July 2, 2008 - A Chicago police officer was killed early this morning during a routine patrol. Officer Richard Francis, 60, died after a woman grabbed his gun away and shot him. The 27-year CPD veteran was pronounced dead at 2:57 a.m. at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Officer Francis became the first Chicago police officer to be killed by gunfire while on duty since 2002.
