Fascism Lite

WARNING: This article assumes that you paid attention in high school and know some basic modern history.

I am NOT saying Joe Moore actually is a fascist, he just has fascist tendencies. He probably doesn't even understand that much of what he does is fascism-lite.

"Whoa, Tom," you may be screaming, "that's an outrageous statement!" Perhaps, but truth is often outrageous. The men seen at left are Stalin ("communist") and Hitler ("fascist"). Were they really very different?

I dare you to read this stuff, dear Open-minded Liberal. Can you handle the Truth?

Not all communists are the Stalin variety, of course. Not all fascists are the Hitler variety, either. There is also the more civilized, non-genocidal versions of fascism and communism, both of which can be found in Italy or France or San Francisco or anywhere else. That includes Chicago’s City Council.

Chicago AlderComrade Joe Moore (“Democrat”) and the Big (“Democrat”) Machine behind him adhere to practices and philosophies that are, in effect, fascist. It is fashionable to call Republicans and conservatives "fascist," even though most people who throw the word around do not understand its real meaning or history. Let's try to shed some light on the subject.

  1. You're leaving out two key aspects of what Fascism was/is -- hyper nationalism and the coporatization of the State. The Republicans and Democrats in modern day USA could be accused quite successfully of advocating the latter, as our government has been completely merged with corporate board rooms.

Both are also increasingly falling back on Nationalist rhetoric when discussing "social" issues arising from the globalized economy.

You should also examine the way the Bush administration has subverted the system of checks and balances that our political system was founded upon in his "war on terror". And this, more than anything the Democrats have done, has in fact put the State above all other concerns, including personal liberty.

I would classify Joe Moore as someone who is very much a laissez faire liberal, rather than a Stalinist, Communist, Fascist or whatever other rhetorical label you'd like to stick him with.

The destruction of our housing stock due to the complete abandonment of our neighborhood to "market forces" is just one example of this. The "nanny state" resolutions such as foie gras were done for political gain, not because of any overriding desire to extend the reach of the State.

Government in simplist terms is suppose to be a mediator between the competing interests of the society it rules. In a capitalist system, those competing interests are almost always the concerns of workers versus those of industry/capital. I'd argue that under the Bush administration, where Corporate executives have been put in charge of every federal agency, and most regulations on business rolled back, our government's role has been perverted and it will take a tremendous amount of effort to return the balance back toward the center.

  2. Must be tough for you being a republican in a place like Chicago, kinda like being Black in Idaho.

  3. Couch Captain: This is the last time you will appear here. But let me answer your typically stupid question. First, I am not a Republican, I am a conservative. And like a black person in Idaho, I look around and see a lot of good people, as well as a lot of ignorant, stupid people who mindlessly follow the dogma they've swallowed. Like you. Thanks. Now go away.
