So far, we’re all stumped whenever we walk into the place. A recent showcase move seemed wacky - the bread aisle, no longer next to the bakery, is now in the center of the store. Change can be a good thing, but this makeover is taking months. It’s like stumbling into the bathroom one morning, reaching into the cabinet for your toothbrush, and instead pulling out a cold beer.
There’s a curious reference in the Crain’s article, noting that some Dominick’s stores pay “below market rent” for their space???

(Crain’s) — The founding family of Dominick’s Finer Foods, the DiMatteos, sold seven Chicago-area retail properties for about $75 million to investment advisory firm RREEF Real Estate.
The portfolio totals almost 425,000 square feet and includes Dominick’s stores in Evanston, Northfield and River Forest as well as two shopping centers anchored by Dominick’s stores: Town Square in Schaumburg and Gateway Centre in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. FULL ARTICLE...
