Detroit's Hip-Hop Mayor Jailed

Democrat Kwame Kilpatrick, mayor of Detroit, was ordered locked up today. The embattled mayor had the audacity to leave town, thereby violating a bond that was recently revoked. Known as "the hip-hop mayor," he's gone from cool bad boy (in some people's eyes) to just plain bad. Meanwhile, Kandia Milton is now Detroit's acting mayor. Kilpatrick is in so much trouble for so many thing that it's getting difficult to keep track of it all. But man, what fun it is to watch this clown go down. Leaders in Detroit are saying that Kilpatrick must go. Too bad they didn't get rid of him a long time ago. Too bad, in fact, that he was ever elected. Indeed, today the Detroit Free Press poses this: "Question to Detroit: How long will you be Kwame Kilpatrick's fool?" (Note to Cook County in Illinois: Think Todd Stroger.) In late July, Kilpatrick's was ordered to undergo drug screening, according to ClickOn Detroit, "based on testimony from two detectives in the accusations that Kilpatrick assaulted Detective Brian White." But the fool thought he could sneak out of town, a violation of the court's orders. Today the Globe and Mail reports this: Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, charged with perjury and other felonies for his testimony in a civil trial, was ordered to jail Thursday because he violated his bond by taking a quick trip to Canada without notifying authorities. Mr. Kilpatrick apologized and acknowledged that he made a mistake when he visited Windsor, Ont., minutes away, on July 23 for city business. But 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles was not moved, saying he needed to treat the mayor like any other defendant. FULL STORY...
