Joe Moore Supporter, Slum Lord Jay Johnson in Court

Yesterday a judge ordered another inspection of a Rogers Park apartment building in April. Six children died in a fire there in September 2006. The WLS Channel 7 video Jay Johnson, owner of the building at 7706 N. Marshfield in Rogers Park (Chicago), was sued by family members for liability in the deaths of five children, ages 3 to 14, who died in a fire inside an apartment in the building. The sixth child who died thre was a family friend who was visiting. The family had no electricity and was using candles for light. "By order of a Cook County housing judge," says WLS, "apartment three at 7706 N. Marshfield will remain vacant until repairs are made and the entire building has been inspected for safety and building requirements." All the repairs in the world, of course, will not bring back the six dead children. Jay Johnson has donated thousands of dollars to the election campaign of 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore. The building is located within Moore's ward.
