Photo du Jour, 10 March 2009

Alderman Joe Moore reaches out to a voter - as the voter sits in a polling booth - during the April 2007 aldermanic run-off election in the 49th Ward. This is a clear violation of election law. At 10:30 this morning (March 10), Moore and two other aldermen will stage a cheap media stunt at City Hall, 2nd Floor. Moore, Toni Preckwinkle and Ricardo Munoz will pretend to want more honesty in government. Their March 9 press release says: "The ongoing parade of political scandals at the federal state and local level have increased the deep public cynicism about the honesty and integrity of those elected to public service. Adding to this cynicism at the local level is the legal provision that exempts City Council members and their staffs from the investigatory oversight of the City of Chicago Inspector General. Alderman Moore and his colleagues will present a proposed ordinance that removes the exemption and provides additional measures to strengthen the Inspector General’s independence." You mean like illegally talking to a voter while she's voting? Or like leaning on developers for campaign donations? That kind of stuff?
