Australia - At least 35 people have died in some of the worst wildfires in the nation's history. Over 247,105 acres (100,000 hectares) have burned or are still on fire in the Australian state of Victoria. The official death toll will undoubtedly rise as more bodies are discovered and the fires continue to rage. It is feared that many people are trapped in their homes. According to Australia's Country Fire Authority (CFA), "Today Sun, 8 Feb 2009 has been declared a Day of Total Fire Ban for the whole State of Victoria. No fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air from midnight on Sat, 7 Feb 2009 until midnight tonight."
