Updated: Sun Prairie Cardinals Crush Beloit Memorial Knights 50-0; Town Spirit High for Sun Prairie Homecoming Football Game

UPDATED, 9:45 PM - The Sun Prairie Cardinals varsity football team was unstoppable tonight, creaming the Beloit Memorial Purple Knights 50-0. It was quite a homecoming game for Sun Prairie. The Cardinals play the Madison West Regents on Friday, October 14. Beloit Memorial's next game, the same day, will be against the Verona Area High School Wildcats. The Cats scratched the Cardinals on August 19 (see below), and the Regents turned out Knights' lights on Sept. 30, beating them 33-7 (making for a sad Beloit homecoming). Beloit Memorial vs. Sun Prairie: Ashley Field, Sun Prairie - 7:30 p.m. Sun Prairie, WI - October 7, 2011 - The local spirit is high as the Sun Prairie Cardinals hope for a big win against the Beloit Memorial Purple Knights at tonight's much anticipated Homecoming football game.
The season did not start well for the Sun Prairie Cardinals. They suffered a humiliating 28-10 home field loss to nearby rival Verona on August 19. (See highlights of the Verona - Sun Prairie football game here.) The entire town of Sun Prairie is excited about tonight's game. Earlier this week, students and some parents walked through downtown Sun Prairie and painted some school spirit onto merchants' windows. We've shared our photos of those windows here; click images to enlarge them. The Sun Prairie Cardinals are having a good season so far, despite that loss to Verona. Since that game, the Cardinals have played six games, losing only one. They've racked up some huge scores along the way, both away and at home. One week after losing to Verona, Sun Prairie emasculated Madison East with a score of 55-9 at home. The following week, Sun Prairie had an away game victory when they defeated Janesville Craig 51-20. On Sept. 16, Madison Memorial was embarrassed at home when Sun Prairie scored 51 points to Memorial's 27. The Sun Prairie Cardinals were the conference champions in 2007, 2009 and 2010. The Beloit Knights are said to be "the worst team" in the Big Eight Conference currently, and so there is much optimism that the Cardinals will not be humiliated on their own field this evening.
