WE HAVE A CHOICE
From Rick Jones, who organizes the Ravenswood Neighbors Block Club:
"I believe the next step in fighting crime in our neighborhood is to restore the liquor moratorium on Clark Street. It's my understanding that any changes to a moratorium must remain in effect for a one year period. That one year period is up and it is time to restore the moratorium as an issue of public safety.
The current Alderman, Joe Moore, saw to it that the liquor license moratorium on Clark Street between North Shore and Pratt was lifted on February 8, 2006. Joe Moore never bothered to notify anyone in the community. Perhaps the $1000 donation from the liquor store owner had something to do with it.
As far as I know, Joe Moore, is happy with the current arrangement. He seems to believe that liquor licensing is a type of economic development. But what Joe Moore really believes has been difficult to ascertain since he does not return my phone calls nor does he reply to my emails.
This last Friday, I met Jim Ginderske at the Rogers Park Metra Station. He is a candidate for Alderman for the 49th Ward. I asked him point blank if he would restore the liquor moratorium if elected. His response was, "absolutely." Jim said he was fully aware of the problem on Clark Street and would take swift action to put the moratorium back in place. Tomorrow is election day. We have a choice."

I'm with you on so many levels but the liquor store thing is silly. People can just walk a few blocks further and buy booze. It's almost a dodge.
ReplyDeleteThe real question is why certain people feel the need to drink themselves into neighborhood creeps in the first place. Making them walk a few extra block, or worse drive farther won't solve a thing and frankly makes me think your candidate is weak on ideas.
Gotta start somewhere. Gun laws could be called silly too, when you have a guy killing people with a hammer. Are gun control laws "silly?" You can just drive few more miles to buy one...
