I missed last night's community meeting, held for the purpose of making it look like Alderman Moore was seeking the people's input into a foregone zoning change at 7313-15 N. Sheridan Road. Let me offer this from friend Kheris, and then The Bench's own poop. Kheris was at the meeting last night and she hurried home to write this [emphasis added]:
"Rich Aronson presented his proposal for the Sheridan parcel to a very large (70-100?) crowd in a meeting that ran from 7:20 - 10:35 PM. Consensus: parking is a huge issue and so is the possible precedent that could be set by upzoning the parcel. Chase on the Lake was represented and made it clear they will oppose any approvals. Per Joe the ZALUAC will be meeting June 11, 2008. Expect a decision around then.I just got home but there is more to tell and I will do so in a post tomorrow. I took copious notes." [Source]
Watch Kheris's Living Room in Rogers Park blog for updates. Bill Morton has video here. Craig attended the meeting and has comments and info.
Back on March 9, The Bench offered this nugget: "Is there any connection to the planned demolition of the North Shore School on Chase, or is this just a coincidence?" The parking lot where the North Shore School once stood is very, very convenient to the lot at 7313-15 N. Sheridan Road. "Walk to the rear of the lot and you have a very clear view of Lake Michigan. The lot is not very large. Hypothesis: A residential building here would have little or no room for parking. But the alley behind it connects it to Chase. Hmmm. A parking lot on Chase would certainly be mighty convenient to this address." Some folks guffawed at this, but The Bench maintains more than ever that there is likely a connection.
A well-informed source tell The Bench that developer Aronson has been talking to the owners of Shambhala Meditation Center at 7331 N. Sheridan Road, immediately north of the lot at 7313-15 N. Sheridan Road. If Rich Aronson were to obtain the lots at 7331 and 7313-15, and also the Chase Apartments property at 7301 N. Sheridan Road, he would have the entire N. Sheridan Road "face" of that block between W. Chase Avenue on the south and W. Sherwin Avenue on the north.
Rich Aronson, a principal of Stage Development Company, LLC, Camelot Development LLC, and Camelot Realty of America, Inc. located in Chicago’s Loop, is a life-long Chicago resident and currently lives in the East Rogers Park neighborhood. [Source]
