Tammy Duckworth: Tax Cheat?

Tammy Duckworth: Tax Cheat?
August 23, 2012 - Tammy Duckworth is running for Congress against incumbent Joe Walsh in the 8th District. Walsh has some new political ammo to use against his rival. It seems that Duckworth "improperly claimed two homeowner exemptions at once over a period of several years, a Daily Herald investigation has found."

Gosh! A Democrat cheating on taxes? Say it ain't so! According to reports, Duckworth's spokesman Kaitlin Fahey "said Duckworth was unaware she had been claiming two homeowner exemptions between 2007 and 2010."

Really? Is Duckworth really that stupid, that unaware of her own homeowner finances? Or does she think that voters are really so stupid that they'll believe that she didn't know about her own claimed exemptions?

The Daily Herald notes that tax records "show Duckworth claimed homestead exemptions in both DeKalb and Cook counties from 2007 to 2010," and that Illinois law says that only one exemption can be claimed "on the property that is their primary residence."

"Duckworth says she'll pay the approximately $1,900 she saved over the four years and a late fee," reports NBC Chicago.
