Best Chinese Restaurant on Chicago's North Side

In case you missed the big Chinese New Year Parade in Chicago's China Town on Cermak Road last weekend, or you want more festivities, you can enjoy another big celebration this weekend.

Get over to the parade at Chicago's "Chinatown North" on Argyle Street on Saturday, February 20 at 11:30 a.m. It's just off of N. Broadway Street, and with a Chinese-style CTA Red Line train station right there. My overall favorite is Sun Wah BBQ. See their menu at their web site.

I recommend you come hungry. While Chinatown-Argyle is much smaller than Chinatown-Cermak, it does have a good number of restaurants that offer a variety of East Asian cuisine, from Vietnamese to Korean to Thai and Chinese.

Sun Wah was on Argyle Street for many years, but recently moved just around the corner to 5039 N. Broadway. The new location's grand opening was on November 13, 2009. Family-owned Sun Wah is famous for having whole roasted ducks hanging in their window, a fixture on Argyle for so long.

Thankfully, their new location also has ducks (and chickens and more) hanging in the window, too. It's a much better location for them, being highly visible to motorists and more comfortable for patrons.

The space is much larger here, and the interior was gutted and beautifully refurbished to create a modern yet warm environment. The food - oh man, the food - is just as good as ever. Big portions at good prices, from a menu that offers an incredible variety of dishes, will make you a fan for life.
