Slideshow of Westboro Baptist Church Protest

Fred Phelps's family and followers of the Westboro Baptist Church staged a protest at Emanuel Congregation, a Jewish synagogue on the north side of Chicago at 11:15 this morning. Here is our slideshow of the non-violent event. About 200 counter-protesters of all walks of life stood in front of the synagogue, directly across the street from the Westboro Baptists. A large police presence was there as a preventative measure, but fortunately they did not need to intervene. After some shouting and a lot of sign waving, the event broke up as peacefully as it started. The hateful nutjobs moved on to more Chicago targets (see list here). Chicago News Bench broke this story on July 31 (at 3:11 pm). "The Bench is a terrific blog, covering issues from the national to the regional and very local (Rogers Park), and is a thumping good read." ~ Chicago Bungalow
