"Led Astray by Al Jolson Politics"
The Bench ripped into Cook County Commissioner William Beavers for blaming Todd Stroger's budget problems on racial issues. Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. has since done the same.
It is reassuring to see folks such as the honorable Jesse Jackson, Jr. saying essentially the same thing. Congressman Jackson, son of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, is his own man and not marching lockstep with his father. In his December 2nd editorial in the Chicago Tribune, Jackson uses blunt language that is all too rare for politicians these days. Many of you will be shocked to read such honesty from any politician, black or white, Democrat or Republican. Read this important editorial by Jesse, Jr.:
Fortunately, the new truth is this: No one -- black or white -- is buying Beavers' old-guard, old-thinking, backroom-dealing, race-card playing politics anymore. We've been hoodwinked, bamboozled, run amok and led astray by Al Jolson politics before.
