If I Had A Hammer

If you feel disrepsected, should you: A - kill your family with hammer? B - Videotape confession on cell phone? C - Both A and B? So asks digitaljournal.com of Canada. But this is not funny. It is tragic. The Sun-Times reports on the tragic multiple murder, alluded to above, which happened in West Rogers Park: "A man charged with the beating death of his wife and two female relatives allegedly videotaped himself on his cell phone after the attack, apologizing and saying he felt he had been disrespected, a law enforcement source said Sunday. "Images taken from the cell phone of 56-year-old Daryoush Ebrahimi were being reviewed by investigators in hopes they can determine a motive for the Saturday attack that left his wife, sister-in-law and mother-in-law dead, said Belmont Area Cmdr. Tom Byrne." Full article... This is a sad, sad story. Serious questions are raised by this incident. Already, apologists are crawling out from under their rocks to try to "explain" the actions of Ebrahimi. This morning on WBBM-AM, I heard a sound bite from some idiot who said we must understand that the poor man had been under stress and that, to paraphrase, this was not unusual behavior in his native culture. So we should have sympathy for the killer because, apparently, it was society's fault? Aren't we tired of that hackneyed expression yet? Time and investigation will, we hope, reveal the causes of Ebrahimi's actions. He may have mental problems, for all I know, and in fact I do not pretend to know. But to hint at some degree of forgiveness or sympathy because it may (or may not have) been permitted by his native culture is despicable, not to mention premature. Note: While I am no fan of Alderman Joe Moore, to link him to this heinous crime, as some other bloggers have done, is also despicable and completely unfair.
