CPD's Got it "Under Control" (Not)

Two unrelated car crashes yesterday in the parking lot of Jarvis Plaza strip mall at N. Greenview and Jarvis in Rogers Park. First, at 10:50 a.m. yesterday, a woman drives her car through the front of Express Video. Then, around 8:15 p.m., there is a collision in the lot between two cars. Alderman Joe Moore's ward office is located in this strip mall.

I raced up
to the mall after I got a tip about an ambulance being dispatched there. Arriving at 8:30 p.m., I saw six police vehicles there. The ambulance was already gone by the time I arrived. An elderly woman was sitting in her car, not visibly injured. The front left portion of her car was dented a bit, but not severely. The car was sitting in the driveway into the parking lot on the Greenview side. Police were mum when I asked what happened.

Bench: Was this a hit and run?
CPD: Maybe.
Bench: Well, if it was a hit and run, did the other vehicle just take off?
CPD: Maybe.
Bench: Look, if it's a hit and run, let me and the other neighborhood bloggers put out a description of the other car.
CPD: We got it under control.

Right. They "got it under control." Seems more like they had it over-controlled. Six units hanging around for an elderly lady sitting uninjured in her slightly damaged car? The other vehicle, if there was one, not in sight? And if the CPD had it "under control," why not brag about catching the driver of the other vehicle? So much for police and community cooperation. The community tries to cooperate and the control freaks at CPD give evavise answers. That's the wrong kind of "control."
