Concealed Carry: Politicians Get Armed Protection, But Not School Kids

Dec. 15, 2012 - Within minutes of the terrible school shooting in Newtown, CT politicians and ordinary folks started screaming for tougher control control laws. The only armed person at Sandy Hook Elementary School was Adam Lanza, the demented killer. Reports say that Lanza forced his way into the building. Had there been an armed door guard, things might have turned out very differently in Newtown.

As I wrote yesterday, schools are known to law enforcement as being attractive targets for criminally insane people bent on killing. That fact makes it hard to understand why so few schools have armed guards to protect the children and staff.

One factor that killers consider when choosing their targets is the amount of armed opposition they might encounter. Even the criminally insane are smart enough to choose a location where nobody else will have guns, where guns are banned. It should be pointed out that if Adam Lanza had a gone into the school without a gun but swinging a machete, he still would have killed a lot of people.

"Policies making areas 'gun-free' provide a sense of safety to those who engage in magical thinking," wrote Glenn Harlan Reynolds in USA Today on Dec. 14, "but in practice, of course, killers aren't stopped by gun-free zones. As always, it's the honest people — the very ones you want to be armed — who tend to obey the law."

The loudest voices now renewing the cry for more gun laws are politicians, mostly Democrats.  They argue that schools should be gun-free zones, and that allowing school staff to be armed would be dangerous. But which is more dangerous: Having yet another school left vulnerable to yet another armed crazy person's homicidal whims, where he can walk about shooting people at ease for many minutes until the police arrive? The moment the killer enters the building, it is in fact no longer "gun-free."

So, a bad guy is walking the halls of the school: Someone calls 911, but how they must wait for  police to arrive - with guns. Guns, not anti-gun laws, will save them from the bad guy. Police do what armed staff could have done minutes before, and needless deaths sooner, and that's shoot the attacker. But people died in the time it took police to arrive and get a bead on the bad guy.

Guns Could Have Saved Lives In That Colorado Theater

When I first heard about the horrific shooting during a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises"at the Century 16 complex in Aurora, Colorado my first thought was, "What a shame that some of those moviegoers weren't armed." One woman was quoted as saying that the gunman, James Eagan Holmes, 24,, stood "right in front of me" and pulled the trigger. Her reaction: "I dove over the seats" to take cover.
James Eagan Holmes
Think about that. If she'd had a gun, she could have shot the bastard and saved some people. Another person aimed his cellphone camera at the gunman. Too bad that guy didn't have .38 to aim at him instead.

I have not heard or seen a single report of anybody shooting back at Holmes.

Reuters sums up the nightmare: A gunman in a gas mask and body armor killed 12 people at a midnight premiere of the new "Batman" movie in a suburb of Denver early on Friday, opening fire on moviegoers after hurling a gas canister into the theater. Armed with an assault rifle, a shotgun and a pistol, he wounded another 59 with gunfire during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" at a mall in Aurora, which turned into a chaotic scene of bleeding victims, horrified screams and pleas for help, witnesses said. More from Reuters....

We'll be hearing from imbecile liberals all weekend and next week as they use this as an excuse for more gun control. The irony is that more guns - legal guns in the right hands - would have saved lives. Both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama had the good taste to express their horror at the shooting . I have no reason to believe that either was not sincere. The Repugnant Jesse Jackson, Sr., on the other hand, practically wet his pants, in such a hurry was he to make anti-gun political hay out of tragedy by calling for a ban on guns. Jackson, by the way, is often accompanied by armed bodyguards.

The weapons used by Holmes included an AR-15 assault rifle, a 12 gauge shotgun and a Glock .40 caliber handgun. All of his weapons were purchased legally, reports say, and this will undoubtedly be cited by liberal anti-gun extremists as further evidence of a complete ban on firearms. That would be a ridiculous argument, however, because most of the baseball bats, knives, meat cleavers, bottles of Drain-O and automobiles that are used to kill people every year are also legally purchased. No weapon, legally purchased or otherwise, kill  makes the decision to kill. That's done by the person who possesses the weapon, and the fact is that some people will always commit violence. Banning all firearms would leave the rest of us defenseless. (Please read the excellent opinion piece by Tom Weaver below.)

Tom Weaver, candidate for Congress, understands that:

We wake up this morning to the news of a terrible tragedy carried out in Colorado. Innocent people watching a newly released movie were suddenly facing a deranged shooter. And the effects are devastating.

Our prayers must go out to the victims and their families.

Why did this person commit these horrific acts? The answer is simple – no one will ever really know. Throughout the history of man, individuals, groups and governments have committed these crimes – destroying both life and liberty.

But as once stated, we have a natural right to life, a natural right to liberty, and a natural right to the pursuit of happiness. Our Founders believed in those natural rights and understood that the right to life means we have a natural right to defend our lives. And hence, they placed a guarantee within the Constitution that Government will never interfere with a person’s natural right to self-defense.

And yet, Government has done just the opposite by creating so many rules and regulations which limit the ability of people to defend themselves. Government has created an atmosphere which allows the right of self-defense to be forfeited for almost any reason. Government has created the façade that only they can protect us. This is wrong. Why? GOVERNMENT CANNOT PROTECT US – it is up to us, the people, to provide that protection.

One country that understands the natural right of self-defense is Switzerland. Switzerland has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world, yet, there is hardly any gun crime.

This tragedy may have been avoided had the person known that everyone in the aisle seats had the ability to defend themselves, their children, their loved ones and their neighbor. Our Founders were correct in stating that government must protect the right of citizens to self-defense, to keep and bear arms.

The More Guns the Better, and Here's Proof

Mayor Daley and all of the other lying anti-gun liars are - just - wrong. FBI statistics prove this handily. Will somebody please confront Daley and his lying comrades Pfather Pfleger and Jesse Jackson, Sr. about this? Would love to see their heads explode while trying to spin this inconvenient truth about gun ownership. Molon Labe! Chart: Federal Bureau of Investigation

Patrik Jonsson of CSM.com wrote about the decades-long debate over whether guns raise or lower crime: The oft-cited credo that more guns equal more crime is being tested by facts on the ground this year: Even as gun ownership has surged in the US in the past year, violent crime, including murder and robbery, has dropped steeply. Add to that the fact that many experts had predicted higher crime rates as the US grinds through a difficult recession, and the discrepancy has advocates on both sides of the Second Amendment debate rushing to their ramparts. One of my favorite quotes about guns: Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, Guns don't kill people, doctors do. Fact: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor." Source: Rense.com

Mayor Daley, Myth Maker

Has the Chicago ban on handgun worked? Nope. If Mayor Daley is so adamant about the city's handgun ban, why has it gone virtually unenforced? And why has Daley and his idiot sycophants perpetuated the myth that the ban is actually - magically, I guess - working?

According to the Sun-Times, June 27: The Chicago Police Department seized more than 13,000 guns last year, but only a handful of people were arrested for violating the city's handgun ban, records show. Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said 74 people were arrested in 2007 and 83 people in 2006 for failing to register their handguns, an ordinance violation.

In other words, the damned law that Daley screams is so necessary - is not even being enforced! Good lord. Didn't Idiot Daley recently decry the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that said D.C.'s ban is unconstitutional? Didn't he whimper and moan that this will turn Chicago into the "wild west?" Yep, that was our mayor.

Will Daley's fears come true? Doubtful. For one thin, based on the experience of 48 states were conceal and carry is legal, they will not affect or will actually reduce handgun crimes. For another, there are now serious legal challenges to the ban, emboldened by the Supreme Court's ruling.

On July 2, the Sun-Times reported an increase - a substantial increase - in gun-related killings in Chicago: Killings are up nearly 13 percent in Chicago this year. Through the end of June, the city has had 229 murders, unofficial Chicago Police Department figures show -- compared with 203 for the same period last year. Full Story...

Time for Mayor Myth Maker to face the facts. Bad guys have guns. His handgun ban not only hasn't prevented the bad guys from getting guns, it has not prevented large scale killing. His own police force isn't even enforcing the ban. Daley has lied. Meanwhile, people have died.

WE NEED MORE GUNS, NOT FEWER

WARNING: This posting contains rough language. Urbs in Bloodshed 4/22/2008 - 37 people shot in Chicago over the past weekend. But the killing continued after the weekend, into Monday, with at least four more dead and seven injured at last report.

Maybe now Mayor Daley and the Chicago Shitty Council will shut the hell up. We're long sick of hearing them chant "crime is down." Sure, it's down alright, and I'm the King of Prussia.

Mayor Daley, the dumbest asshole to ever be the mayor of a big city, has personal bodyguards who are armed to the teeth. With guns, folks, guns. Are YOU allowed to carry a gun for personal protection? No sirree, Asshole Daley and the Shitheads on the City Council say that you aren't qualified to own a gun in Chicago, let alone carry one. Heavens, if people carried guns, why, something bad might happen!

We wouldn't want the good guy to shoot the bad guy first, would we

READ THIS CAREFULLY THERE ARE ALREADY CRIMINALS WHO CARRY AND USE GUNS. GOT THAT?

Mayor Dickhead Daley can walk around with armed guards while you, me and other non-crazy, law-abiding citizens are not allowed to have the same level of protection. Who the hell does Mayor Daley think he is? Who the hell do the mentally deficient crooks on our City Council think they are? THEY can have guns because they're so special! Yes, they're better and smarter than you. It is elitist, mindless anti-gun liberal fascism at its zenith.

Those of us who have police scanners know that there were more than 37 shootings last weekend. The Sun-Times reports that "The unofficial weekend tally of 36 shootings over Friday, Saturday and Sunday was 14 more than the city experienced last year at the same time, police said. Seven people were killed."

Got that? "Unofficial." You're damned right it's unofficial. There are are so many calls to officers to respond to, in every police district of the city, that it would be nearly impossible for one person to accurately record it all in writing. Domestic arguments, spousal abuse, robberies - lots of robberies lately, fights in the middle of streets. That's just the appetizer tray.

The scanner lets you hear real time, live conversations between police and their dispatchers. I'll tell you honestly, folks, that the stuff you read in newspaper police blotters or on the ten o'clock news is the tip of a large iceberg.

The other night I heard a call for a district on the South Side: Man in trench coat standing on street corner, holding a rifle. After listening to my scanner for a while now, I barely raised an eyebrow at that one. But there it was, a lunatic with a gun. Fat lot of good Mayor Daley's anti-gun laws did there, eh? And all the vitriolic anti-gun ranting by the Repulsive Jesse Jackson and that crazy white reverend asshole something-or-other will not stop the inflow of guns by criminals for criminals.

That leaves you and me defenseless. Sure, the police do what they can. But they can only respond to an incident that is already happening, usually after tragedy and mayhem have struck. Did the Sun-Times report the lunatic on the street corner? Or the hundreds of other similarly frightening incidents like it, that occurred over the past weekend? No, and neither do the police or City Hall. They don't want us to think that crime might be going up, oh no. God forbid any of us should realize that monsters lurk just outside our front door, and that waiting 5 to 20 minutes for police to save you from the drugged up, knife wielding freak in your hallway is hardly worthy of the term "protection."

Every flak in City Hall and the Chicago Police Department is avoiding phone calls if possible this week, and passing questions along to robots drones. The drones wouldn't give a straight answer to a reporter even if she knew how. Typical response: "Send us your questions and let us know your deadline. We'll get back to ya." Yah, and maybe, after they take hours or days to figure out the spin they want to spit back at you, maybe you'll actually get a response. But it will not be a straight answer.

Mayor Daley and CPD Superintendent Weis risk pissing off a lot of bleeding heart idiots with their planned SWAT response to last weekend's bloodshed. The fools who believe that "violence is never the solution" must be all wobbly kneed at the thought of Democrat Daley being willing to send armed SWAT officers into our peaceful streets. Why, those nasty SWAT cops are likely to hurt somebody. By my thinking, that sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, it will have as much real effect as the laughable Commanders-on-the-Streets stunt three weeks ago.

Tell you what, Wobbly Knees. When you're getting the pulp beat out of you in some alley or in your own bedroom, don't reach for the phone to call 911. I mean, you wouldn't want those cops to come in and get all violent with the guy who's about to cripple or kill you, would you? No, not you, certainly not. You'll just politely raise your clammy little hand and try to understand your attacker, you'll reason with him, because you firmly believe that peace grows. Right?

The hoax perpetrated by Daley and Weis on the weekend of April 4-6 was supposed to scare the bejesus out of the bad guys. The Sun-Times reported on April 2 that "Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis has ordered his 25 district commanders to hit the streets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights --and he plans to use helicopter patrols on weekends -- to curb an outbreak of violence targeting young and old."

Huh? Nice job, Daley and Weis. Two weeks after that sham operation, we had the bloodiest weekend in many people's memories. Nice job. You two are fucking geniuses. Absolute fucking geniuses.

CPD Superintendent Weis blamed an excess of guns and gangs. No, Supt. Weis. You're only half right. You're right about there being too many gangs. But there are not too many guns, sir, there are not nearly enough. Allow the law abiding citizenry to own guns legally and crime will go down. Wisconsin and Illinois are the only two of our 50 United States that do not have some kind of concealed carry allowed. And guess what, Mr. and Mrs. Liberal - concealed carry does not turn cities in the wild west. It actually reduces gun crime, and the reason is stupifyingly simple.

If the bad guys know with 99.99% certainty that a home will not have a gun ready to defend it, they are a lot more likely to attempt to rob it. Duh. So, on the other side of the coin, if the same bad guys know there is a good chance that there may be a gun owner in the house, they will be much more reluctant to break in. Concealed carry actually reduced crime where it is implemented. Unfortunately, our weak-kneed Illinois State Legislature defeated concealed carry in 2006

As for the gun aspect of last weekend: Do I really need to point out that not all of the violence involved firearms? Remember, less than half of all violent incidents were actually reported to the media. Many of those reported, and those not reported, involved stabbing with pointed objects, mostly knives, bludgeoning with blunt instruments, and good old fashioned fisticuffs. People, if somebody is determined to hurt you they don't need gun. There are always options available.

As of 3:15 this afternoon (4/22/08), Chicago police were still looking for a man suspected of killing a woman with a plastic bag on Friday, and kidnapping her three children. It's not certain that the bag killed her - an autopsy will be done. It seems fairly certain, however, that she was not shot. CPD should be allowed to kick serious ass and then ask questions, but only if they're still in the mood for conversation after administering a good whooping. And when they're done kicking the crap out of the ACLU lawyers, then they can put the bad guys away for more than a few hours at a time.

Forty Eight Out of Fifty Do...

...Illinois is one of two that don't.

http://www.handgunlaw.us/
What do the other states know that we can't seem to come to grips with?

Guns Might Have Prevented NIU Massacre

Political correctness killed those students at NIU last week. If the administrators of NIU had been smart enough to allow their security guards to carry firearms, and had an armed guard been in the large hall where a nutjob opened fire from a stage last week, the guard might have been able to take down the shooter before more people were shot. It must also be noted that metal detectors could have helped, as well.

If political correctness had not allowed the lunatic shooter to be on the streets, rather than institutionalized as we now know he should have been, he could not have killed those students and badly injured more. His girlfriend would not be heartbroken today. I wouldn't be writing this post and you wouldn't be reading it.

If the State of Illinois would butch up and allow conceal-carry, Susie or Justin or Britney sitting in the fourth row of that auditorium might have been able to take down the insane killer before he could get off a second shot.

48 of our 50 states allow conceal-carry in some form or another. Illinois is one. Wisconsin, where the NIU shooter bought his weapon, is the other. But the usual crowd of spineless, clueless anti-gun propagandists have been screaming for more gun control. Idiotic, that. Chicago already has strict gun control. Do the gangsters care? Do they obey those laws? Drugs are strictly illegal, too. But walk down any street in Chicago, Morse Avenue for example, and you'll pass plenty of people who are carrying guns and/or drugs. About the only people in Chicago, in Illinois (and Wisconsin) who conceal and carry firearms are the criminals.

The law abiding people are denied the legal right to do so. That's you, pal. Instead of screaming for more gun control, we should all be demanding the right to carry a registered weapon to be able to defend ourselves, our families, our friends, our classmates.
