By Rebecca Rogers Park Bench Staff Writer Evanston, Illinois - Most Rogers Park residents are aware that tens of thousands of undocumented shopping dollars make the perilous trek each week across our border with the People’s Democratic Republic of Evanston in search of greater opportunity. This reality often provokes expressions of outrage, shame and calls for increased public spending to keep the dollars here at home. But few deny that many residents of Rogers Park are used to the better quality of life that this dollar migration brings. Rogers Park Bench takes you over the border to deep inside the PDR of E, to see where some of those dollars may go when they leave our shores… The Saturday Evanston Farmer's Market is in full swing. 30+ different producers of vegetables, fruits, herbs, meats, eggs, cheese, baked goods, flowers, plants…much of it organic or sustainably produced. Tomatoes and peaches with real flavor – hooray! Maple Ave. and University Place. 7 am – 2 pm are official hours, but realistically, get there between 6 am and 10 am for the best stuff. Parking is free. 708 Proposed Church Street Project. The City of Evanston will begin its review of the proposed project at 708 Church Street. The proposed project consists of a mixed use development containing 218 residential units and 28,650 sq. ft. of retail/office space. Presentation and public hearing, Wednesday, August 8, 7 pm Council Chambers, Evanston Ridge Center, 2100 Ridge Ave. The proposed project will be heard by the Evanston Plan Commission. The hearing will consist of a presentation by the development team. The public is invited to participate in accordance with the Plan Commission’s procedures.
