Joe Moore: Legislative Forum TODAY at 4:30 pm

Brilliant. Aldergenius Joe Moore sent an email TODAY at 11:30 a.m. to announce a legislavite forum/circle jerk at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. Five hours notice?!? That's some kind of record for stupidity, even for Joe. Nevermind that we're going to get slammed with a major snow storm before the meeting starts. Anyway, here's the text (more or less) of Joe's email blast today: Legislators to Discuss Recession Impact at Good News Community Kitchen Forum Dear Neighbor, Please join me for a LEGISLATIVE FORUM on the current economic crisis. Sponsored by Northside POWER , a grassroots community organization that profits from systemic hunger and poverty in Rogers Park, problems that I have not been able to meaningfully address in the 17 long years that I've been your alderman. The forum will be held TODAY, Thursday, December 18th, 4:30 p.m., at the Good News Community Kitchen, 7649 N. Paulina. (We're giving you really short notice for this because that way, that ass over at The Bench probably won't have time to make fun of this email before the meeting!) We should rejoice in the economic downturn of late. Just last February, my good friends at Lakeside Community Development Corporation and Northside POWER held a "sleep-in" to protest the rising cost of housing in Rogers Park. Now, prices have dropped dramatically, making home ownership more possible for more people than it's been in years! We have my pals Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and other Democrats in Congress to thank for this. After all, the evil Republicans tried for years to get Congress to clean up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but those brave Democrats resisted. I anticipate another sleep-in soon, but this time they will be expressing how happy they are now that home prices have dropped so much. Joining me will be several local Machine Democrats: Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (wife of my good friend Bobby Creamer), State Senator Heather Steans (who has donated around $200,000 to Rod Blagojevich over the years),State Representative Julie Hamos (great legs!), and Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin (who is fighting the Kankakee County Board by representing some guys who want to dump directly into Minnie Creek. Did you know Larry was once a lobbyist for Big Tobacco?). Together we will discuss efforts to address the human costs of the economic recession at the federal, state, county and city level. The panel will be moderated by Michael James, a self-avowed communist, President of the members-only, do-nothing 49th Ward Democratic Party, and co-owner of the Heartland Cafe, which has multiple liquor license violations on its record. The economic downturn has hit all levels of society, but those most directly affected are the poor, the unemployed and the homeless. As for me, well, the taxpayers of Chicago give me a fat six-figure salary. After I retire, I'll get virtually full medical benefits for life, all on your dime. So, I'm not worried at all, folks, but you should be. Come hear some local political hacks pretend that they know how to help those most vulnerable to the current crisis. It should be a hoot. Sincerely, Joe Moore
