Violent Threat "More Police Will Be Shot"
Hat tip to Second City Cop for bringing this ominous story to our attention. CBS2 reports today that threat was made to the Chicago Police Department. That threat, in part: "More police will be shot...gang bangers in the area are passing the word...every night they will be ambushing police in the Chatham area." SCC comments, "But of course, the minute we take appropriate, logical and reasonable actions against some mope sneaking in to look for a quick payday, J-Fled [CPD Supt. Jody Weis] will be right there with a bus to run us over. Does anyone doubt that for even a second? In the meantime, how about two cars for every call, don't wave off your assist and f--- the backlog." More at Second City Cop... FoxNews, of course, has a better report that the one at CBS2: An email warning Chicago police that gang members would be trying to kill them has officers on alert. The email was written on Monday, apparently by a member of the Chicago Police Department's SWAT team. The subject line said: "FYI--Officer safety." The email goes on to say "per area two detectives, phone calls were received in both the 3rd and 6th Districts in which the caller stated 'More police will be shot. Gangbangers in the area are passing the word. Every night they will be ambushing police in the Chatham area.'" Meanwhile, Mayor Daley just keeps proving that he doesn't give a rat's behind about the safety of you, me or the city's police officers. He sits atop a semi-secret slush fund of hundreds of millions of dollars (a.k.a., the TIF fund), but refuses to release one dime of it to hire more police. The FoxNews report included this: Some Chicago aldermen are urging Mayor Daley to use Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds to pay for more police. The TIF fund is flush with half a billion dollars set aside for city projects. However, Mayor Daley rejects the idea of using TIF funds. No, Daley thinks that TIF funds are better used for more important things, like subsidizing private sector developers in Uptown or fueling Helen Shiller's fish farm fantasies. Safety must take a back seat to those kinds of items. Meanwhile, idiot Alderman Ed Burke suggests that police should work on their days off to combat gangs. Perhaps Ed Burke could work on his days off to formulate an honest explanation why, as the guy who controls the city's purse strings, he can't convince City Hall to release some of the TIF slush dough for more street cops.
