Ald. Joe Moore's Dead-Beat Sugar Daddy Arrested (Updated)

Cedomir "Chad" Zuric Mug Shot
Cedomir Zuric's mugshot
UPDATE: This six-year old story recently took a sudden dramatic turn in March, 2014.  Fugitive Cedomir Zuric, 52, was arrested for over $500,000 in past due child support payments. He was wanted since 2008. While Zuric was busy shirking his child support debts, he was doling out huge money to Chicago's 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore. In return, Moore supported a controversial zoning change that Zuric wanted very much.

"A tip led Cook County deputies to a North Side man who owes more than half-a-million dollars in overdue child support," reported Lincoln Square Patch on March 26. "The sheriff's department warrant unit arrested Cedomir Zuric, 52, on Friday after learning he was staying at a residence in the 4300 block of North Clarendon Avenue. Zuric owes $555,876 in past due child support payments for three children. A warrant was issued for his arrest in 2008. Zuric's last known address was in the 5700 block of North Lincoln Avenue. Zuric posted a $23,462.24 cash bond and was released from jail." Zuric was due in court on April 3.

Earlier Post, July 30, 2008 - 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore took big money from dead-beat dad Cedomir Zuric. We therefore DEMAND Moore Return Campaign Contributions from Dead-Beat Dad

We the citizens of Rogers Park DEMAND that Alderman Joe Moore IMMEDIATELY turn over ALL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS from dead-beat dad Cedomir Zuric (a.k.a. Chad Zuric) to the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services toward partial retirement of Zuric's $400,000 child support arrears. (Search for "Zuric Cedomir" at Cook County Recorder of Deeds website.)

Moore abused his office by accepting $14,500 from a dead-beat dad posing as a real estate developer in exchange for Moore's support for a lucrative zoning change and the demolition of the former Adelphi Theater, all the while knowing full well the beneficiary owed $400,000 in child support payments.

Heather Steans Gets New Contribution from Health Insurance Company

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, January 12, 2010 Steans’ Health Care “Reform” earns her more money from Heath Insurance Companies “We’ve seen at the national level that health insurance companies use their political contributions to buy influence and derail real reform. What kind of “reform” did Sen. Steans push through that earned her $1,500 more from a major health insurance company?” -Jim Madigan CHICAGO: On Friday, January 7th, Heather Steans received yet another big contribution from Humana PAC. Steans reported accepting $1,500 from the political committee funded by Humana health insurance. Steans accepted the health insurance money just one day after a public forum in which she chastised some of her Senate colleagues for “having a lot of connections to the insurance industry.” During the January 6th forum, Steans also touted her sponsorship of recently passed health insurance regulation (H.B. 3923), saying that health insurance companies “are not happy at all with the bill we pushed through” and “fought against us tooth and nail the entire time.” Steans’ challenger for the Democratic nomination for 7th District State Senate, Jim Madigan responded to Steans today: “We’ve seen at the national level that health insurance companies use their political contributions to buy influence and derail real reform. What kind of “reform” did Sen. Steans accomplish that earned her $1,500 more from a major health insurance company?” Steans admitted during the candidate forum that it was she who decided to invite health insurance CEOs to play a role in “revising” the bill. “I involved the head of the insurance companies in the negotiation,” Steans said at the candidate forum. Democrats in the Illinois House passed H.B. 3923 by a partisan vote of 62-45 on April 3, 2009. The bill underwent significant changes in the Illinois Senate with Steans as its sponsor. The final bill Steans negotiated with the health insurance companies received the vote of nearly all Republicans in both House and Senate. “I wonder what reform was left on the table in order to ensure that the campaign cash would keep flowing from insurance companies?” remarked Madigan. “Leadership requires a willingness to stand up and say no when deep pocket donors come calling to stifle reform. I have not and will not take a cent from health insurance companies because I know we will never get real reform if legislators are beholden to them.” Madigan repeated his support of a universal, single payer health care system for the United States. “Like other industrialized nations, we need to move away from our system of health insurance toward a system of health care.” CONTACT: Lauren Peters, Campaign Manager Jim Madigan for State Senate 773.431.9658 Leave a Comment * Conservative T-Shirts * Follow CNB on Twitter * RSS Feed

Smells Like Ginderske

I was looking at the campaign finances for Jim Ginderske's 2007 aldermanic campaign recently and something just didn't smell right. But then, Jim Ginderske exudes the odor of fraudulent misrepentation.

He continues to misrepresent two of his projects, "Neighbors for a Healthy Rogers Park" and "The Urban Coaster" as legitimate organizations, even though the Illinois Secretary of State states flatly that they are not what they claim to be.

When Ginderske was running his ill-fated campaign in Chicago's 49th Ward, I witnessed him receive a $250 check from a local union. It was all very hush-hush. Why? He didn't want it known that a certain individual had sent him the check.

More importantly, the guy who gave him the check didn't want it known. The check was from a local union, and I don't recall the signature on the check. The unions were all very afraid of incumbent tyrant Joe Moore, which is why Ginderske got almost nothing from them. They knew that any donation to Ginderske would show on a D2 reporting form, which would be seen by Moore.

The point here is that Ginderske received a check in the amount of $250 but it seems to be missing on both his Contributions List or his Itemized Contributions List as shown on the Illinois State Board of Elections web site.

Now, I'm not saying that the geniuses in the Ginderske 2007 scout troop did not report that $250 donation. It is possible, I suppose, that Jim Ginderske never even cashed it. Hell, he might even have returned it. I don't know what actually happened to that check, but it seems likely that the cash strapped candidate did cash it.

If that happened, it should be showing on at least one of those ISBE lists. We are right to be suspicious about the Ginderske campaign contributions reporting. After all, it was Ginderske and his campaign chair, Thomas J. Westgard, who were key players in a sham organization last year called "Neighbors for a Healthy Rogers Park" (NHRP).

That venture was dissolved by the Illinois Sec. of State for not properly filing its annual report. As of this writing at 2:00 a.m. on January 13, 2009, the Sec. of State shows NHRP's status as "NOT GOOD STANDING."

Yet Ginderske and his gang continue to pass off NHRP as a legitimate not-for-profit organization. More recently, another venture involving Ginderske and Westgard was never granted incorporation because - oops! - their filing fee check bounced in December, 2008. This venture is called "The Urban Coaster," a web site with a dead-tree version. Ginderske and his gang continue to falsely show themselves as "The Urban Coaster, Inc.," even though they are, in fact, not incorporated in Illinois - not under that name anyway.

As of this writing at 2:29 a.m. on January 13, 2009, the Sec. of State's web site still shows them as not incorporated. The reason stated: "UNACCEPTABLE PAYMENT 12 17 08." (Go here http://www.ilsos.gov/corporatellc/ and search for "The Urban Coaster") Ginderske and Westgard have a demonstrable pattern of not filing official papers properly and of not handling money well. In fact, let's go full circle and return to the Ginderske 2007 campaign.

Seems they screwed up filing then, too. Again we go to the Illinois State Board of Elections, this time to search through "Fines Due and Owing."

There, we find this:
Ginderske 2007 Imposed Date: 03/26/2007
Balance Due: $500.00
Report: Pre-election
Report Period End Date: 01/28/2007
Reason: 4 DAYS LATE - and -
Imposed Date: 10/25/2007
Balance Due: $2,600.00
Report: Semiannual
Report Period End Date: 06/30/2007
Reason: 52 DAYS LATE

The next aldermanic election will be in 2011. You can bet that Ginderske will run, and is in fact campaigning even now. Front groups such as The Urban Coaster and NHRP are nothing more than attempts to keep his name "out there," to maintain an organization of useful idiots, and ultimately transform those groups into a little campaign army. If Ginderske really wants to project himself as a bumbling idiot who lies about the legal status of his bogus organizations and cannot properly file papers or submit good checks for fee payments, he's doing one hell of a job. If he wants to project himself as a decent man with a good head on his shoulders, he couldn't have chosen a worse strategy.

Contractors Gave Blago $80,000 (Steans Gave Him $200,000)

We are shocked (not!) to read a report that Blago got some big bucks from road contractors. The amount, $80,000, is a small fraction of what Queen of Pay To Play, State Senator Heather Steans, has given Blago. Steans and hubby Leo Smith have given Blago some $200,000 for his election campaigns. Unlike the questionable contractors, however, Steans will actually be one of those who will soon be judging Blago in his upcoming Illinois Senate trial. Think about that: It would be like Bugsy Siegel sitting on a jury, judging Al Capone. An Associated Press review of campaign contributions shows Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich raised at least $80,000 from firms with state road contracts at a time federal prosecutors claim he was trying to cash in on construction programs. Ready to Storm Obama's Playing Field

There was much made - and is still being made - of Barack Obama's links to Muslims and Islamic entities during the recent presidential election. Some people were/are concerned with his father's Muslim beliefs. Some were/are concerned with his history in Pakistan. All were/are still concerned about the huge amounts of donations from foreign nationals in Muslim nations. The Bench also wrote about some of Obama's connections to Islam, but strove to do so in a way that examined facts, not conjecture or rumor. The Bench passed on a number of "stories" that readers sent to us, because after we cross checked them we found that they were false myth or perilously devoid of hard facts. Then there were those driven by anti-Muslim bigotry, and while The Bench does not run from calling an Islamic terrorist an "Islamic terrorist," we also acknowledge that the vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists. Five weeks after Obama won the election, The Bench still gets such letters. The Internet still throbs with such items. Let us stress that bigotry against Barack Obama for any past or present Muslim influence in his personal life is no more acceptable than the hateful bigotry thrown at Republican contender Mitt Romney. Romney, a Mormon from a long line of Mormons, was savaged by bigots in both the Democrat Party as well as his own. Perhaps one day we can judge a person by the content of his character and not by the flavor of his religious beliefs. (That said, I confess that I would be a bit nervous about a candidate for any office who was known to be a Satanist.) A recent letter came to The Bench, in which the well-meaning author expressed concern about Obama's intention to deliver a major speech in the capital of "a Muslim nation" shortly after his upcoming inauguration. That, the reader wrote, as well as his Muslim campaign donors, is supposed to be a signal that Obama is really some kind of stealth Islamist. She stopped short of speculating that Obama owns a closet full of suicide bomber belts, but she might as well have written that, too. My response to her, and my advice to people who are still all worked up about Obama's Muslim ties, follows: Dear Reader: As for Obama and the Muslims: First, take a deep breath, hold it for ten seconds, then... let ... it ... out slowly. Now then, let me play Devil's advocate: Proceed with caution on this, because we do not know absolutely that he is a Muslim. In fact, overwhelming evidence is that he's not a Muslim. Think about it: The drug use years ago. The way Michelle dresses (like an average Western woman). The fact that he does not bow down five times daily to pray or attend mosque services as a worshipper. For argument's sake, let's agree that he was born to a Muslim father. So what? My dad was Jewish, my mother was non-denominational Protestant. I grew up agnostic but converted to Christianity after a personal epiphany, but have never prayed in a church. I pray at the beach or under a tree or wherever I want (because God hears all, everywhere, anytime). What does that mean? It means nothing, and it means everything: We are all unique, and one of the great things about the US, and the West in general, is freedom of choice and freedom from familial bondage to any particular religion or set of customs. So, is Barack Obama secretly Muslim? Only he knows, but I seriously doubt it. If he's some kind of sleeper agent or Manchurian candidate, well, we can't know that yet. In the meantime, I have to go with the overwhelming evidence (of his actions) that he is not Muslim. Is he sympathetic to the Muslims? No doubt he is. Is that, in and of itself, a bad thing? It depends upon the degree to which he sympathizes with them. Does he have the right to feel an affinity for Muslims? Yes. Does he have a right to make a speech in any city he chooses? Yes, he does, and I think the reason that he is making an announcement in "an Islamic capital" is that the subject of his speech will relate directly to Muslim and/or Arab concerns and affairs. That should not be suspicious, necessarily. We are, after all, engaged in friendly diplomatic relations with many of the Arab nations. We have invaded two Muslim nations recently. We import a huge portion of our petroleum from that region. We need to strengthen relations with them, not by appeasing, but through mutual cooperation in matters of security and military coordination, as well as a broad range of mutual concerns with all things economic. I could go on and on, but I think you see where I'm going with all of this. Just because he has Muslim contributors is not necessarily an indictment of his character or intentions, either. Any candidate who runs an election campaign for any office higher than dog catcher is likely to receive contributions from unsavory characters or controversial entities. I guarantee you that every Republican got contributions from neo-Nazis or Klan members. Does that make the Republican politicians Nazis or Klansmen? Of course not. Pedophiles, litterers, jaywalkers and all kinds of people donate to both parties. So, a large number of Muslims donated to Obama. What does that mean, really, except that they are anti-White, anti-Western and/or see Obama as somebody who might take us in a direction more favorable to Muslim countries. That, by the way, does not necessitate an anti-Israel stance. We cannot assume, and we cannot know, how many of the tens of thousand of Muslims who donated to Obama's campaigns (IL Senate, US Senate, President) are disloyal Americans or in favor of driving Israel into the sea, or may be terrorist sympathizers. My guess (and there is no way for anybody to measure this) is that the vast majority of them are average people who donated to a particular candidate (Obama, in this case) for average reasons: Ethnicity, their personal religious orientation, liberal political orientation, socio-economic history and status, and on and on and on. Let's sit back and enjoy the show. We, you and I, are spectators for the moment. Let's let the referees on the field officiate the game. If there is foul play down there, we trust that the referees will throw a flag down and issue the appropriate penalties. Like British soccer fans, however, we hold in reserve the option of storming the field if the referees don't do their job. OBAMA'S SECRET, FOREIGN DONATIONS

Though Gadhafi asserted that fundraising from Arab and African nations were “legitimate,” the fact is that U.S. federal law bans any foreigner from donating to a U.S. election campaign. Staggering amounts of foreign money is pouring into Obama's campaign chest. How beholden to foreign interests would Barack Obama be if he wins in November? For that matter, how beholden will he forever be to them, whether he becomes our next president or just remains a U.S. Senator? A mind-blowing report at NewsMax gives details - LOTS of details. For example: Until recently, the Obama Web site allowed a contributor to select the country where he resided from the entire membership of the United Nations, including such friendly places as North Korea and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Where is much of that money coming from? ...from places as far afield as Abu Dhabi, Addis Ababa, Beijing, Fallujah, Florence, Italy, and a wide selection of towns and cities in France. Isn't the Obama campaign checking to make sure the donations are legal? Unlike McCain’s or Sen. Hillary Clinton’s online donation pages, the Obama site did not ask for proof of citizenship until just recently. Clinton’s presidential campaign required U.S. citizens living abroad to actually fax a copy of their passport before a donation would be accepted. With such lax vetting of foreign contributions, the Obama campaign may have indirectly contributed to questionable fundraising by foreigners. International investigations are already ramping up: At one event, a table for eight at one fundraising dinner went for $16,800. Nigerian press reports claimed sponsors raked in an estimated $900,000. The sponsors said the fundraisers were held to help Nigerians attend the Democratic convention in Denver. But the Nigerian press expressed skepticism of that claim, and the Nigerian public anti-fraud commission is now investigating the matter. Are there any links to terrorist money? In June, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi gave a public speech praising Obama, claiming foreign nationals were donating to his campaign. “All the people in the Arab and Islamic world and in Africa applauded [Barack Obama],” the Libyan leader said. “They welcomed him and prayed for him and for his success, and they may have even been involved in legitimate contribution campaigns to enable him to win the American presidency..." Though Gadhafi asserted that fundraising from Arab and African nations were “legitimate,” the fact is that U.S. federal law bans any foreigner from donating to a U.S. election campaign. Frightening stuff, this. A man who might soon become our next president is taking money from, and praised by, foreign donors living in other countries. As noted at the top of this post, "Though Gadhafi asserted that fundraising from Arab and African nations were 'legitimate,' the fact is that U.S. federal law bans any foreigner from donating to a U.S. election campaign." Forget your idealism about allowing anybody to donate to a campaign. Forget your feelings about globalism. The simple fact is that the Obama campaign is knowingly taking huge donations from foreign entities. That alone is a violation of federal law, and the Obama campaign seems more than happy to repeatedly commit that violation.

Reader Responds to Obama, the Pritzkers and the Subprime Meltdown

A reader responds to Obama, the Pritzkers and the Subprime Meltdown: Subject: Re: Obama/Pritzker Story To: rogersparkbench Date: Monday, September 29, 2008, 12:08 PM Tom...Do enjoy reading your blog..although I have a decided preference for the local issues you cover so well. Still, although being a genuine moderate in my political thinking, now and then I do sense you go over the line in stretching truth to justify a point of view. Nothing wrong with that...it's your blog..and how you think. That said however, the following statement in the above mentioned story is what I think is a perfect example of . You said: "Remember, too, that Obama has received enormous amounts of campaign donations from Fannie Mae. His top advisers oversaw mismanagement and fraud at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac." According to an OPEN SECRETS report published on September 11, 2008, it states that Sen. Obama did in fact receive $120,349 in donations. I mean that is hardly what one could fairly state as 'enormous.' Sizable perhaps, but not as you state. The report also reveals that Sen. McCain received $21,550 for the same reported election cycle...something not noted in your commentary. Here's the link to the report: http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/update-fannie-mae-and-freddie.html Enjoy....and thanks for keeping an eye on things here in RP. You, Craig and others do something very important for our little slice of the universe. West Ridge Response: Thanks for your thoughtful email. First, let me say thanks again for your kind words. I'm not sure why $120,349 would not be considered to be enormous. Consider: Federal law limits donations to presidential candidates to $2,300 per person. Consider this: Obama ran for US Senate in 2004. Since that time, he received his $126,349 in campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie. Compare that to Sen. Dodd, the only one to get more than Barack from Fannie and Freddie. Dodd has been in the Senate for decades. Yet Barack ranks number two on a list of Congressmen and Senators who have been in far longer than he has. See the full list at http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/update-fannie-mae-and-freddie.html. I am sincerely confused that you do not consider $126,349 in campaign contributions, in less than four years, to be large, big, or "enormous." Ah, as for "local coverage," correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Barack Obama is our U.S. Senator, and Rogers Park is part of his constituency. He is running to be the president of this nation, which includes Rogers Park. As for the Penny Pritzker connection, she is part of a very influential Chicago family, and Rogers Park is part of Chicago. Local enough for you?

The Failure of Sunrise Equities

UPDATED, OCT. 17, 2008: ALSO SEE OBAMA CONNECTED TO SUNRISE EQUITIES, PART ONE DEVELOPING: There is a major financial scandal brewing in Chicago's muslim community, as reported by Bill Morton. Sunrise Equities was a developer of mixed use and residential real estate in the Chicagoland area. It has gone under. While this is not the biggest financial story of the day, it has left hundreds of investors devastated and is likely to affect Chicago families and investors more deeply than the Bank of America Corp.’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch or the pending Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. The CEO of Sunrise Equities, Salman Ibrahim, and other officers have gone missing. Investors are panicking. Morton reports that Ibrahim donated to Alderman Joe Moore (Democrat), and The Bench finds that he also donated to Barack Obama in 2006 and in 2004, and has more recently donated at least twice to Sen. Joe Biden in 2006. Ibrahim was also a chairman of NEXTEC Engineering, Ltd., which lists its head office addres as 61A, Block-B, Main Boulevard,Johar Town in Lahore, Pakistan. Today, the web site no longer has any reference to Salman Ibrahim. This scandal has citywide ripples: A March 10, 2006 press release from Sunrise Equities bragged about a transaction in Uptown: "Sunrise Equities is pleased to announce the purchase of 4 parcels near the corner of Leland and Marine Drive. A yet unnamed project is under development and will be the largest project under the SunRise umbrella. The mixed use development plan will call for up to 150 condos and townhomes as well as community retail." (Also see www.uptownchicagocommission.org/apr_1_07.html) More press releases can be seen on the Sunrise Equities web site, which also lists major projects that they were involved in. The Muslim Media Network (MMN) reported this on Sept. 11: "According to latest reports coming from Chicago the management of Sunrise Equities and the affiliated Sunrise Constructions have disappeared after closing their offices. Sunrise CEO Salman Ibrahim, Vice President Amjed Mahmood, and Vice President (Community Relations) Mohammad Akbar Zahid are untraceable." MMN also reports that "Sunrise Equities, a Chicago based financial services firm which claimed to be Shariah compliant, has gone under leaving many area Muslims robbed of their savings. Incorporated in 2001 the firm claimed that all its services were in compliant with Islamic laws and had the endorsement of a leading religious scholar." Following is a press release from the Shariah Board of America in an attempt to quiet down the rumor firestorm raging around this: Shariah Board of America's response to the Sunrise Equities financial crisis facing the Muslim Community Chicago, IL, September 6, 2008: It has been brought to the attention of the Board of Directors of Rahmat-e-Alam Foundation that there have been several false rumors and innuendos labeled against Shariah Board and its’ officers regarding the failure of Sunrise Equities. In particular, there are misleading emails and newspaper articles that falsely allege the involvement of the leadership of Shariah Board with Sunrise Equities. This press release is intended to set the facts straight: • If it is true that Sunrise Equities is financially insolvent and their officers are missing, then Shariah Board of America is deeply shocked and saddened by this turn of events. If the allegations leveled against Salman Ibrahim and other officers of Sunrise Equities are true, then Shariah Board expresses their deepest disappointment with these individuals. We strongly empathize with the investors of Sunrise Equities and pray for them. May Allah (swt) limit their losses, grant them Sabar and Naimal Badal. Shariah Board is making a sincere appeal to the officers of Sunrise Equities to come forward and answer questions from their investors. • It is true that Salman Ibrahim, like hundreds of other Muslims, has been a supporter of Shariah Board. He was also a member of the Board. But it is completely false that Shariah Board or its’ officers supported Sunrise Equities quid pro quo. Shariah Board categorically denies the false allegation that its’ officers received any compensation, living expenses or any other benefit for supporting Salman Ibrahim as a trustable and reliable businessman. In addition, in light of recent circumstances, the Directors of Shariah Board have unanimously agreed and removed Salman Ibrahim from the Board. Contact: Syed Mohammed Ali Farid 7045 N. Joe Moore's Shameful Campaign Contribution

That's our Joe Moore, alderman of Chicago's 49th Ward. Bad enough that he leans on developers, he also happily takes - and keeps - donations from guys like Cedomir "Chad" Zuric, who owes $400,000 in child support. Joe Moore is a big supporter of Barack Obama. Like Obama, Moore is a Chicago Democrat Machine Cog, who pretends to want "change." The only change Joe Moore has ever wanted is the kind he can pick out of a pocket.
