A Liberal Mourns Bill Buckley

With the death of William F. Buckley, novelist, philosopher, patriot, inspirer to many, some few petty people chose to mock him. Yes, he had a funny (but endearing) way of talking. But many liberals and democrats understood Buckley, and even if they disagreed with his philosophy, they admired his gargantuan intellect and gentlemanly demeanor. To wit, this fine email to The Bench: I have been in mourning. I loved Bill Buckley. And never more than when he kicked Gore Vidal's ass. To tell the truth, I aspired to BE William Buckley. Who wouldn't? I am a miserable liberal, Tom. I am a traitor. There are conservatives that I adore. Several, actually. Bill was one of them. Thanks for the sweet email. Indeed, there are liberals (small "l") and Democrats that get my adoration, as well.
