Bloggers React to Heartland Cafe License Suspension

On Friday, March 13, Rogers Park woke up to learn that the infamous Heartland Cafe, 7000 N. Glenwood, had been shut down by health inspectors. The reaction to the Heartland Cafe's license suspension by the City of Chicago late last week is burning up the local blogosphere. Located in Rogers Park, a far northeast neighborhood in Chicago, the Heartland Cafe has long had a duel reputation: Among old hippies and young, wannabe hippies, it has been revered as a "vegetarian" joint (even though they serve plenty of meat items); To normal people, it has long been known as a grimy, overpriced place that had a big photo of Mao hanging in the bar. The blog reaction, therefore, is fascinating to read. Some selected posts from blogs, between Friday, March 13 through Monday, March 16.
