Morse Avenue's newest business, Common Cup, opens at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14.
It is located at 1501 W. Morse Avenue and it looks like a nice coffee shop, with soup and sandwiches, pastries and bagged coffee. The restaurant is situated right in the middle of a war zone of sorts. We wish them luck, we truly do.
In case the new business's owners are not yet fully aware of the common problems of Morse Avenue, here's a little primer:
Gang activity is heavy at the intersection your business is located on.
New businesses have a poor track record on Morse Avenue. Restaurants come and go quickly.
Advice: Take the loose bags of coffee off of the front counter - put them behind the counter or your will suffer heavy shoplifting losses.
Put some of those lovely window gratings up so you can secure the place after you close for the night. (What? Joe Moore doesn't like those? Well, Joe Moore doesn't have to worry about his Morse Avenue business being burgled at night.)
Hire a security guard, preferably armed, so you will be able to effectively eject the folks who come in and ask for free cups of water, use your washroom to bath themselves, and annoy paying customers with requests for spare change and "extra" cigarettes.
Have a ready supply of single-sided razor blades. You'll need these to remove gang symbols on stickers that are applied to your windows.
Welcome to Morse Avenue.
Nice. Way to support a local business.
ReplyDeleteNothing will help deter the problems more than positive loitering. Respectable people hanging out there will deter troublemakers I think.
ReplyDeleteJocelyn - I certainly agree with you.
ReplyDeleterpnaybor - I do support them. I was there at 6:05 a.m. today and spent $4.50. Were YOU there? While you're talking the talk, I'm walking the walk.
