Kenya Erupting

The elections in the United States are pretty tame
compared to much of the world. The recent assassination of opposition leader Bhutto, for example, highlights the high tensions in other places. Coupled with high emotions and centuries of pent up tribal hatred, only bad things results. Kenya is going through a vicious election cycle currently, and it's every bit as dramatic as what is happening in Pakistan. Impatient for final official results from a vote held Thursday and suspicious that a delay was allowing for last-minute rigging, supporters of Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement started fires and looted shops Saturday in slums on the outskirts of the capital Nairobi.
