Homeless Man Begs For Help, Thousands Ignore Him

July 7, 2014 - "On the Fourth of July," he said, "I had more donations from non-Americans than from Americans. Poor Mexicans in pickup trucks are more likely to give me a buck than a guy in a new Porsche."

That's what a 59-year old homeless man in Houston, TX said last Monday. Thousands of Americans, many with crosses hanging from their rear view mirrors, pretended they couldn't even see the man. Some gave him dirty looks. The worst: Wealthy people in ultra-expensive cars like BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches, Range Rovers, Cadillacs and Jaguars. Read all about it at The Homeless Patriot........

Absurdly Restrictive Homeless Shelter in Houston

Star of Hope shelter, Houston TX
Homeless Patriot talks about a homeless shelter in Houston, Texas that treats its "customers" like work release prisoners:

"To be there, I realized, would be to effectively lock myself up. With no or very limited funds, I can't afford to take public transit to look for work. If I'm put out on the street everyday, I would not be able to use my computer at a wifi coffee shop as I am doing right now. My computer would let me do that if Star of Hope allowed it.

In addition, I make a little scratch from ad revenue on my websites. Many shelters in Chicago have rules and regulations, naturally, but most have 10:00 p.m. as the time that you must return. That's not unreasonable. Six o'clock is just insane. The ban on cell phones and computer usage is megalomaniacal." More at Homeless Patriot...

54 Ways You Can Help The Homeless

Rabbi Kroloff
This is the best list of suggested ways to help homeless I've run across. I found this list of 35 ways to help the homeless at JustGive.org. It is something we should all be aware of and think about more.

Please share this list: It just might save a life.

A more detailed version (the original) exists and is also a must-read. JustGive.org acknowledges that the list was reprinted by permission of Rabbi Charles A. Kroloff, author of "54 Ways You Can Help The Homeless." Read that book for free or just go straight to Rabbi Kroloff's list.

Inconvenient Truths: Poverty Up, Crime Down (Again)

June 13, 2012 - The FBI said this week that violent crime in the U.S. declined for the fifth year in row. At the same time, poverty in the U.S. has increased. "Well, well, well," opines The Homeless Patriot. "I wonder how my liberal friends are coping with this news. Those FBI stats must be making them crazy. In fact, the FBI's statistics completely blow apart two of the biggest lies. Needless to say, nobody in left-leaning mainstream media is mentioning concealed-carry as a possible factor in the lower murder rates." Read the full post at Homeless Patriot...

Chicago, Meet Your Future

Budget overruns and shortfalls. Crooked politicians. Crumbling infrastructure. Taxes so damned high that residents and businesses move out. Shoppers drive miles out of their way to avoid the sales taxes here. Conventions are leaving. With a hat tip to iOwnTheWorld.com, the video below shows what Chicago's future looks like if it continues to follow the course it's been on... Ten Ways That Profits Help the Poor

Jerry Agar has another thought provoking list for us. His latest (Oct. 8) is called "10 Ways Profits Help the Poor." Jerry can be heard on WGN 720 AM in Chicago Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-9 p.m., and on Sundays Noon-4 p.m. (depending on live sports coverage). He has worked at other superstations, such as WLS in Chicago and WABC New York. He is currently also involved with the Illinois Policy Institute. Jerry prefaces his list with a quote from William Easterly, professor of economics at New York University and visiting fellow at Brookings: by Jerry Agar "The number of poor people who can't afford food for their children is a lot smaller than it used to be -- thanks to capitalism. Capitalism didn't create malnutrition, it reduced it. The globalization of capitalism from 1950 to the present has increased annual average income in the world to $7,000 from $2,000. Contrary to popular legend, poor countries grew at about the same rate as the rich ones. This growth gave us the greatest mass exit from poverty in world history. The parts of the world that are still poor are suffering from too little capitalism. Foreign direct investment in Africa today, although rising, amounts to only 1% of global flows. That's because the environment for private business in Africa is still hostile. There are some industry and country success stories in Africa, but not enough." ~ William Easterly, professor of economics at New York University and visiting fellow at Brookings Contrary to those claims that capitalism only favors the rich and that capitalists are in competition with the poor, profits are of immense help to the poor, whether or not they directly receive it. Here are ten reasons: 1. Employment. Profit equals investment which equals employment. The paychecks that employees get are a slice of the gross profits that any business makes. The best way to overcome poverty is to work. 2. Education. The best way to get work is to be educated. The poor can’t pay for it, so others do, out of their profits, and provide it free of charge to the poor. 3. Health. Miraculous medical advances and drugs come from profitable companies in capitalist nations, but the poor of the world benefit. AIDS drugs for Africa, for example. Hospitals in America will treat, free of charge, any person showing up at the emergency room, regardless of ability to pay. But someone pays, and that is someone who has made a profit and has the available funds. See the rest of Jerry Agar's list at the Illinois Policy Institute web site! They Still Live

"Both communism and the New Left are alive and thriving here in America," wrote Linda Kimball for American Thinker. "They favor code words: tolerance, social justice, economic justice, peace, reproductive rights, sex education and safe sex, safe schools, inclusion, diversity, and sensitivity. All together, this is Cultural Marxism disguised as multiculturalism."

"[My organization] is proud to have played a key role in helping bring the Boys and Girls Clubs to Rogers Park," wrote Jim Ginderske in the News-Star. He went on to say that the new Gale Community Center would help to "build the healthy and sustainably diverse community all of us crave."

By "sustainably diverse," did Ginderske mean to say that he would like to see the status quo of a reliable voting bloc of poor black people sustained in Rogers Park? Would he care to explain this buzz phrase? Did he, perhaps, really mean "sustainable poverty?"

Rich Guy Edwards Drops Out of Race

Multimillionaire John Edwards has dropped out of the 2008 Presidential Campaign. A report from the liberal Reuters news service noted that, "Given that 47 million U.S. citizens lack health insurance and there is a vast gulf in incomes between the richest and poorest Americans one might expect social equality would be a priority for many voters."

Hmmm. Depending on where you read it or who says it, the number of uninsured ranges from 30 million to 50 million. Which is it, already? And why do they never tell us that there are at least 10 million illegal aliens counted in that group? Furthermore, many young people who can afford health insurance opt out on it, feeling they don't need it yet or preferring to spend the money on other things.

As for the statement from Reuters that "there is a vast gulf in incomes between the richest and poorest Americans," well duh. See, folks, it is precisely a vast gulf in incomes between folks that makes them rich or poor. I see some of the poorest Americans every day in Rogers Park, Chicago. Most of them are overweight and buying chips and soda pop with their Illinois Link Card (an electronic food stamps card).

As for John Edwards, The Bench hears that he has big plans for his post-campaign life. He will no longer spend $400 a pop on haircuts, he will sell his mansion and live in a simple one bedroom apartment, and give the vast majority of his wealth to the Salvation Army.

No wait. We're just kidding about that post-campaign stuff.

Is "Poverty Plague" Propaganda?

The Census Bureau...report will show, as it has in recent years that around 37 million people live in official poverty. Presidential candidate John Edwards, who hopes to lead the nation in a new crusade against poverty, will, no doubt, seek to reap much publicity from the report. In the past, Edwards has claimed that poverty in America is a “plague” which forces 37 million Americans to live in “terrible” circumstances. According to Edwards, an amazing “one in eight” Americans lack “enough money for the food, shelter, and clothing they need,” caught in a daily “struggle with incredible poverty.” — Robert Rector, writing today [August 27th] in the National Review Online
Listen to talk show host Mark Levin read from Rector’s report. He commented, “This is what the liberals, the socialists want you to believe about your country. You know it’s not true but this is what they want you to believe because we have an ‘official’ number.”

Howard Avenue: Ain't Nobody's Business

Howard Avenue sucks. Why mince words. A multimillion dollar, taxpayer funded facility where kids can play basketball is being built. How many jobs will that provide? How many business owners will say to themselves, "Say! There's a big fat gummint playground with a basketball court on Howard Avenue now, so that's the perfect place for my new restaurant!" None, that's how many. Well, a few of the locally sanctuary food carts might decide to hang around the new gummint daycare/basketball center. Toni Duncan at 24/7 North of Howard Watchers takes a no-holds-barred look at the current condition of sad, sad Howard Avenue. But then, that's Toni's style. Read it and weep.
