Subject: Hello from David Herro
Mr. Mannis,
I am just a concerned citizen who desires clean, independent, community spirited politicians.
I am also an economist by training who holds strong beliefs about faulty policy hurting those trying to elevate themselves. It is why "Big Box" is so upsetting to me. I also have libertarian leanings that tell me that government should not dictate what is and is not acceptable to eat. Lastly, I feel Don Gordon is an intelligent, caring person and am proud to support him.
Kind regards,
David Herro

Thank you Mr. Herro. At least you have the courage to speak your mind and unlike Joe Moore hiding behind his brigade of hired socialists spreading the gospel of racism.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the Salem Witch Trials around here. Or the McCarthy hearings. I'm a born and bred Democrat, but the behavior of some of the "Democrats" I've observed gives me pause. Oh, I'd never switch sides, but I know I don't want to be THAT kind of Democrat.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the kind that will stoop to Swift Boat level. The ones that just can't fight fair because they might lose that way. And they deserve to lose and I really really hope they do!
Last week I responded to some angry, saber-rattling comments from a resident who shared her concern about Mr. Herro. She posted them to a popular local listserve, on ProgressiveRogersPark@yahoogroups.com. I wrote:
ReplyDelete"Hmm. Nan calls David Herro a 'big republican contributor.' Is that because she thinks he only supports candidates who are not on her or our side of the political aisle? During the years I served as a member of the IVI-IPO State Board of Directors we thought of people like Herro as “Independents” and we didn’t waste time labeling or putting them down. We appreciated that they found qualities and supported merit regardless of political identification.
The Illinois State Board of Elections web site clearly shows that Herro also has made major contributions to staunch Democrats, including Barack Obama, Forrest Claypool, Edwin Eisendrath, Lisa Madigan, Jesse White, and Tom Tunney. The list of Democrats goes on and includes our 49th ward’s real independent Democrat Don Gordon, who has pledged to accept no political donations once he is elected as 49th Ward Alderman.
The polarizing notions of 'us versus them' and the 'you’re either with us or against us' do none of us any good."
That was what I thought last week. There's a great deal of anger in our community. It continues to grow, certainly some of it fueled by the current alderman's policies and win-at-all-costs campaign tactics.
After the April 17 election I really hope lots of us will sit down and work together to tackle problem issues in our community, and not each other.

"we thought of people like Herro as “Independents” "
ReplyDeleteNot that it is the biggest campaign issue, but don't believe for a second that Herro is "independant".
According to the Federal Election Commision website on campaign contributions from David Herro, his money has gone to Republicans 7 to 1 over Democrats (through 2006). I hardly consider that independant.
What is Gordon's living wage proposal? The same one Walmart currently employs.
On the other hand I can't stand the developers around here or the abundance of development.
Only got a couple of hours to figure this one out, but probably go with Moore based on his voiced positions on issues I care about.
