Townhall Meeting With Dick Durbin, Jan Schakowsky, June 26

A nationwide public forum on a scale that the ancient Greeks could only have dreamed of will take place on Saturday, June 26. Illinois residents and thousands of concerned Americans in 18 cities across the country will participate in a National Town Meeting on the federal budget called "Our Budget, Our Economy." It is presented by AmericaSpeaks and the meeting’s goal is to get your input on tough choices about our federal budget "to ensure a sustainable fiscal future." Joining the townhall will be Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. The event is billed as a way of letting them know "how we’d fix America’s deficit problems." Steve Stevlic, Coordinator of Tea Party Patriots Chicago, says that TPPC and Illinois Tea have partnered with America Speaks for the event "to make sure the townhall is balanced and reflects diverse political opinion. They are recruiting people in the Tea Party Movement to participate in the event." Stevlic urges people to get involved. "Let’s take advantage of this amazing opportunity," he said, "by making sure our point of view is represented. Durbin and Schakowsky are participating in this meeting because they are members of President Obama's Debt Commission. Results of this meeting will be presented to the commission." In addition to the participation of Durbin and Schakowsky, Stevlic pointed out, "every participant will have an electronic keypad to record their votes following small group discussions on every issue. The votes will be broadcast both on the big screen and live, online across the country. Let's send Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett a message from Chicago." The Chicago event will take place at Navy Pier from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 26. Lunch will be provided. "Our Chicago site will be linked to other venues across the country via satellite," says Stevlic, "and webcast making it a true National Town Meeting." To join in this historic event, click www.usabudgetdiscussion.org/chicago to register. When registering, list "Tea Party" under "Organization." When asked "What organization or individual told you about this initiative?" enter "Chicago Tea Party."
