Huge Fire Destroys Hundreds of Buildings in Ancient Tibetan Town - Wooden Structures Fed The Inferno

Tibetan town of Dukezong burns on 11 January 2014.

January 11, 2014 - Flames devoured much of Dukezong, a 1,300 year old Tibetan town. The blazing inferno started around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday and quickly consumed old wooden buildings for about 10 hours.

More that 2,000 people were evacuated. No injuries have been reported. Dukezong, a popular tourist destination, is in the southwestern Chinese province Yunnan (see map), which is better known to Westerners as Shangri-la.

"Hundreds of buildings, including one with monument status dating to the early 17th century, were destroyed in the fire which began early yesterday in Dukezong Ancient Town," South China Morning Post reported. "Locals estimated that more than 70 per cent of Dukezong was destroyed, including the town's central Sifang Street and a white Tibetan prayer tower."

"According to local officials, more than 240 houses have been destroyed by the blaze, and at least two thousand people evacuated." reports CCTV. "Initial investigation has ruled out arson. The fire in Dukezong town of the resort county of Shangri-La broke out at around half past one on Saturday morning.... Most of the structures there are made of wood, making it easier for the fire to spread and difficult for fire-fighting operations."  More below video...

Dukezong means "the town of moon" in Tibetan and was "an important town on the South Silk Road, also known as the Ancient Road of Tea and Horse. It is now one of the most renowned resorts in Shangri-la, known for its well-preserved ancient Tibetan dwellings," according to Xinhua news agency.

On Camera: Deadly Fireworks Factory Explosion In Quebec

Viral Report YouTube Channel
June 21, 2013 - Two women died in a massive explosion on Thursday at a fireworks factory in the town of Coteau-du-Lac, located in southwestern Quebec, Canada (map). The explosion was caught on camera, and you can see videos below.

The B.E.M. fireworks plant and warehouse were completely destroyed by the fire and resulting blast. The cause of the fire is still not known. Authorities are still trying to determine why the fire started at B.E.M., which employed about two dozen people and has been in Coteau-du-Lac since 1970. There were no sprinklers in the building.

Two bodies were found in the still-smoldering ruins, reports the Montreal Gazette. "The initial explosion occurred shortly before 9 a.m., followed by smaller blasts and an intense fire that burned for three hours. Nearby residents were forced from their homes and a portion of Highway 20 west of Montreal was closed for hours." The Gazette also reports that "Fire Chief Stéphane Massicotte said a total of 14 fire departments responded to the call from as far away as Pincourt. There were 150 firefighters on the scene." In a later report, the Gazette identified the two killed in the inferno as Francine Lacroix, a 47-year-old resident of Riviere-Beaudette, and Nicole Brisson, 58, of Les Coteaux. Both women were B.E.M. employees.

In the video below, the explosion begins at 0:37

Detroit's Mayor Covering For City's Incompetent Fire Response

The horrible fires that have swept through parts of Detroit recently were natural, says Mayor Dave Bing. He called the fires a natural disaster. Perhaps Mayor Bing is lying to cover up the fact that Detroit's fire department has long been understaffed and under-equipped, or maybe he is trying to squeeze as much federal funding as he can. Or, maybe, both. The bottom line is that Bing seems to be playing politics with a disaster that has destroyed homes and businesses in an already depressed city. Associated Press reported that Mayor Bing called the blazes natural. He "defended a stretched fire department Wednesday and its response to what he termed 'a natural disaster,' after wind-whipped flames destroyed dozens of occupied and abandoned homes across the city." Bing, according to AP, "said firefighters confronted conditions that were not manmade' starting Tuesday afternoon. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph forced flames to jump from house to house, eventually encompassing 85 homes and garages — many abandoned — across several neighborhoods." The Detroit News reported that Mayor Bing "said very little could have been done to prevent" the fires, "which required emergency help from five surrounding communities, engulfed at least 85 structures throughout the city. Bing said every community except southwest Detroit was affected." Amazingly, Bing went so far as to say that "You can never have enough resources when something like that happens," and "You can't plan for something like that." The cause of the lastest fires, actually, is still being investigated. Bing, therefore, is speaking out of turn. He doesn't know, nobody yet knows, what caused the fires. One thing that does seem certain, though, it the cause of the poor response by the Detroit Fire Department. Nobody blames the DFD itself, nor any of its brave firefighters. Rather, the city's inept government is to blame for having whittled down the DFD to an inadequate manpower level. MyFox Detroit interviewed Captain Dan McNamara, the president of the Detroit Fire Fighters Association. Capt. McNamara had some harsh words for Detroit's government, and he told Fox that the CFD is severely understaffed. According to a September 8 report on Fox, "the city needs 200-300 more firefighters to properly service and keep citizens safe." Fox asked Capt. McNamara for his assessment last night's response by the fire department. He said (emphasis added), "Abmissal. Unfortunately, this is something that we have been telling the mayors, the city council and our fire administration for almost a decade now. We've been diminished to the point that we're so concerned about our firefighters safety, but no one's listening to us. We're down probably 200-300 firefighters. Of the 65 fire companies we have left in the city, 8-10 a day are closed which leaves giant holes. And fire fighting hasn't changed. It's about weight and response time and the amount of people you send there. And when we don't get to a fire in time, and fires can double in size every 2-3 minutes, we have a very serious situation on our hands." Only a fool would believe Mayor Bing when he says that "very little could have been done to prevent" the fires, and that "You can never have enough resources when something like that happens," and "You can't plan for something like that." Perhaps Mayor Bing is a complete idiot. More likely, he's hoping that most of his constituents are idiots. Only a fool would believe those words. The whole point of having a fire department in the first place is to be prepared for potential disaster. The mere act of instituting a fire department involves "planning for something like that." If Capt. McNamara is to be believed, plenty could have been done to ensure that Detroit had "enough resources when something like that happens." It doesn't matter whether a fire is started by an arsonist or a lightning bolt. It starts quickly and with no warning. Manmade or natural, the fire spreads to nearby buildings at the same rate. For Mayor Bing to excuse his city's years-long emasculation of their fire department by blaming nature is inexcusable. We'll give Mayor Bing a pass when he says that some fires are not preventable. Arson, for example: Nobody can predict when somebody will sprinkle gasoline around a warehouse and set it ablaze, but Mayor Bing would have us believe that "you can never have enough resources when something like that happens." The fires in Detroit were whipped by high winds, which certainly compounded the situation, but Capt. McNamara hinted that the wind should not be used as an excuse by Mayor Bing. "We live in Michigan," Capt. McNamara said, "We have always handled the weather. Sure, this was the perfect storm. But it's a day that we warned them that was coming. We don't have enough of a response. We don't have enough firefighters to adequately get to every one of our issues." Mayor Bing seems to be generating enough wind lately to fan a lot of flames, and tempers are flaring in Detroit. While it's true that Detroit's firefighters "confronted conditions that were not manmade" (dry weather, high winds), the conditions that caused CFD's poor response were entirely manmade. The real scandal in all of this is Detroit's pitiful economic condition, which has contributed heavily to the lousy economy of Michigan. The lousy economy of Michigan can be blamed directly on the financially corrupt and economically ignorant policies of that state's Democrat leadership. The lack of funds is the primary cause of the Detroit Fire Department being 200-300 firefighters short of where it should be. That, in turn, is a direct cause of the fires spreading as far and as quickly as they have. Consequently, lost lives, jobs, dreams and property in these latest Detroit fires can be blamed directly on the Michigan Democratic Party. Australian Fires Climate or Arson???

Australia's horrific wildfires have destroyed whole towns and killed, by now, at least 200 people. Eager to blame somebody - or something - for the catastrophe, The Church of Global Warming is trying to convince us that climate change is the cause of the fires. By extension, the same lunatic adherents to the Church of Global Warming would have to say that brush fires in California - or anywhere else - are also caused by climate change. That's lunacy. Here's why. We know that many brush fires are the work of arsonists. Some of those arsonists are "fire bugs" who have a sick fascination with fire. Some arsonists do it for insurance money; some of their fires go out of control and become bigger than they intended. Some arsonists are eco-terrorists bent of exacting revenge on the human race in order to avenge the displacement of gophers and scorpions. Still others, it turns out, may be Islamo-terrorists. Not of those arsonists were driven to their criminal acts by climate change. The lunatic eagerness to blame Global Warming/Climate Change for everything evil reaches a crescendo in article such as the one at RedOrbit.com: The latest series of wildfires to hit Australia appeared to be intensified due to climate change, scientists reported on Monday. Australia is prone to massive wildfires due to its dry climate and naturally combustible vegetation, including oil-rich eucalyptus forests, according to the nation’s Bureau of Meteorology. However, the wildfires that struck Victoria over the weekend were the nation's deadliest on record, and scientists believe climate change is to blame. "Scientists believe climate change is to blame." Meanwhile, experts in arson investigation are certain that human beings set the blazes in Australia. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the meteorologists are not on the fire scenes poking around for evidence of criminal activity. It's quite a stretch of faith to believe that climate change is to blame for "naturally combustible vegetation, including oil-rich eucalyptus forests." RedOrbit continues: "Climate change, weather and drought are altering the nature, ferocity and duration of bushfires," Gary Morgan, head of the government-backed Bushfire Cooperative Research Center, told the AFP." Really? And how, please, does one actually prove that theory? Oh! It's windy! Must be climate change! It hasn't rained in weeks! Must be climate change! Somebody put a torch to that tree! It's climate change! Again, from RedOrbit: Climate Change Minister Penny Wong said the record heat is yet another sign of global climate change scientists have forecasted. "Eleven of the hottest years in history have been in the last 12, and we also note, particularly in the southern part of Australia, we're seeing less rainfall," said Wong. Well, isn't that fascinating? Imagine, "eleven of the hottest years in history." In history! All 200 years of the history of Australian records of temperatures? Notice that Wong did not say, "The eleven hottest years in history." She said, "Eleven of the hottest years..." That's important, because if there were, say, a dozen even hotter years 150 years ago, her statement is still correct. It's Orwellian to state it the way she did. It is misleading, and she probably knows it. The ravings of The Church of Global Warming see things in the same way that some folks see the image of Christ in a stain on a highway overpass wall. They really, really want it to be there, and their minds - not their eyes - are fooling them into "seeing" it. If you believe deeply enough, you will "see" whatever your faith demands. The Church of Global Warming demands that you see climate change in everything bad. An excellent article at Slate.com today examines how a wildfire is investigated. How do you investigate a wildfire for signs of arson? First, figure out where it got started. The place where firefighters first engaged with the blaze is a good place to begin, as are spots where eyewitnesses say they first saw flames or charred ground. Once they're in the ballpark, a careful study of burn patterns can guide investigators to the fire's point of origin. None of the forensic methods described involve any of the theories of The Church of Global Warming. They focus instead on humans using matches for all the wrong reasons. The Toronto Sun reports today that "Police declared incinerated towns crime scenes Monday, and the prime minister spoke of 'mass murder' after investigators said arsonists may have set some of Australia’s worst wildfires in history." Humans misbehaving, not global warming or climate change, is squarely blamed by forensic experts for the Australian infernos. The Sun article, from AP, further notes that "Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, visibly upset during a television interview, reflected the country’s disgust at the idea that arsonists may have set some of the 400 fires that devastated Victoria state, or helped them jump containment lines." The eagerness to blame disasters on "climate change" or "global warming" is a blind faith delusion. We might as well start blaming higher crime rates on climate change. After all, if last summer hadn't been "one of the hottest on record," perhaps some of those criminals might not have been willing to go outdoors and snatch purses. Then again, if last summer had been "one of the rainiest in history," would The Church of Global Warming hail climate change for reducing the number of stolen purses? Post Script - On 2/9/09, a commenter wrote: Wow, great article! I too am tired of the misleading AGW/CC speak. Forest Fire Jihadists

Perhaps if we just talk to these murderous psychopaths, we can reason with them. Surely, they just want to engage in dialog, no? Uh huh. AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror. In the name of Allah, lunatics are planning even now to torch more of Australia. Who's to say they aren't planning the same thing for California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado or Illinois? US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".
