A Candidate Walks Into a Bar...

...and gives a little campaign speech for the video camera. His name is Jeff Smith, and he's running for the Illinois House of Representatives in the 18th Legislative District. In the video below, Smith spoke to the Northside DFA on July 2, 2009. Can Mr. Smith go to Springfield? Personally, I hope so. Sure, my first choice would be a conservative Republican, but the reality is that the 18th belongs to the Democrats. Therefore, the best available choice (in my opinion) is Jeff Smith. I do have some unsolicited advice for him, however: Note to Jeff Smith: Stop giving speeches in front of racks of liquor. Stop putting out videos made with cameras that can't handle low light conditions. Stop telling us that you were the first in your family to go to college - nobody really cares. Don't use the Argentina mistress joke ever again. Never, ever say that Jan Schakowsky and Julie Hamos are former reps of the 18th who are "a lot to live up to," because they represent all of the big money and special interest groups that you claim you don't represent. Stop chanting that "we must do something" and "we can do better" and "we can and we will" unless you are going to immediately followup with specific proposals to do so.) Leave a Comment...
