With Obama's win, months of speculation about Chicago Alderman Joe Moore's future may be coming to an end. Moore, a staunch supporter of Barack Obama, has been the 49th Ward's representative in the City Council for 17 years. Many thought he might fill the seat of Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) if, in the event of an Obama victory, she was chosen to fill in the vacated Senate seat of Obama after he is sworn in as president in January, 2009. However, The Bench is getting some interesting signals that Joe Moore is too much of an embarrassment to the DNC and local Democrats. Obama, after all, is a local Democrat too, and sources tell The Bench that they don't want him anywhere near the White House. Obama's peeps have other plans for Alderman Moore, a 50 year old man in his second marriage and a lot on his mind, and one option is to appoint him to be our next ambassador to the backwater nation of Yemen, on the southern tip of the Saudi Peninsula. Other options on the table include ambassador to any other small Third World nation, or a position with the Department of the Interior in a national parks custodial role somewhere in the Northwest (possibly Yellowstone National Park). This story is still developing. Stay tuned for more text as we, uhm, have it available.
