a daughter (hypothetically, of course) he'd be proud to publicly escort her to the opera and show her off. He'd want to be at her high school and college graduations, and eventually to walk her down the aisle at her wedding. If he had a son (again, hypothetically), Proft would want to play ball with him, do the graduation routines, and teach him to treat women with respect and dignity, and to always do the right thing. Right?

So, happy Father's Day to Dan Proft, a guy whose biological father was not in his life but was fortunate enough to be adopted into a loving household with both a mother figure and a father figure. See how well Dan Proft turned out? He's an inspiration to all of us, no? Remember: Any animal can sire a litter of offspring. It takes a real man to be a dad. I have no doubt that Dan Proft, and you and I, will remember our fathers - our dads - on Sunday, June 20.

"To a father growing old nothing is dearer than a daughter." ~Euripides

Bully Dan Proft Sics His Lawyer On Me...

My May 8, 2010 post about Dan Proft has been removed involuntarily and under threat of legal action. Dan Proft did not like what I posted about him, and he had a lawyer send a letter to me demanding that I remove it (see it below).

I'll play Proft's silly little game - for now. All of the original text of that post has been removed, and the headline altered. I believe that to be in compliance with the spirit of the letter from Proft's attorney. All that remains there is a note that the post was deleted, with a link to this post. The html code for that May 8 post has been saved. So now, we watch and wait. The code is ready to be reinstalled at a moment's notice.

Ironically, the story that this deleted post is based on continues to develop, and I didn't start it. We only reported the startling claims of another person against an important Illinois political figure. Late this evening (May 10, 2010), that person (our source) said that Proft has not demanded that she remove her post from her Facebook page, which was posted before my May 8 blog post. Although the attorney's letter demanded that I remove the post right away (although you'll notice she did not give any deadline), she agreed by phone this afternoon to give me until midnight tonight. (It is now 11:58 p.m. by my clock.)

Her letter, below, is filled with bizarre assumptions and wild misinterpretations of the post. (Out of concern for my legal situation, comments will not be accepted on this post at this time.)

WVON Radio to Interview Tea Party Patriots on Monday, April 19

Steve Stevlic, the man behind Tea Party Patriots Chicago, and super blogger Kathy Barkulis will be on WVON 1690 AM in Chicago with Matt and Perri on Monday, April 19 at 7:00 a.m. to discuss the Chicago Tax Day Tea Party and more. You can listen live at http://wvon.com/.

Last year's Tax Day Tea Party got a lot of criticism, and Andrew Marcus at Breitbart's BigJournalism.com noted in March, 2010 that there were problems with the organization in 2009. Enter Steve Stevlic, 2010: He's cleaning up the city's Tea Party scene. The rogue "Chicago Tea Patriots" have been pushed aside and are now an outcast rogue group. Stevlic's organization, "Tea Party Patriots Chicago," is more into promoting the cause of liberty and reform than the previous group was.

Not all of the problems were directly due to the Chicago Tea Patriots, however. Dan Proft, former candidate for Illinois governor, deserves much of the blame. "The first Tea Party demonstration was co-opted by Dan Proft, a political consultant in Cicero, IL," wrote HillBuzz, "who makes a lot of money off that city by billing repeatedly for the same PR services, using a redundancy scheme where he gets paid once for publicizing City Hall or the town park, then gets a second check for 'doing PR work' for the street those buildings are on."  Proft is also a frequent commentator on WLS 890 AM, although only God and their management knows why.

Andrew Marcus, HillBuzz and others have engaged in hyperbole in pronouncing the Tea Party movement in Chicago as "collapsed." It went through some rough spots and growing pains in its first year. Now in its second year, the steady stewardship of Steve Stevlic of his Tea Party Patriots Chicago shows great promise. (They are under the umbrella of the statewide Illinois Tea Party Patriots.) After all, the April 15, 2010 Tax Day Tea Party at Daley Plaza was a smashing success. Dan Proft, it should be noted, was not in attendance this year.

Dan Proft Challenged Me and Chickened Out

Proft: Big Mouth, Small Spine

On December 7, 2009, I intentionally baited Dan Proft on Twitter (transcript below). He bit, and swallowed. He's been caught lying, and now he's frantically denying.

The issue: Proft's past statements about our federal immigration laws, which he characterized as immoral. The statements came in an article he wrote for La Raza and which he read on-air at WLS 890 AM. With his own words out there, Proft boldly denies them. (For more information and background, see "Dan Proft is Pro-Amnesty for Illegals." Also see "No se puede, Dan Proft" at Cao’s Blog.)

Proft's own words: "'It's the law' is not a moral defense to laws that are immoral. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was 'the law' and it was wrong. National origins quotas aimed at stemming the tide of southern and eastern European immigrants was 'the law' on immigration until 1965 and it was wrong."

This is not the first time that Proft has been caught telling untruths. Illinois Reason ran a post called "Dan Proft caught fibbing ’bout fact-checking…" in May, 2008. It's a good read, with video. No doubt Proft denies that he said what he can be seen saying in that video.

His responses to my questions and remarks were undiplomatic, rude and dishonest, and unbefitting a candidate for statewide office. My own remarks, admittedly, are not characteristic of someone you’d vote for for governor. Fortunately for you, I’m not running for governor. Unfortunately, Dan Proft is (also see "Dan Proft's Reality Dysfunction").

The Twitter Transcript

Note: “Adam A.” refers to Adam Andrzejewski, another Republican running for governor. The so-called “flunkie” [sic] that Proft refers to is Robert Moon, who wrote “Dan Proft's pro-amnesty La Raza article” on Nov. 7, 2009.

ChiNewsBench: Hey Dan Proft, why do you disrespect our national sovereignty and immigration laws? http://bit.ly/4RUxqN @DanProft

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench Hey Tom Mannis, I don't. Check your facts. Read the response I sent u instead of blindly posting lies from an Adam A. flunkie

DanProft: @TeaTephi I don't. Try not to take the bait put out by a flunkie for Adam A. who is lying about my views

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft - You deny your own spoken words?!? How can we trust a candidate who disowns his own recorded words???

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft Adam A. did not speak those words, Mr. Proft. YOU did. Get outa the race now. Shame on you.

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft - Your own pro-amnesty rant is on YOUR company's website, and you have the gall to deny it?

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft "Read the response I sent u..." Uhm, Dan, did you hit "send" on that response yet? You've sent me NOTHING.

Note: At this point, I was unaware of the response he sent. The conversation began (and continued) on Twitter. The response that Proft refers to above was sent to me via Facebook, although he did not alert me to that. So, he told me ro read a response that I was unaware of, and had sent to me in a different forum.

ChiNewsBench: Don't let @DanProft deny his own pro-illegal immigrant words, try though he might. 7:34 PM Dec 7th from web

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft: Here's an idea 4U - Debate your own recorded pro-amnesty speech from WLS-AM.

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench hilarious. - December 07, 2009, 10:32:57 PM

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench thanks for the tip. what a discovery a commentary on my website. I'm familiar with it and with hacks like you who distort - December 07, 2009, 10:33:42 PM

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench look on Facebook. - December 07, 2009, 10:33:58 PM

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench I have a better one; I'll challenge you. Another coward like Robert Moon who can only take shots but cannot engage - December 07, 2009, 10:34:50 PM

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench one more idea: take a remedial reading comprehension course and then we can debate what I wrote vs. your distortion of it

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft - You're either a lousy liar or simply deranged. One need not be able to read to hear what you said.

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft - Dude, the "tip" was not meant for you. It was meant for all those who are not yet aware of your inner RINO.

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft Can't engage? LOL! You're actually debating yourself by denying what is in writing and audio. You bore me now. Over, out.

DanProft: @ChiNewsBench Sigh, it is futile to talk to black helicopter folks like you.You hear/read only what you can assimilate-and that ain't much.

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft - I accept your challenge. Meet me at the end of Navy Pier, 3:00 am, alone. No weapons. Just hand to hand. You on?

ChiNewsBench: @DanProft - Or would you seriously challenge me to a debate? All I have to do is bring an MP3 player and loop your own pro-illegal rant.

ChiNewsBench: @danproft Define the challenge, sir. The ball is in your court.

DanProft: @caoilfhionn1 hysterical...what we are "seeing" are those destructive people within the conservative movement that keep us chasing our tails

DanProft: @TeaTephi No I did not write that immigration law in general is amoral or immoral

DanProft: @TeaTephi Again, I did not write that immigration laws in general are either immoral OR amoral.

There you go. Proft challenged me and I accepted, asking him to "define the challenge." He never did. All bark and no bite.

After reading the above, imagine Proft as governor. Now imagine him responding to really tough questions from big media reporters. Would he accuse them of being “flunkies?” Would he lie about past statements, denying words he wrote and spoke, as he did above?

Proft has not followed up on his “challenge” to me, although I wrote that I accepted. Is he a coward, or simply afraid of his words and lies being further exposed?

Dan Proft’s “response” to me, via Facebook, December 7 at 1:54pm

Note: He continues the bizarre denial of his own words.

Tom,

Absolutely, 100& [sic] false. I am not nor have I ever been a proponent of amnesty. Completely ridiculous and being promoted by Mr. Moon, a flak for Adam A's campaign because they cannot deal with me on the merits.

My positions as oft repeated:

- I do not and have never supported amnesty in theory or in legislation.

- I oppose sanctuary city designations

- I oppose the extension of rights and benefits reserved for American citizens and those otherwise here legally to those not here illegally. In fact, to my knowledge I am the only candidate who has talked about doing a complete redetermination of Medicaid to rescind coverage extended by Blagojevich through All Kids to persons here illegally.

- I support e-verify so that employers may check the status of prospective employees to ensure they can legally work here.

The good news from the silliness of the preposterous mischaracterization of my views is that it is so obviously false as to be completely without credibility and readily identifiable as such (at least to those interested in ascertaining the truth as opposed to simply pushing someone else's agenda).

Regards,

Dan Proft

The question must be asked: Was Dan Proft preposterously mischaracterizing his own position two years ago, or is he preposterously mischaracterizing today?
