Ah, Jimmy Boy, we thought we knew ye. We didn't, though, did we? Jim Ginderske ran against incumbent Joe Moore in the 49th Ward's February 2007 aldermanic campaign. He lost to Moore and immediately sucked up to him, serving as one of Moore's most dependable waterboys. But during the election, Jimmy Boy posted the following on his campaign web site. It's still pretty funny, considering the source.
Democratic government works best when its actions are subject to public scrutiny.
I will aggressively pursue allegations of corruption that have been ignored by our current representatives in the City Council.
I will end permanently the secretive deliberations of the Zoning and Land Use Advisory Committee. Such bodies serve as little more than information-restrictors that benefit certain favored parties at the expense of others.
A great benefit of transparency is the guidance people receive regarding issues and how Chicago government can be influenced through citizen action. I will help an informed Rogers Park citzenry advocate effectively on issues that impact our lives. Examples of this measure tax policy, lakefront issues, or school funding questions. There is no question about the dedication of Rogers Park residents to advocacy. What is needed is a straightforward line of communication accompanied by an alderman who is willing to lead us in the best direction.
Campaign contributions will be disclosed promptly, not delayed until forced reporting rules kick in.
I will demand that the City compile and release its “List of Restricted Donors to Political Campaigns”. This is the fourth year the City has failed to do this. It is held back because many incumbents violate its stipulations.
I will help build faith in our system by not accepting campaign contributions from people who are asking us to consider zoning changes.
