FLASH UPDATE: GORDON "OPTIONS AVAILABLE"

At appproximately 2:45 pm today, "an unscheduled news briefing" in which "news media" showed up to interview 49th Ward aldermanic challenger Don Gordon unannounced, Gordon said that he will not challenge only if his team finds no indication of voter fraud. This comes from an extremely reliable source of top caliber. There are many ballots that are of questionable validity at this time. RPB has no comment from the Moore team because, to be blunt, they wouldn't give me the time of day. This story is still developing, and show potential for dragging on through the weekend. BACKGROUND BRIEFING One precinct is not counted - Chicago Board of Election Commissioners is, allegedly, trying to throw out the ballots for the entire precinct, possibly the 25th. According to source, Moore claims it's a precinct that he won, but there is reason to believe it is one in Gordon's column. The Gordon people, RPB is informed, are standing firm. "No concession at this time," they are saying, because it is suspected that there may be "far more than 138 questionable votes." However, some confusion remains. The Election Commissioners now report, as of 2:25 pm today, that all 42 precincts in the 49th Ward have been counted, with Moore ahead by 247. The updated results from the Election Commissioners show Moore with a count of 4,019 (51.59% ) and Gordon with 3,772 (48.41%). The total ballots cast were 7,791, according to the document. (Source: http://www.chicagoelections.com/docs/SummaryReport.pdf) There also remains the open question of alleged illegal early voting electioneering by Moore. Election fraud is federal jurisdiction, not state. In summary: Gordon is seriously considering challenging, and certain aspects of the challenge hold the potential for federal involvement.

  1. Excellent job on keeping us up with everything.

I'm not a ward member (by only a few blocks), but I do find all of the election law portion of this quite interesting.

Does anyone know what the purpose of a "Discovery Recount" is? I know Gordon didn't get the 95% of Moore's votes for this, but it states that "it does not change the results for candidate elections." So what is it for, for fun?

Now he's got to hope the city council or a court will find enough evidence to do a recount or find him the winner.
