Mancow & Cassidy, Dumb and Dumber

UPDATE, FEB. 11, 2010: Pink slip for Erich 'Mancow' Muller - Chicago Tribune February 19, 2009 - Eric Mancow Muller just doesn't get it, and neither does his clueless sidekick, ex-newsman Pat Cassidy.

Before I rip into their ignorance, however, let's briefly examine the ignorance that threatens to destroy a cartoonist for the New York Post, and then I'll tie it all back to Mancow and Cassidy.

Many people are wrongly assuming that cartoonist Sean Delonas had racist intentions with his now infamous cartoon that shows two cops standing over a dead chimpanzee, as we noted here yesterday.

In the cartoon, one cop says to the other, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill." People rushed to judgement and assumed that the chimpanzee represented Barack Obama, because those idiots wrongly think that Obama wrote the stimulus bill. He did not.

Facts did not stop Mancow Muller and Pat Cassidy from perpetuating the ignorant slurs against Delonas this morning on WLS 890 AM, a station that used to be good but has lately lost its way. Mancow & Cassidy is a still-new morning show from 10-12, M-F.

Mancow had a sidekick named "Turd" for years on another radio station. Cassidy seems to be a good heir to "Turd." He should be called "Crap." It must be said, however, that Turd was funnier. And smarter.

Barack Obama is NOT the author of the stimulus bill. The primary author is Rep. David Obey (D-WI), a white dude. Obey did not write it alone, but with input from many other people.

Did Obama help to tweak it a bit? Maybe, but he's not credited as the author. Bottom line: millions of idiots (including Mancow Muller and Pat "Turd 2.0" Cassidy) are saying that the cartoon is racist. Cassidy, Muller's lackluster sidekick on "Mancow & Cassidy," said this morning on the air that the chimpanzee was obviously supposed to be Barack Obama, and that depicting the killing of the president is illegal. Cassidy is an idiot. (See "The Left's Shameful Slurring Of Monkey Cartoonist")

Cassidy and Mancow, like millions of others, are just plain wrong. There was nothing "obvious" about the cartoon. If "Turd" Cassidy, a former news head at WBBM 780 AM, would pick up a newspaper now, and then he would know that Barack Obama did not write the stimulus bill. Did Cassidy imagine the word "Obama" on the cartoon chimp? Did Cassidy hallucinate that the cartoon cops said anything about Obama? Effing moron.

So, the race-baiting Left - and other ignorant morons like Mancow and Cassidy - are accusing a cartoonist of racism for completely invalid reasons.

When It Comes to Bloggers, Mancow Doesn't Get It

UPDATE, FEB. 11, 2010: Pink slip for Erich 'Mancow' Muller - Chicago Tribune I was interviewed this week by one of the newspapers here in Chicago. The topic was blogging, bloggers and their effect on local politics. This morning, I wrote the following to the reporter who interviewed me, and I wanted to share it with you. I wanted to briefly add something to what I said on the phone. I think it was Monday of this week when I heard Mancow on WLS; he dissed bloggers in a typical and unfair way. To paraphrase Mancow, he said that bloggers just copy a few lines out of newspapers' online articles and add a few snarky comments. Uh huh. Prior to that, Mancow's show was all about him making snarky comments about items in the news, on which he provided no original reporting. After his remarks about bloggers, the rest of his show was (you guessed it), more of the same snarky comments about stories in the news, all of which he learned about in precisely the same way that your average blogger does. There is the hypocrisy of so much of the criticism of bloggers: It's okay if a Mancow or a George Will make snarky remarks on current events that they learned about from news organizations, but for some reason, when a blogger does exactly the same thing, he/she is criticized for it. Furthermore, for a blogger to use information from a newspaper to base a blog story on is, in practice and effect, virtually no different from a newspaper using news wire copy [e.g., Associated Press or Reuters]. The obvious differences are these: The newspaper pays the wire service for the copy, whereas both the wire service and the paper consciously put the story on the web, where they not only know it will be picked up by bloggers, but they also hope it will be picked up by bloggers because that gives the story more eyeballs. Not only that, but the better bloggers out there are very conscientious about giving proper credit to sources and will link directly to a source, which in turn gives the newspaper's web site many more clicks (and more eyes for their advertisements) than it would get without links from the bloggers. Conversely, newspapers are frequently tipped off to news stories by reading about them on blogs, but rarely credit the blogger as the original source. The starkest example of this that I can think of is the coverage of local politics. In 2007, the Trib and the Sun-Times provided scarce and scanty reports of the aldermanic races. In many neighborhoods, that information void was filled by local bloggers. Mancow, however, either misses a crucial piece of the picture or chooses to dismiss it. That piece is the fact that virtually all of the bigger bloggers (I include myself in that, although I like to say that I'm at the bottom of the top) include significant original content on their blogs. The commentary that I might add to an article in the Chicago Trib, for example, usually adds more information to the story (often by drawing from other news orgs, but frequently from my own information or direct observation). We add to the conversation and fortify the information that's out there, while providing what amounts to an aggregation service for the readers of our web sites. Mark Josephson, CEO, Outside.in, summed it up well in a commentary he published on June 4, 2008 about hyperlocal news coverage by bloggers, (Outside.in is the organization that designated Rogers Park as the fifth bloggiest neighborhood in the U.S.) Josephson wrote: "We are huge fans of the incredible group of individuals blogging about their local communities. The quantity and quality of these hyperlocal bloggers is exploding, and their ability to cover more news and information at the hyperlocal level far outweighs that of a hand-picked, full-time “traditional” editorial team. We are tracking more than 140 discrete hyperlocal content sources in Chicago alone, for example. (Great examples of hyperlocal news coverage are here and here.)" Josephson's article is available here. Kind regards, Tom Mannis Chicago News Bench Subscribe to Chicago News Bench

WLS and Mancow: WTF???

UPDATE, FEB. 11, 2010: Pink slip for Erich 'Mancow' Muller - Chicago Tribune Chicago talk show host Jerry Agar no longer has his Monday-Friday gig at WLS 890 AM Chicago. That's a shame. Agar, a native of Canada, has an all-American attitude and was a welcome voice of reasoned political critique on the local airwaves. WLS, however, seemed to thing differently. Agar, a smart, decent and funny man, is being replaced by a Mancow Muller, a guy who for years had a sidekick named "Turd." Mancow debuts on Monday, Oct. 27 in the 9-11:00 a.m. slot. Let us hope that Mancow - and WLS management - will keep "Turd" off the new show. But then, a turd by any other name... ChicagoRadio&TV.com wonders what the hell the geniuses at WLS were thinking, too. They present some of the back story: It was the rumor that wouldn’t die. For over two years, the rumblings within the Chicago broadcast community had been that Mancow Muller would be resurfacing on WLS after being unceremoniously bounced from Q101. The signs all seemed to be pointing to the certainty of such a move. After all, WLS PD Kipper McGee came to WLS from Talk Radio Network, where he helped launch the national syndication of Mancow Muller. At the same time, WLS was facing the prospect of having to replace its heritage morning show of Don Wade & Roma, who have held sway in morning drive for nearly two decades. FULL ARTICLE.... If True, WLS 890 AM Now SUCKS

UPDATE, FEB. 11, 2010: Pink slip for Erich 'Mancow' Muller - Chicago Tribune Now even conservative WLS 890 AM in Chicago is joining in the Dumbing Down of America. In a bizarre move, management of WLS has decided to replace funny, intelligent host Jerry Agar with vulgar, idiot host Mancow Muller. The Chicago Tribune reports today: Erich "Mancow" Muller, who lost his last full-time Chicago radio job 27 months ago, has agreed to host a weekday talk show for Citadel Broadcasting's WLS-AM 890.Mike Fowler, WLS-AM's president and general manager, confirmed that Muller will replace Jerry Agar in the 9-to-11 a.m. slot, beginning Monday. For his first week, he will be paired with Pat Cassidy, who joined WLS from WBBM-AM 780 this summer. Tragic. I guess I'll have to start listening to WIND 560 AM more. Sorry WLS, you've lost a lot of listeners with this stupid move. Agar has been a frequent sit-in for nationally syndicated talk show host Mark Levin. I have a feeling that we haven't heard the last of Jerry Agar. RELATED: The Bench - On the Air at WLS * Agar the Magnificent * Jerry Agar, Regular Guy
