Mayor Daley's Slight of Hand

Jim Laski used to be a Chicago Alderman. He was involved with the Hired Truck Scandal. He made horrible decisions, broke the law, was busted and did time in prison. While behind bars, he wrote a book about his mistakes, drug addiction, boozing, and getting mixed up with the wrong crowd. And just who is "the wrong crowd?" Why, Chicago politicians, of course.

Laski self published the book, "My Fall From Grace," which in book stores now. Predictably, Mayor Daley is attacking Mr. Laski in this dispicable way (Sun-Times):

“Jim Laski’s had a lot of personal problems in his life and challenges. I know his family. [He should] just get on with his wife, get on with his family and handle his own situation. I’m not gonna [respond] to his personal challenges…He had a lot of personal challenges even today. He should get on with his life,” Daley said.

Mayor Daley, a Democrat, just couldn't help himself. Rather than address the issues honestly, he tries to divert us away from the real issue by slandering a guy who has done his time and straightened himself out - and is telling the whole sordid story. This is a typical trick of liberals like Daley. So sadly typical. Attempting slight of hand, the Magician Mayor Daley tries to divert our eyes from what he is really doing with the other hand, the hand doing the tricks.

More from the Sun-Times:

“When is he gonna have the guts to stand up and tell the truth? It’s typical Daley. Blame somebody else. He’ll never take responsibility for anything. He throws out these slanderous statements about people and he’s just blatantly lying. Maybe he better take a look at himself in the mirror,” Laski said.

“Now he’s gonna say I had personal problems and challenges and impugn my credibility because I openly admitted that I drank too much and took pills and try to say I’m crazy or something? Don’t insult my intelligence and don’t insult the people of Chicago’s intelligence. His feathers are ruffled. Somebody called him on something and he doesn’t like it. He’s the mayor. He’s not God. Take responsibility.”

Laski, 54, plead guilty in 2006 to accepting $48,000 in bribes in exchange for steering Hired Truck business to lifelong friend Mick Jones. He also admitted that he coached a witness to lie to a grand jury. FULL STORY...

Reminds me of last year's 49th Ward Aldermanic race. With no real issues to talk about, Alderman Joe Moore (a Democrat) slandered challenger Jim Ginderske (a Democrat) via proxy by calling him "a Republican who just wants to get rid of the black people." Later, during the run-off struggle in March and April, Ginderske had gone over to Moore's side. Ginderske's camp gleefully joined with Moore in slandering run-off challenger Don Gordon (a Democrat) calling him a Nazi and a racist and, of course, a Republican. Typical. So sadly, sadly typical.
