ALERT - FLOOD WATCH ILLINOIS AND INDIANA

FLOOD WATCH Warning Issue Date: 907 PM CST TUE FEB 10 2009 (For updates click here) ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM CST /4 AM EST/ WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON... THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR * PORTIONS OF ILLINOIS AND INDIANA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN ILLINOIS...COOK...DUPAGE...FORD...GRUNDY... IROQUOIS...KANE...KANKAKEE...KENDALL...LA SALLE...LAKE IL... LIVINGSTON AND WILL. IN INDIANA...BENTON...JASPER...LAKE IN... NEWTON AND PORTER. * FROM 3 AM CST /4 AM EST/ WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON * A LOW WILL MOVE FROM OKLAHOMA TO MICHIGAN LATE TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. HEAVY RAIN WILL OCCUR SOUTH AND EAST OF A LINE FROM CENTRAL CHICAGO THROUGH JOLIET TO STREATOR ILLINOIS. THIS INCLUDES MOST OF NORTHWEST INDIANA. MOST OF THE HEAVY RAIN WILL OCCUR BETWEEN 6 AM CST AND NOON CST WEDNESDAY MORNING. RAIN WILL BEGIN AFTER MIDNIGHT AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. * THE GROUND REMAINS SATURATED AND FROZEN FROM RECENT SNOW MELT AND THE RECENT PERIOD OF VERY COLD TEMPERATURES. MUCH OF THE HEAVY RAIN THAT FALLS WILL QUICKLY RUN INTO STREAMS...CREEKS AND EVENTUALLY LARGER RIVERS...SOME OF WHICH ARE ALREADY NEAR FLOOD STAGE OR COVERED WITH ICE. THUS FLOODING ALONG RIVERS AS WELL AS LOW LYING AREAS IS POSSIBLE. A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS.
