WATER LEAK ON MORSE AVENUE

Water, water everywhere. What some thought was a heavy snow melt on W. Morse Avenue in Rogers Park early this afternoon was actually a burst standpipe.

At approximately Noon today, an 8-inch water pipe blew its cap off . Water shot out at high pressure inside a partially constructed condo development at 1414 W. Morse Avenue, the former site of the Top Hat Lounge.

Thousands of gallons per minute flowed out of the unfinished building, running over the sidewalk and into the street. Pedestrians gingerly stepped over, around and through the water. The Chicago Fire Department was called and quickly capped the pipe. No injuries were reported, and there seemed to be no evidence of structural damage to the sidewalk, street or building.
