Suspect Detained After Multiple Shots Fired In Uptown, Chicago
EXCLUSIVE: Chicago police detained a suspect in a multiple shots fired case early this morning on the North Side. They got him in less than 30 minutes after receiving a number of panicked 911 calls. Here is our real time report, written as we heard it live on the police scanner:
1:55 A.M., September 4, 2010 - Multiple 911 calls reporting 8 or 9 shots fired, initially thought to be near near W. Lawrence and N. Malden in Uptown... DEVELOPING...
At 2:04 A.M.: A police unit called in to tell dispatch that civilian has two bullet holes in their Chevy Caprice at W. Leland and N. Magnolia. That's one block north of Truman College (map). Shots now considered bona fide. Police searching for shell casings at this intersection. Suspect at large. Description of suspect: 5' 10", 150 pounds, male Black, "has a large caliber gun," "carmel complexion," blue visor, white stripes on arms of his blue jacket, blue jeans.
At 2:13 A.M.: Suspect thought to be hiding in an alley off of 4400 block of N. Clifton (map), just south of Truman College. Dispatch calls for "saturation team" to respond.
2:18 A.M.: Unit calls in, says nothing found in that alley. Other units continuing search on N. Clifton.
2:21 A.M: Unit calls in, "Possible suspect matching description walking eastbound on Wilson at Racine."
2:22 A.M.: Suspect in custody at 1211 W. Lawrence Avenue (map).
SHOTS FIRED, 6700 N CLARK STREET
Raw Notes from Chicago Police dispatcher: July 22, 2010, 5:39 PM - multiple shots fired, 6700 North Clark, 8-10 males shooting at each other.... blacks, hispanics, N. Clark & W. North Shore shooting at each other ... male hispanic, jersey with "14" on it ran west bound from above ... male black doing the shooting now standing in front of "the liquor store" ... male black described as "no shirt" with "a six pack"... male hispanic white shirt blue jeans long hair headed toward "el station", fired two shots in air ... 5:47 PM - A woman in the 1700 block of W. North Shore says a bullet from the above shooting went through her window. The liquor store owner has no security camera....
Wrap up, 6:52 PM: No reports of injuries via CPD radio frequencies. No mention of whether the guns used in this incident were legally registered, but we strongly suspect that they were not. We also suspect that the shooters didn't give a damn about either the old Chicago handgun ban, or about the new Chicago ordinance that makes legal possession of a handgun as difficult as possible.

Shots Fired, Sheridan and Wilson, 10:33 PM Aug 13 (Updated)
DEVELOPING: Four to five shots were reported heard at or near N. Sheridan and W. Wilson in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood tonight. Info taken from Chicago Police scanner, 23rd District. UPDATE: 11:58 PM - The police activity in Uptown, which is usually higher, is higher than usual. Gang members, it is reported, are seen roaming in groups of ten or more. There have been numerous rumors of shots fired at various parts of Uptown, including Leland and Broadway, Sheridan and Wilson, and others. Sources tell us that all tactical police teams are in the Lakeview area, leaving resources thin in Uptown and elsewhere. (Why? Because Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis is a political hack and is more concerned with the bad image cast by the recent rash of street robberies than he is about reigning in the roaming, shooting gangsters. See "Weis defends extra attention on Lincoln Park muggings.") Meanwhile, we are told, CPD units are gathering in groups of six to ten cars at various locations around Uptown, most likely in preparation for expected trouble.
10:39 PM - CPD says reports now of "girl shot four times" at Lakeside and Sheridan. UPDATE: 11:58 PM - This seems to have been a false report to the police. (This happens sometimes when the gangs want to divert police away from something they are doing or planning elsewhere.)
10:37 PM: "Male white seen running eastbound from Sheridan and Leland" (one block north of Wilson). UPDATE: 11:58 PM - This seems to be genuine, but not known if it was connected to gang activity or, for that matter, to any criminal activity.
10:33 PM: Two men were fighting by the grocery at the NE corner of Wilson and Sheridan and "ran over to the McDonalds" across the street. UPDATE: 11:58 PM - This was genuine, but not known if it was connected to gang activity. Witnesses at McDonald's say it probably was not gang-related.
Updated - Chicago Police Respond Quickly to "Shots Fired"
21 May 2009 - Chicago - Police responded quickly to reports of "one shot fired" at 800 W. Sunnsyside in Uptown, a neighborhood that has more than its fair share of shootings.
The first police dispatch call went out at 11:22 p.m., and within a minute officers were screaming toward Sunnyside and Hazel. By 11:26 p.m., several squad cars were on the scene and looking around, as well as talking to nearby residents. At 11:31 p.m. an officer radioed that neither they nor the residents they spoke to saw anything.
Although Uptown has fewer cases of "shots fired" than many Chicago neighborhoods, it has more than its fair share. On Wednesday, May 20, for example, there were mulitple gun shots heard and reported. At least one resident's windows were shot out; that resident had nothing to do with the shootings.
