Big Brother Pizza, Can I Help You?

Big Brother is watching you, we know this. The Comrade Obama Regime is giving Big Bro even more power to intrude into our (theoretically) private business, and not just with nationalized health care. Here's a video (flash) from the ACLU (click to watch) that is not only funny as heck, it's a brilliant sendup of the nanny state and government intrustion into every facet of our lives. Fontana Grill Gets Liquor License

Finally, one of my favorite restaurants on the northside of Chicago will get its liquor license. Fontana Grill & Wine Bar has been BYOB since it opened last autumn. I had dinner in the cozy and intimate restaurant on Friday, Feb. 13, and owner Nino Divanovic pulled me aside tonight and said the city told him earlier this week that his liquor license has been approved. Nino said they hope to start selling wine, beer and liquors "next weekend," and he plans to host wine tastings frequently. My friend had the NY strip and I had the rack of lamb (Nino's personal favorite). Both were cooked to perfection, and the excellent potatoes au gratin and grilled asparagus spears rounded out both plates nicely. Sadly, we forgot to bring a bottle of wine; we forgot that Fontana Grill was still a bring-your-own establishment. Only for another week, thank goodness, and the next time I go I'll be able to order an adult beverage from Fontana's own stock. Tip: Some of the best calamari I've ever had, and when the weather gets warm they have a beautiful cobblestone outdoor patio. Great stone-fired thin crust pizzas, too, and if you just want something simple, Fontana's burgers are excellent. 1329 W Wilson Ave (between Beacon Street and Malden Street, between N. Broadway and N. Clark) Chicago, IL 60640 (773) 561-0400 http://www.fontanagrill.com/ For more information, see a review at Metromix. CNB RSS Feed

It's Been a Slice, Adios

It's been a slice! Snoodles has learned that Alan, the beloved counter guy at JB Alberto's for over 16 years, has a new job! That's right! He's GONE! Adios! He's gone to greener pastures. Congrats Alan!

Speaking of JB Alberto's Pizza on Morse Avenue in Rogers Park, how come they only advertise their job openings in Spanish language publications? Or am I missing something?

Speaking of JB Alberto's Pizza on Morse Avenue in Rogers Park, a young lady told me the other night that she will never eat at JB's again, now that Alan's gone. "He's an institution!" she said, "I grew up getting pizza from Alan!" Several other customers gathered around Alan and Snoodles, eager to find out whas up. "Alan quit!" the young lady said. Congratulations mixed with regret poured from the young folks, eager to slap Alan on the shoulder and wish him good luck. "Man, this guy should own the place!"

Speaking of JB Alberto's Pizza on Morse Avenue in Rogers Park, the aforementioned young lady tells Snoodles that there's a lot of sex goin' on "in the back" of JB's "before they open." Really? "Yes," she alleged, "sometimes I see girls going to the back, by they door, you know, and they do them right there! And do they wash they hands before they make the food?"

Hmmm, Snoodles doesn't know, but surely those girls scrub themselves thoroughly before they service the food handlers. One hopes!
