Communication Breakdown
This story is dedicated to Joe Moore's Emails, Facsimiles & General Communications Department:
It's 1990 and I'm sitting in an office in Culver City, CA. I've got half a dozen phone lines ringing and guys to deal with on the two-way radio. It's nuts. Lady calls from New York.
"Did you get the schedule for Mr. X's visit next week?" she asks.
"I don't know," I say, "give me twenty minutes, I'll check and call you back."
I check. I don't find it. I call her back.
"Nothing," I say, "can you fax another copy to me?"
"I can't," says she.
"Why not?" says I.
"I only have one copy of X's schedule." It took me a split second to realize what she was saying.
"Okay," I said, "do you have a photocopier?" She did. "Good," I said, "Make a photocopy of X's schedule and fax the copy to me." She did.
