Where Are Chicago's Cicadas?

They're here, but not everywhere quite yet. The suburban areas are getting them before those of us in the city. Here on Chicago's far north side in Rogers Park, I haven't seen or heard a single cicada to date. But the Chicago Tribune has a fun and informative article about the bugs' progress. Perhaps the invasion will happen on Memorial Day?

  1. Day 8:
Where are the Cicadas. Being a reasonable newbie to the midwest, I am looking forward to witnessing this phenomenon. But as I hear the daily "today is the day" prediction from the press, I become more cynical. I personally think they went to Miami to drink mojitos and celebrate memorial day in Little Cuba.

  2. I tried to take a soil temperature reading with my Sponge Bob Square Pants rectal thermometer (purchased for the dogs). Unfortunately, it does not register readings lower than 90 degress. What do you expect from a cheap Walgreens thermometer? But I had to try in the name of science.
